  1. Or this... ...I want to cry a little when I see these. They could do the same thing with a much less desireable car and maybe even have it end up turning out cooler...
  2. And of course, there is this...
  3. These were a thing back in the day. Credit MPC for having their finger on the pulse of Motorsport back then...
  4. In my mind , the "good" ones are the versions with the correct dashboard and chassis . ?????!
  5. It would be nice if they also found some of the older issues' optional parts along the way: the Baja racer stuff from the '73, and / or the Police car stuff from the '74...
  6. The problem is: you want the good ones! It certainly wouldn't hurt Round 2 if they took the beautiful box art from the tin edition, repurposed it for a regular box, and put a new one out, along with the same (comprehensive) decals, correct chassis plate and dash. They recently reissued the '70 Super Bee again in a nice, yet different box, that seems to be working for them.
  7. Buddy, I don't disagree with you on any of these points about the Monogram Satellite tool. You and I seem to really think alike, and like the same things! I just think it's unlikely that anybody short of Moebius will invest in an all new '71-'72 Plymouth tool, since Round 2 and Revell have other "adequate" tools to use. To me, the shortcomings in the Monogram tool are easier to address than those in the MPC tool (mostly the chassis and engine room- which really necessitates a total replace with the AMT '71 Charger stuff). Also- those MPC's have a spindly, easily warped body- I see many of these with wavy, droopy & twisted roofs, in unfixable ways, especially around the windshield. I still wouldn't mind having it back, though. When AMT tooled up the new '71 Charger around 20 years ago, that was when I held out hope that maybe we would see a '71 Plymouth variant. That was back when they did new tools of old cars, and the '71 Charger is a really good one. That moment was missed long ago, unfortunately- Round 2 hasn't developed a new tool for an old car ever, in my recollection. About the only thing they will tool up from the ground up now seems to be either new subjects (Camaro, Corvette, Challenger), or licensed spaceship models.
  8. Funny though- if you look at the underside of the "flat" hood in those Petty kits, it's obviously the twin scoop hood that was seen in the MPC '71 GTX and '72 Road Runner, you can see the outlines of the scoops on the Petty hood.
  9. This would be more Revell's wheelhouse. I doubt that they would seriously consider this though, as they already have their '71 GTX in 1/24- and that one is pretty decent. I wouldn't mind if they gave that kit the "Special Edition" treatment- at a minimum, tooling up '72 rear bumper and grille for it. My belief is that Round 2 still has the tooling for the '71- and it probably is a case of having to swap around the inserts for the right chassis and dash. The MPC '71 would be an excellent subject to get the new Round 2 treatment. The '87 issue actually had a very comprehensive stock decal set (stock stripes in black and white sets).
  10. I took some pics, but for some reason they won't upload. I'll try again tonight...
  11. Me. What do you want to see or know about? Let me know and I'll photograph/ post within the next few days. It's a nice one- screaming chickens in 3 colors!
  12. & the green 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona that showed recall wheels and an enhanced Hemi on the box, but only came with the same-old-same-old in the box... ...my understanding is that what happened with these was: they were produced just like every run before, and the contents did not change from prior issues, but RC2 accepted builds for the box art photos that in some cases were not box stock. Normally, when the model companies commission or borrow box art builds, they will rightly insist that they are built completely box stock. While many of the builds for these boxes were actually very well executed and attractive, many of these builds were NOT box stock. I think this only happened with these kits with the issues from this era (early 2000's, perhaps?). Even though that '74 Road Runner did not come with stock graphics for decals or Cragar mags as shown on the box, I was still psyched to see it released again, and it was at least done in gray plastic, instead of that awful MPC orange.
  13. Boxes are usually not too hard to find, as kits often get built. An AMT box for a Trans Am Javelin - tougher for sure. Nice kit to have either way!
  14. Nice! You do know that you can get the correct grille inserts from any General Lee kit...
  15. ? Trans-Am's have been done!!!
  16. Correct- I think it was the AMT 1970 Mustang Mach Won Funny car. By the time the hauler came out, I think the Pettys had moved on from Ford. Searching online, it looks like the Petty team used a cabover Ford Transporter truck during the Torino Era. & no complaints from me- the hauler is a really cool kit. The Petty set used to bring big bucks, at least until both kits were reissued, so I'm sure there will be a few collectors who either be very happy to see it reissued, or very unhappy to see it reissued...
