  1. LOL !! In a weekend I *might* get the engine block halves glued together .. and maybe the oil pan. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that is nervous about finishing one in 6 months ;-)
  2. LOL !!! If I finish mine I'd consider it a HUGE win.
  3. We should have a separate pool on how many of the 23 will be finished !!
  4. I have to say... next to the IH Transtar II Eagle cabover, the Freightshaker cabover is my next favorite of all time.
  5. I'd also love to see the under hood photos and the under side of the chassis photos.. interior photos would be nice too ! Looks super !
  6. Holy cow !!!! that would be like 6 years for me to finish all of that !!!!
  7. On the Randy Ayers NASCAR forum, I did learn that NASCAR required steel dry sump pans. This was news to me -- I had [incorrectly] assumed they may be aluminum. Apparently that's why most were either bare stainless steel or painted black -- which matches my favorite Dale picture (attached). The ones that are a gold color -- I'm not sure about .. anodized steel ? The other pic attached is of an engine from the #27 1981 Valvoline Buick (note the gold dry sump pan).
  8. They don't happen to make a grain trailer kit, do they ??
  9. Yeah -- but when I placed the order it said something like "allow 4 weeks" ... we'll see.
  10. Thanks -- it does answer one other question -- they actually did run chrome valve covers.
  11. Mike's Decals often has "donor kits" as well as shrink wrapped kits. mikesdecals.com Great service and reasonable prices.
  12. RE: "Have you hooshcowed a compressor from someplace ?" No, not yet -- I'm waiting for the Kalmbach order to show up.
  13. Hi all: I've built mainly '80's Chevy and Buicks up to now. Can someone give me a link to any 1:1 photos of these '87 - '88 Ford NASCAR engines ? I'm looking for paint colors. I know the blocks in the early '80's were rarely painted -- just bare cast iron. I'm guessing the heads by '87 were aluminum. And the part that I've drawn a box around in the photo ? I'm guessing that's the dry sump pan ? Color ? Any actual photos would be appreciated ! Thanks
  14. Finish... that's my main goal this time !!! As it stands, I'm travelling for work for 3 weeks between the first of Feb. and the first week of March. I'll have to make an effort to find some bench time in Feb. !
  15. LOL... the kit instructions really missed the boat. It appears someone may have gotten a little carried away with the "copy-and-paste" feature. The kit instructions show the roll cage and interior to be painted blue !!!
  16. On another forum, somebody said the interior was black for the 1986 Daytona race.
  17. So... what about using the Humbrol acrylic thinner with Model Master acrylic paints ??? Or ... is this a case of "keep your GM car all GM" ?
  18. I was looking for some paint on the Hobby Lobby site tonight, and I found it interesting that they had this description for the Iwata HP-CS Eclipse airbrush with a .35 needle: This HP-CS Eclispe Airbrush kit has a multi-purpose, high-paint-flow, high-detail Eclipse Series airbrush that covers a wide range of uses. It is commonly used to spray premixed or heavier paints and it is well suited for uses demanding precise control of spray when applying moderate to large amounts of paint to a variety of surfaces and to various sized areas. The gravity feed airbrush features a unique 0.35 millimeter needle and nozzle combination for fine detail spraying, but with high paint flow capacity. There is a generous 1/3 ounce sized cup that is designed with a new funnel shape, which makes for easy clean up and more efficient paint flow. The Eclipse CS sprays heavier acrylics and Medea Textile Colors, while maintaining high-detail spray characteristics. Also included in the kit are: (I added the bold type)
  19. I've also been really impressed with the results from the Vallejo acrylic paints (brush on) that my local Hobby Lobby is now stocking in the plastic models section of the store. Very nice finish and realistic color for engine blocks (i.e. steel, cast iron, etc.) and other metallic parts. https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Model-Kits/Paint-Brushes/70.864-Natural-Steel-Acrylic-Model-Color/p/108153
  20. Well, while anxiously waiting to start the new Peterbilt rig for the 2019 B.R.B.O., I picked at this one a bit more. Slowly but [painfully] slowly... LOL.
  21. YUP ! That's the stuff !! I LOVE it. It's the ONLY thing I use for parts that need to look like aluminum. Spray it right on bare plastic - no primer needed. Perfect finish every time.
  22. I've got it's successor (the Transtar II Eagle) in my "holy grail stash". LOL - I don't consider myself worthy to break the shrink wrap on it until my skills are appropriate for such a kit. You only get one shot at these :-)
  23. FYI -- I ordered the "basics" kit from Kalmbach (it includes Humbrol acrylic paints and Humbrol acrylic thinner). I'll let you all know how good the "step-by-step" instruction book is from a complete beginner's point of view. It's this kit: https://kalmbachhobbystore.com/product/modelers-tool-box/85043 Dave -- I'll post here what they say about the amount of thinner to paint.
  24. Yeah -- that would have been my guess too. And then I saw this in the JNJ decal set for that car (of course, no guarantee it is correct either).
