  1. Didn't know that...but, seeing how I got awesome results in waiting 2 days after shooting the clear I'll stick to that method from now on. I didn't really have to as it was really smooth, but some areas had some orange peel, so I went ahead and sanded the whole body with 2000 grit and polished it accordingly.
  2. Thanks! Not bad for my first real airbrush paint job right? Thanks man! Just a mini version of a 1:1...I detail cars and have used a large combo of rotary and DA polishers on them...had to bust out the Adam's machine polish because the Meguiar's wasn't taking out all of the fine scratches from sanding. Made 1 pass over the passenger door and my light scratches were gone, where Meguiar's ultimate didn't take it out after numerous passes. Guess that is what a better product will do for you. Thanks a lot! Love Scalefinishes paint now! Hated to have to let so much 2k clear go to waste but next time I'll shoot all my projects at once to avoid this.
  3. Well, here are my results from using 2000 grit, and Meguiar's Scratch X coupled with a polishing cloth on my Dremel. Still have to use Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and a Glaze from Adam's Polishes. This ONLY has Scratch X applied, and the shine is awesome!
  4. So I got the body wet sanded and polished with Meguiar's Scratch X yesterday. Still have to go over it with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and a good Glaze from Adam's Polishes. Used a cotton polishing wheel on my dremel for the ultimate shine and couldn't be more pleased! I'll let the pictures do the talking.
  5. I let my Tamiya stuff sit for a week before handling...this is a lot different I guess? This is straight from Scalefinishes website, scroll all the way to the bottom for the clearcoat application guides. "2013 CLEARCOAT Scalefinishes clearcoat is an automotive grade high gloss Acrylic enamel. If further thinning is required, Thin with Scalefinishes Enamel reducer. Air pressures will vary with different airbrushes, painting styles and temperature. I recommend around 20PSI as a starting point. APPLICATION 1. Apply in a continuous medium coat, until the paint has built up enough to be glossy (3-4 layers). 2. Can be handled safely after 24 hours. BUFFING If necessary, wet sand with 1500 or finer grit paper after 24 hours and polish. Buff with the appropriate compound after 48 hours. Buffing is easiest when done within the first 72 hours following application."
  6. Thanks Ed, I shot him an email before I posted this thread up. May be a while before I hear from him. I'm trying to catch this on the 72 hr window to polish as the clear will probably be a pain to polish after that mark due to hardening even more.
  7. Love the rallies on this car. I have a 67 coupe that is calling me in my stash.
  8. Hey guys, I couldn't really find what I was looking for when I searched for this. I'm a first time ScaleFinishes user, and their paint/clear is awesome! I sprayed my first body without an issue. My 2k clear has leveled out every nicely, but still needs very minimal polishing. My question for you ScaleFinishes users is, what compounds/polishes seem to work the best with the 2k clear? Do you recommend wet sanding with 2000 grit and finer, then using something like Meguiar's Scratch X and a Carnuba? My orange peel is very minimal, and with TS clear I never had to wet sand. I know that Tamiya compounds/polishes work awesome with the TS-13 combo however. Also can someone point me in the direction of where to find a polishing wheel such as the one in this video to use with my dremel..... Any tips are appreciated, and here is a pic of the freshly painted/cleared MK4 Supra.
  9. Thanks guys! I couldn't be more happy with the quality of the paint job on this car.
  10. Not yet, that will be a battle within itself, I'm sure, lol.
  11. Looking awesome man! What did you use for the cloth interior? I need to steal the idea for an under the hood mat for my Supra build.
  12. Finally an update, lol. I haven't done anything on the Supra in a while due to some other things that took priority at home.....then all last week having the Flu. Finally feeling better Saturday night and Sunday I got some work done. Here is a final pic of the seats fixed with styrene sheets, some rod for the hole up top, and some putty to make it look good. Interior is painted and flocked. Not much detail to the dash....I really want some gauge pods. Anyone know where I can get some for 1/24 scale? Here is the paint from ScaleFinishes. This stuff went down so easy, I wonder why I haven't used an airbrush until now! What is everyone using to polish the ScaleFinishes clear with? It went on amazingly, but I want it to be even slicker. I also made a catch can, still have to paint the styrene to simulate the airfilter, and the beads for the A/N fittings.
