Thanks again. This forum has to be the best for everyone helping out! You go onto the actual car forums, people don't help at all, lol. What needle size seems to work the best with their paints? I'm using a Paasche Talon, and a Paasche D3000R compressor. I've sprayed Tamiya Acrylics at 25-30 psi. The first body I painted was with Clear orange over Metallic Silver, and it took a lot of coats to get the desired color. I used the entire bottle of Clear Orange. Here is my first airbrushed body using clear orange.

Thanks Mike. I messaged Gravity Colors on Facebook, got a response right away. They can mix the color, but it will be May or later before they get it done. They have put in a order for paints that will come in May. He did say that he would put the 8L5 Royal Sapphire Pearl in to be available in the future.

So, after cruising scale finishes website, I see that he is the only place that has the 8L5 Royal Sapphire Pearl color available. I bought a 2oz bottle of color, and the 1oz set of the 2k clear. Having never sprayed anything through my airbrush other than some acrylic Tamiya paints that were thinned 2:1 by me, are the scale finishes color and clear coats easy to shoot? Will the 2oz color and 1 oz clear be enough to cover my 1/24 Tamiya Supra? What air pressure do you guys recommend to shoot with for this paint?

Tamiya MK IV Supra Single Turbo - UNDER GLASS 8-27-16
lghtngyello03 replied to lghtngyello03's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So over the weekend I got a good bit done on the Supra. I managed to get my suspension/brakes modified to fit the CCW's, got all of my panel lines scribed, sanded off the ridiculous looking side marker lights, mold lines sanded down, mirrors and wing pinned (first time doing by the way, and I love it!) and the body primed and sanded down with 1000 grit for color. I also pre-drilled some holes on the chassis/gas tank for some fuel lines. This is my first time ever running lines like this, I've included 2 pics of it, the first was with 26ga plain wire, and the second was with 24ga twisted wire. I want the steel braided line look, so I ran across the twisted wire at Michael's Saturday. Plan is to run fuel lines and build an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and mount it to the firewall. Anyone that may have any tips on that, it would be much appreciated. On to the pictures. Here is the final ride height, wheels are pinned into spindles and rear suspension with modified brake rotors/rotor hats to fix wheel offset. Mirrors and wing pinned Body primed and sanded, still have to wash it off pay no attention to dust, lol. First shot of mock up with pre-drilled holes for fuel lines/line wire ties ran with flat wire Twisted wire to replicate stainless steel braided Engine shot minus turbo setup for the heck of it. -
Tamiya MK IV Supra Single Turbo - UNDER GLASS 8-27-16

Thanks a lot guys. I love imports, but this one is probably one of my favorites due to the gobs of power they can make. -
So, I've just got my new airbrush and want to paint my current MK 4 Supra the correct Royal Sapphire Blue Pearl. I think I may use the Tamiya TS51 Racing Blue, but I'd love for the color to be a dead match to Toyota's color. My question is, has anyone ever used the 2oz. liquid touchup from automotivetouchup.com to spray through their airbrush? Here is a link to what I'm looking at. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/store/2oz_touch-up_paints/2_oz_basecoat.aspx If you guys have used any of this, how much did you thin it and with what....also what clear coat have used with it?

Got the flash on the wheels cleaned up and then glued them together. Made the fronts with a different offset from the rear to give it the proper look of a Supra. Front Wheel is actually pinned to the hub of the car, so that is actual ride height, I may lower it some once I get all of the other brake rotors/hubs modified. Rear wheel isn't pinned to anything yet. -
Thanks man! I didn't think it was that good, lol. This is my first build like this. That means a lot to hear that. Are you talking about the lines at the tops of the head rests? If so, those aren't mold lines, they are supposed to be aluminum or body color hoops. Kind of like a hoop behind the seat of an SLK 230. I haven't BMF'd them yet, I actually forgot, lol. So that will be in order before I put this project on hold, lol. Here is a pic of some actual SSR seats for reference.

I needed a break from my 55 Cameo Pro Touring build, as it was about to drive me crazy (first truck build and man those beds are a PITA, lol.) So, I started my next project, a Tamiya MK IV Supra. I managed to get some awesome CCW Classics from eightyone81.com, a resin engine with a huge single turbo setup from Model Meister, and a resin TRD wing off of Ebay. Plans are to lower the car on the CCW's, single turbo setup, possibly a scratch built 4" exhaust, huge FMIC, try my hand at possibly doing some wiring for the first time under the hood. Paint will be Tamiya TS-51 Racing Blue over top of TS-76 Mica Silver for some added pop. I found an inspiration car for the build, and the pic will be included as well, minus the hood scoop. Hopefully this one will go smoother than the truck has gone. I did manage to get all the flash cleaned up off of the Model Meister engine and components, as well as a mock up assembly. Also got the rims cut to correct width, and pins set for mounting on a Tamiya kit. Here is the stance I'm shooting for. I had to use the rear tires that came with the kit to get a good beefy rear tire on the car, instead of using all 4 tires that came from eightyone81.com. Here is the Tamiya TS-51 Racing Blue over top of the TS-76 Mica Silver Lastly, here is the car I'm using for my inspiration, not digging the hood scoop, so I'm not going to add it to mine.

Here's a little update. Got the window gaskets painted, the dash detailed, the engine cover painted but still have to detail the letters, the air box/intake tube fitted correctly, and radiator hoses fitted. Also got the bed assembled and the BMF on the bed trim. Last truck build for a while, lol that bed was a PITA to put together. Pay no attention to the battery on the firewall....since this pic I have cut the box off and am in the process of shaving the firewall and repainting it.

Awesome build. I built one of these kits about 8 years ago. No fitment problems. I have just started to find out about the Hobby Design Detail Up sets and engine detail kits. I really want to do another one with these full engine detail and maybe voltex kit. Gonna look great when you finish! Here's the F20 engine kit comes with everything to make it...not too much scratch building to do.

Love that custom color. Great build by the way. Lost my Mom to breast cancer, and her name was Cindy as well so the tag did it for me.- 12 replies
