  1. Was the Wally-world primer the same brand as the flat black (ColorPlace blue can) ??
  2. Geez... Cany I borrow your eyes and steady hand for the dash in my Freghtliner ??!!!!!
  3. I have to say... that Dupli-Color "chrome" paint isn't bad at all for if you are going for a polished aluminum finish !
  4. Nice lookin' rig ! The brochure paint scheme is really nice.
  5. Hi all: FYI -- I personally want to thank Tom (tbill) for his help. If it were not for his patience (and others like him) I might have given up in frustration. He has provided an incredible amount of assistance and detailed information with my project (after my 23 yr break) and he is to be commended for that. Thank you Tom !
  6. I'm dying to know what was used for the paint masking on the orange stripes. As I said, the paint line is crisp and there is ZERO leakage even over the rivets !! Please let us know what you used ! Thanks
  7. OK ! I'll give this a roll !!! I normally use "Zap" brand CA as I've found it the best out there. I'm guessing you are using something like their medium "CA+" (or "Zap-A-Gap" green label) and not the super thin "ZAP CA" (pink label) ?? Thanks for the help
  8. Yeah -- you are right. I tend to get a little too particular about some of this. Esp. after it's done and "under glass" ... if it looks good from a foot away, it's good enough. While you are working the parts, it looks like a big deal. But... it's the old "forest and trees" thing.
  9. Ahh... you got that past me. Now I see !
  10. Looks darn nice to me !!! Did you cut it and then re-glue and Alclad ? Nice job!
  11. RE: " If it is depressed, use some filler like Squadron or Tamiya and then sand it smooth.". So mine are some very shallow ones on the inside of a frame rail. After I fill with Tamiya White putty and sand smooth, do I necessarily need to cover the puttied areas with primer before spraying the color coat (which will either be flat or semi-gloss black) ? Thanks again
  12. Very true ! And AMT gave us several "opportunities" with that kit ! :-)
  13. Ugh... another thing on the "to-do" list for my current Feightliner COE project. But it sure is a beautiful rig you have !!
  14. Well... some progress, but not as much as I wanted. I got back from Indianapolis on Friday night, then had a commitment yesterday -- and got a little further today. Unfortunately, after my 23-year break, I forgot to restock a few supplies, and couldn't find some of my tools !! So - I'm waiting for the post office to deliver my resupply order ;-) But -- I got some of the engine built, some other assemblies together, chrome stripping, etc. I also got more research in and I hope now I have all of the pitfalls and potholes mapped out for this kit (it's not a short list !). This kit seems to be like a chess game -- you need to think 4 or 5 moves ahead :-) Anyway -- this week will be a trip to Wal-Mart for the frame/chassis paint, the Cummins engine paint, and some primer. I will also get the 2-hole wheels for the drive axles ordered from Double Take Replicas. But here's the bench as I left it tonight: Thanks for everyone's help.
  15. If I might ask another question... which brand/color paint did you use for the Cummins engine block? It looks great. I'm getting ready to paint mine as well. Thanks again for your help.
  16. Hi all: Looking for the best way to remove ejector pin marks in parts like frame rails, etc. (I assume they are "ejector pin" marks -- small circular marks on the inside of the frame rails). Are you typically just sanding down the plastic until you get a smooth surface ? Are you filling them and sanding ? If so, what type of filler are you using ? The marks in my frame rails are not deep, so I'd need something pretty thin. Or just masking off the area of the mark, spraying primer, then sanding that area ?? Many thanks for the help -- I know it's a "newbie" question.
  17. VERY nice !!! What did you use for masking ?? The paint line is crisp and there is ZERO leakage even over the rivets !!
  18. Thanks -- that sounds like a safer route to go... at least for me ! ;-) RE: " in the groove on the offside of the axle " Are you gluing it to the front/back ? or along the top/bottom ? I was also considering dremmeling a small channel along the top and bottom and then gluing in a thin piece of music wire in the slot -- then putty the channel to hide it.
  19. Wow -- some really nice stuff there !! Too bad they are out of stock on the 1/25 front axle kits. I certainly can cut the kit front axle and narrow it, but I'm not sure how guys are drlling and pinning it after cutting it. That's a darn small piece to drill into each end straight and get a pin in there and end up with a straight axle afterward.
  20. Super nice !!! In the earlier pics, where you painted the tractor rear wheels, it looks like you toned down the "high-gloss" of the vinyl tires. Did you spray the tires with something ? Thanks
