  1. Hmm, that's a very good idea, but hey, 5 buks is 5 buks. I do have a 512 set aside for a Ferrari 612P kit bash that's planned as well. But for some reason I wish to do the 712 first.
  2. Be careful around the 2 front fender vents, the vents on either side of the turbo inlet and the vents mid way between the turbo inlet and the tail. Also, the front decals in black are supposed to be white. It fits over the head light and really sux. I'd honestly suggest mask and spraying instead. And scan those decals, they are expensive. I was very upset after partially destroying mine. Might as well scan both the Tamiya and Studio27 versions.
  3. Hi Dave, Yes, Tamiya. I was eye balling the Fujimi but it was way more costly and as old. So I bet its decals would have been in as bad a shape. I've tired 3 different waterslide paper and my favorite is Lazertran due to its satin sheen. Its also the toughest but only comes in clear. But I noticed the clear, when dried, has a white sort of film on it. So the Ferodo/Cibie decal on the rear wheel arch, that's supposed to be clear and it dried white. I mean it was clear when I pulled it out of the water. Same with the Michelin decal on the side skirt.
  4. I've awesome color plans for the Chaparral 2C, should be killerz! The Ferrari 712 is a Volki kit which is for sh$% to the max! Notice the pencil line in the middle? That's were I'm gonna cut her and widen the body as it looks way way off. I'm also gonna shave off about an 1/8" off the bottom, totally horrid body! I'm kit bashing it with a full detail Hasegawa Ferrari 642 which I got for 5 buks! I'm finding myself most happy building when I got several kits in the pipeline. My brain likes this.
  5. I wasn't happy with either of my builds of these so I've been re-working on em. I highly recommend the Fujimi Dino 206 kit, its amazing quality!
  6. Wow, thanks. I'm VERY appreciative as you are, what I consider a master of masters. Thanks again!
  7. Esteemed builders, This project started out fun but ended up a nightmare, only because of the decals. I tried hot water and decal soution but nothing really worked completely for me. It helped but wasn't 100%. For some reason, I threw the original decal sheet in water, I never do this and usually just cut out what I need. A few moments later it was as if Wolverine came by and sliced up my decals! They pretty much disintigrated, even the small ones. Unsure why, but I scanned the sheet before hand, probably because it looked poor to begin with. At any rate, I made a few prints but was unhappy so I bought a set from Studio27. I ruined the big decals going around the curves and vents so I went back to my prints and made them work. I suggest doing a high resolution scan in PNG format of any decal sheet in case you run into problems. Also when printing, use an inkjet due to richer blacks. Only caveat is to let it dry a good loooooong time. There is white and clear waterslide paper. What I found is that clear will not show the print if on a colored backround. Some times white paper is best, other times clear is best. I actually loathed finishing this, but I have to finish what I start. * In the end, I printed out my scans to waterslide paper which was thicker then normal decals. This allowed me to stretch the decal around a bit w/o tearing. It was also less likly to wrinkle like the thinner decals would. All in all I wouldn't recomend this kit or the Tamiya 936/78 (which is also in my stash) having similar body length decals, curves and vents. In fact GPMA did a somewhat unfavorable review of the 936/78 kit. ** This project was an excellent exercise in applying decals. Definately not for the faint hearted. I was not ready for this advanced of an application.
  8. Eh didn't work too well for me. I've cut it in 2 pieces as there are too many curves for me to apply it w/o wrinkles.
  9. Hi all, I'm trying to finish a 1/24 Tamiya Alpine Renault 442B and am stuck at specific decals. Mainly the black body length decals that go around the drivers area and end up the curvy tail. After an hour and many wrinkles, I finally gingerly took off these particular decals and put them back on there original paper. I plan on cutting in a few sections later this week for easier management. How else would you all deal with very long decals when applied to curvy body sections?
  10. Some new aero kit Indy cars would be killer!
  11. Wow, perfection! Love the number of kits used to create this. Very very cool bashing for sure.
  12. You're clearly super advanced as I just got this kit, its a BEAST! Your drive-train/engine looks killer man.
  13. OMG, I just got the entire run of Motor Racing Replica News on CD. Wow, totally worth the purchase price of like $15 bukerooonies. Amazing material.
  14. Yep, looks like I may have found a decent 1/24 Ferrari 712P body. Although I wonder, you know those really old Mattel things that let you duplicate a part using some plastic sheets? What if you were to layer sheets over atop one another until the proper growth is achieved? Could be interesting. Basically using the thickness of subsequent plastic sheets to add more and more scale. Could be cool.
  15. Wow, I see a Flying Dutchman on ThieveBay for $75.
  16. Well, I wouldn't call it a muscle car but the AMT 1/25 Chevrolet Astro 1 concept car seems pretty darn rare and costly too. I've seen this kit fetch $200 used and was prolly a buck brand new.
  17. I had a feeling you'd have done/be doing this. I can see myself doing this, not yet though Thanks to all for the feedback.
  18. Welp, I was thinking to get an Otaki 1/28 Ferrari 712 CanAm and scale it up a bit to 1/25-1/24. I'm only interested in the body as I've extra stuff to do everything else.
  19. Hi, Curious if any one has scaled up a body before. I imagine splicing/grafting some styrene into various body parts but curious if any one has done this successfully.
  20. Well, it always seems to be the one I'm currently building.
  21. Wow! Its an awesome car.
  22. Was afraid of that. Looks like GPMA was right on the money. Thanks very mich for the reply.
  23. That and the 312P; https://www.google.com/search?q=ferrari+312p&tbm=isch&imgil=-bI4C8FUv6S-SM%3A%3B6A0uMo0AuqjwlM%3Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fen.wikipedia.org%252Fwiki%252FFerrari_312_P&source=iu&pf=m&fir=-bI4C8FUv6S-SM%3A%2C6A0uMo0AuqjwlM%2C_&usg=__7ErS3atn99VOIkEISEKWXeTZu64%3D&biw=1440&bih=728&ved=0ahUKEwjB4YWCl5HMAhUU_WMKHSnkAEkQyjcIJg&ei=ZyYRV4GSIZT6jwOpyIPIBA#imgrc=atohgd-RiCYd7M%3A Fisher makes it in 1/24; http://fishermodels.indiemade.com/product/ferrari-312p-berlinetta-124?tid=2 http://fishermodels.indiemade.com/product/ferrari-312p-spyder-1969-124?tid=2
  24. Hi, Wondering if any one can attest to the quality of this kit, in particular the engine bay. I've read a rather poor review on GPMA. Thanks in advance.
