  1. Thank you Bob and Richard! Thank you David! That is awesome! I agree 100% with that door line suggestion. I probably wont try and tackle it at this point, mainly because I am really really bad at scribing lines, and worry it may be the death of this project. I don't know why, I try and practice, read up on everything but i always seem to bugger something up and it looks awful. But yes, the door needs to be a bit bigger from a stylistic point. Hopefully it since the car is going to be painted a darker tone it will be less noticeable, if it was going to be a lighter color i would probably have to do something. Side note... made some exhaust last night... going to make some polished brass hangers in a couple spots. Tonight is fender trim, and taillights... which i had totally forgotten... then primer by the weekend... i hope.
  2. Thank you guys!!!! Radiator and brackets made! I can't say enough about how nice this American racing miniatures engine is... its amazing really... that upper rad pipe is a piece of art. Remade those scoops and added trim everywhere... the fab list is getting pretty short! wooohooo
  3. Thank you all! Your comments and encouragement mean a lot! A little over a month to go... and most of the fab work is done... Radiator, exhaust, interior pedals and trim, and then i should be ready to prime and body work! Yesterday I managed to get the air intake scoops made and stuck on the sides of the cowl. Started with some Starbucks stir-sticks. Glued together and sanded to shape. Added a styrene flange for easy cleanup Vacform Cleaned up and ready to install Installed! Sadly after all this work... I went back downstairs (after the game) and I must have accidentally puddled some glue in the scoops, and it turned them into raisins... I was using a new syringe to apply the glue inside.... couldn't tell how much i applied.... Luckily I have the pattern and can knock some new ones out tonight.... minor set back... no biggie.
  4. I made some progress on the header/and midpipe tonight. I'm really happy with how it turned out. First I used the extra intake manifold in the resin motor kit to make sure I got the port spacing correct got it all bent up and made some flanges out of .010 then the dual midpipe that runs back into the chassis plate.
  5. hey tom! there are a few sellers on eBay that have his decals, but i order directly from his website. I let PayPal handle the conversion, the shipping took a little over 2 weeks.. my order with shipping was 22.00 euro.. and that equaled 24.00ish US.
  6. Thank you guys! Got the intercooler cleaned up and mounted last night, as well as modifying the firewall for the supercharger... I've never really worked with white metal parts before, it was pretty fun... hopefully when i get it painted and washed its cleaner than it appears now. I also added some piping/welt to the seat for a little extra detail. Exhaust is tonight... I hope.
  7. hahaha.. agreed! Thanks Mike! Actually they are half sheets so like 5" x 8.5"
  8. Thank you all for the comments and compliments! Also if anyone has bought the headlights thank you! Around 6 sets have sold, it will be cool to see them on other projects! Here is an update, finally! This past week I didn't do much at all, so im trying to fast track this week to get caught back up. Last night was dash, programed and cut... layered with .010 and .020 styrene.. its a bit rough, but it should clean up okay. basic design drawn in illustrator: cut and assembled Next was adding the wood trim to the top of the door panels. And then the exciting part... Uschi van der Rosten wood decals from germany, these are amazing.. I purchased both the 1/43 scale HO-229 set and the Truckers Delight Burl set. Get them here:https://www.uschivdr.com/ At first glance they look unbelievable, hopefully they apply as nice as they look: Planing on using these woodgrain decals on the dash, door tops, floor (attempting an inlay look by layering decals) and the trunk on the back. these are the 2 that are calling to me at the moment, but ill know more after i do a sprayout of the color.
  9. Sorry Eric your question got lost there... I have some deep non-metallic maroon/burgundy base-coat i had mixed up, the interior will be a tan with two-tone burl wood accents. Should look somewhat period correct.. i hope
  10. They are just flat lenses... I was thinking about cutting them out of some .015 clear sheet i have, maybe a couple thicknesses to get the depth. I have even thought about adjusting the blade depth on my cutter, and scoring a pattern into the clear sheet before cutting the outside shape... but your epoxy idea is a good one as well. I just haven't got to that part yet.. haha Thank you! A local guy had them on a Hollywood Graham street rod... once I saw them i had to use them on something.
  11. FAB Carbs straight out of the pack With some alclad and deail painting They are pretty nice... but after seeing the fireball carbs, the fireball products are unbelievable
  12. and the winner... some great build photos in this link as well. http://www.hotrod.com/articles/2017-grand-national-roadster-show-americas-beautiful-roadster-is1936-packard-hollywood-hot-rods/
  13. sorry tom, but no lenses are included at this time... yeah, i predict at least one more sand and prime from the bottom photo before they are ready for some alclad.