  13. Thanks man, didn't think of searching for trunk, lol. I was searching seats. I've got some Tamiya Putty, but I've had a lot of issues with ghosting with it. So I have to go over it with a thin layer of Super Glue to remedy that.
  14. Thanks, Everything that I saw online was only a front shot of the seat, and I did see that small gap between the seat and headrest in the 1:1. I'll do my best at filling that thing on the backside. Guess I'll try some more styrene sheet, or maybe a piece of styrene rod laid in there and file it to shape.
  15. Awesome build with a rare color combo too! I have one of these in my stash. I haven't decided if I want to do Daytona Yellow or Lemans Blue yet.
  16. The Alclad looks awesome! What did you use for your basecoat, black ?
  17. Didn't really have much time last night to work on a lot, but this is what I did get done. For some unknown reason, Tamiya chose to leave the backs of the seats unfinished....which looks horrible. I took some 0.1mm Styrene sheet and glued it to the back of the seat, then trimmed it to shape with my Exacto knife, then took some 800grit and my file and finished it down to look smooth. I can't find pics to be positive if that giant hole in the top is supposed to be there or not? I also got the exhaust manifold glued on and my wastegate painted and put on as well. I chose to go with the Tamiya valve cover due to the detail and the radiator hose being located in the correct location already. So I took the A/N fittings that came with the Model Meister kit and put them on there for a catch can setup. These things were a pain! They are so delicate.
  18. Thanks man! Yea the Supras are definitely wicked cars. Thanks! Thanks, I may try something different on my next run with it. Looks a little dark for my taste. Thanks, I may try something different on my next run with it. Looks a little dark for my taste. Thanks man! I am super excited to get the Scalefinishes Royal Sapphire Pearl in and get some color laid down.
  19. Awesome build! I have the same kit, but I painted it with Tamiya Mica Blue. I have since discovered Scalefinishes, and ordered some Royal Sapphire Pearl blue for my Supra build currently. The paint and clear looks awesome! Does it lay down as smooth as it is here, or did this require some polishing to get here? I'm planning on buying a lot of their paint if I spray the Supra and get good results. So any input on the quality/spray characteristics of their paint will be appreciated.
  20. I got all of my parts that will be Chrome painted last night using Alclad II Chrome. This is my first time using it through my airbrush, and set on 12psi, this stuff is amazing. After the wheels and front mount intercooler were dry, I applied a black wash to the lug nuts, rivets, and the fins on the intercooler to make the details stand out.
  21. Man, that is a sick setup. A Lot of guys harsh on imports, but if they make awesome power and run with v8's...they deserve respect in my opinion. That's why I love my Evo 8. 500hp on stock block with basic bolt ons/turbo upgrade and E85. Step up my turbo again, and build a solid bottom end, be in the 750-800 awhp range......all that from a 2.0L.
  22. Little progress made last night. I got all of my parts that are going to be Alclad Chrome sprayed with the Gloss Black base coat. The black is Tamiya Acrylic Gloss Black shot through my airbrush. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The paint laid down as smooth as glass. So this should be a great base coat for the Alclad shot through the airbrush as well. The engine block received it's gloss black as well. I also took the time to scratch build an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Having never done this before, I feel I did a pretty decent job, lol. Attached is a pic of where I will mount it as well.
  23. I got them frm Steve Zimmerman. They're called Daggers.
  24. Thanks, that's the same needle setup I sprayed the Cameo with. I have noticed that with that size needle, the metallic Tamiya acrylics tend to want to be thinner when spraying than just a solid color.
