"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
lghtngyello03 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This one has been put in the shelf since 2016, and I can’t believe it’s been that long. After just finishing my Pennzoil Skyline build, I want to finish this one for an upcoming show. Hope I can get it done by the 18th. progress will be over in the pickups On the workbench page -
Well, I didn’t realize it has been this long since I put this one on the back burner lol. I just finished a super detailed Skyline build and wanted to try to finish this one up before an upcoming show on the 18th. There’s not much left to be finished. I had to build a smooth firewall and I have to repaint the hood and engine cover, as well as make a floor pan. But here is a quick fit of everything as it sits now.

Thank you sir. You won’t regret it when you do. You’ll wonder why you haven’t yet, lol. Very little to no flash and all the details are super crisp

Thank you guys!

Thank you both. You guys are right. This is a little known model, as well as now a rare kit. If you can find one on eBay the prices are ridiculously high. Was super nervous about something happening on this kit that would ruin it.

Amazing work! Photos are top notch too. May have to pick up this kit myself.

Amazing builds! What's the secret to your perfect Bare Metal Foil work???

Finally I can call this one finished! I’m super pleased with the results of this build, and the 3 month process was totally worth it. Nothing was overly complicated and it all went together like any Tamiya kit ever made. Lots of detail went into this build. Many, many, countless hours of self made carbon fiber decals on the interior, exterior, and underbody were completed to make the details possible. This was a kit that I had in my stash for many years and was kind of afraid of messing it up and not building it the way it should be built. The body was primed in Tamiya White primer, then sprayed with Zero Paints Pennzoil Skyline Pearl Yellow, with Splash Paints Beluga Black on the bottom, and finally topped off with Splash Paints 2k Clear coat after all decals were laid down. The decals were a new production from Shunko and are awesome to work with and take the 2k clear very well. The chassis/interior was sprayed with decanted Tamiya Bare Metal Silver, and all other parts are various Tamiya Acrylics. The carbon fiber decals used are Tamiya Fine Weave Carbon Fiber, and Scale Motorsports Carbon Kevlar Basketweave. All of the interior wiring/plumbing was self made with various colors of wires. The racing harness is a Eduard PhotoEtch piece and adds lots of detail to a build, and not that complicated to put together. The wheels were sprayed with Splash Paints Beluga Black, decaled, then topped with Splash Paints 2k Clear as well. The tires were weathered using a drill and some 800 grit sandpaper. Thanks for looking. Now, on to the next build!

Managed to get the tires labeled and installed on the car tonight. I Also got the tow hook installed too. The spoiler is just placed on the deck lid for a teaser. -

After a lot of work, this is getting closer and closer to finished. I got the chassis completed, all of the windows painted and installed, all of the panel lines done, the tail lights painted and installed, the fuel filler detailed and mounted, made the exhaust heat shield out of bmf then I mounted in the body. I had to use a rubber band to hold the front diffuser on while the glue dried. I also got the wheels/tires decaled as well. I’m going to see if I can pick up an extra fine tip yellow paint pen this evening to make some markings on them as well. The tires were sanded using a drill and some 800grit sandpaper. I will only include a couple of pics of the interior as I went ahead and snapped them to put in the under glass post when it’s completed. -
Thank you!

With the amount of detail in both of these I can see why you only completed 2. These could pass for real cars for sure. Great, clean, awesome builds and super paint jobs.

Thank you sir. Tamiya makes a good race car for sure
-
Super clean build.

Still looks great though? I’ve got this same kit with some scalefinishes velocity yellow paint to go with it

Thank you !

Thank you Mike. Good to hear from you. And I will definitely be there with these 3, and a couple of builds from last year that I entered as well. Hoping to get my Pennzoil Skyline completed when we get back after New Years. I had planned on getting 4 built but the Pennzoil car has taken way long than I expected, trying to make it super detailed. I hope to place with something that I enter anyway lol.