  14. Hey Tom! Sorry, I got some sort of nasty cold that has sidelined me for over a week here, anyway... First off cost wise... 9.00 or 11.00 for a set.. plus shipping... 9.00 is Ultra detail and 11.00 Extreme detail (my photos show the extreme detail option) I know that's a bit pricey but...Full disclosure... shapeways sets the pricing on their parts and the shop owner can add markup... I have less than a dollar of markup added to these parts. Here is the purchase link: http://shpws.me/NE9J As long as i don't lose or ruin one in trying to finish this project, I will have an extra set with me at Toledo for you to see in person. The first picture i posted is straight out of the bag from shapeways: They have some rough texture to them, and they have a molded in joiner block on the bottom. I was able to cut that off with a pullback saw, and then drill the mounting post for a pin. It was at this point i decided to just shoot them with primer.. since the frosted material is hard to see the texture. this is just primer and no sanding After letting the primer dry I sanded them with some 400grit paper, and then reapplied primer. This photo shows where they are now.... i'm predicting one more light sand and prime and they will be ready for alclad.
  15. Made these and put them up on shape-ways if anyone is looking for them. I used the 1926 patent drawing as an underlay so the shape is pretty close. The bottom of the light comes to more of a point than the original. But the lense and overall shape is pretty close. https://www.shapeways.com/product/D88VAJFSF/woodlight-inspired-headlights-1-24-1-25-scale?optionId=61690608&li=shop-inventory Straight out of the box from shapeways (these are the "extreme detail" 11.00 option, note:the 9.00 option may need more sanding and primer) No sanding... just primer light sanding and more primer... and mounted
  16. Got to see these at a recent club meeting.... blown away with the detail.. I will be ordering some soon.
  17. next up headlights and mounts Made these the "old-fashioned" way just drawn and hand cut on .020 then stuck some 1/8" circles from my hole punch top and bottom Then sanded to nice shape, drilled pinned and installed Headlight got a light sanding and then another coat of primer... almost ready for paint Some minor frewall work and trim to add... but im getting close to primer... and that makes me happy
  18. thank you guys! I made a little progress over the past few days and thought i would share. Turned some rear axle mounts on the lathe installed the rear axle then a made another one and got the rear freestanding then over to the front...Same deal... turned an adapter and used the the 29 kit axle. then another one Finally a freestanding Model A Streamliner...(well kinda, the back of the front fenders wanted to kick in, so theres a little block for now, until i epoxy it finally)
  19. Shapeways prints showed up! wayyyyyyyyy better than I expected... Im totally stoked and can see this as a huge opportunity to be more creative on future projects. Straight out of the box. Removed from the block, drilled for pins, and one coat of upol primer. Here is the link to the shapeways store http://shpws.me/NepY these examples were done in the "extreme detail frosted acrylic", they are also printable in the "Ultra Detail Frosted Plastic which is about 2.00 less expensive and now has a 3 day turnaround time. (in hindsight i should have made a set of each in each material to see the differences, oh well, maybe the on next part)
  20. thanks for your comments and compliments everyone!!! i'm using the Silhouette Portrait cutter, mainly because its small and was pretty "inexpensive" used on ebay (less than 80.00 shipped) Really any of the newer scrapbook cutters that hook up to a computer and allow you to import .dxf files seem to work. Check this thread for more info. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/119212-circut-or-other-scrapbooking-tools/
  21. Thank you guys! Thanks ted that is a good idea...for some reason i want to try and keep these freestanding fender pods... But that is a great plan B if i cant get the alignment and support correct on the freestanding pods. Last night was the NCAM meeting, Andy and I took our WIP projects to show off to the club and for an excellent photo opportunity. Hard to believe these started as the same "kit".. hahahah Then on the way home my dad and I stopped for dinner... we were discussing how to mount the fenders.. and getting all the alignment correct. I was expressing my regret in not putting an axle center "boss" or something in the 3d print before vac forming. Since the fenders are an organic shape, they are going to be hard to drill all the same point for the axle. My dad said to make a jig, and a few quick napkin sketches later, we had it figured out. When i got home i had to try it, busted out some scrap styrene and it worked perfect. I know its just four holes, but i had been fretting over this. Those holes determine the ride height, as well as the fore-aft position of the fenders all of which would bother me if not close to perfect. Fender Drill Jig Fender in jig. Drill... Repeat x3 (making sure i had 2 lefts and 2 rights) Next up is to make some adapters on the lathe to attach those screws to the front and rear axle.... feeling a bit better about this.
  22. Thanks Phil and Jim!! hahaha.....Listen you guys there is no quitting... I need to be pushed to finish this thing by mid march. On a good note my shapeways order is has passed all the pre-checks and is in process of printing. wooohoooo
  23. beautiful work... and excellent photography on top of it... pleasure to watch.
