  1. HI -- could you share the link to the YouTube video you mentioned ? Thanks!
  2. Thanks -- if you have a link to one there that would be great. I've been through page after page of Freightliner pics on Hanks truck pictures and haven't seen one of these yet -- not many with the cabs tilted up.
  3. OK thx. I use the Tamiya "green cap" (extra thin) cement quite a bit, but I've never been "brave" enough to touch it to a painted surface yet, for fear it would either eat the paint or mark the finish up or leave a "ghost" on the paint. For CA glues, are any of them OK to use for styrene ? Or can some of them attack./craze the plastic ? Great info.
  4. Hi -- sorry maybe I wasn't clear on that point ... "I haven't a clue to bind on a temporary basis parts that have already been painted.". When I referred to gluing painted parts to painted parts, in that case I would want a permanent glue joint (the "tacking" is for test fitting, etc. before painting, etc.). So, the question is regarding permanently gluing painted parts to other painted parts (i.e. gluing on separately painted parts to the already painted frame/suspension) -- permanently. Again, my concern is around scraping thru the paint and primer to get to bare plastic (if that is really necessary? ). Thanks
  5. Awesome. super. Simple white glue. While on the subject of gluing parts -- what about gluing painted parts to other painted surfaces ? i.e. after painting the frame/ chassis assembly gluing on additional parts to it ? I had always considered that a "no-no", but was watching one of Hunter Selby's videos the other day and he apparently does it all the time using Testors liquiid cement and says he has no issues doing it (not issues with parts not staying glued, etc.). I'll have several parts that I'll need to attach after the frame/chassis is painted -- I can't see scraping through the color and primer coats to get to bare plastic and runining the finish in the process. Thanks !
  6. Hi all -- What can you use to "tack" parts together for fitting and then be able to separate them easily for painting ? I'd like to "tack" the grille to the cab for test fitting the cab supports etc., and then remove it for painting. Thanks
  7. Thanks - I spent a couple hours searching without any luck. Anybody know what color these Dynacell boxes were painted ?
  8. Looking for any 1:1 pics of this engine in trucks showing the air cleaner box on top of the rocker covers. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the info. So the airbrush must be an important part of getting that finish ? i.e. otherwise you could have just brushed it on, but I'm assuming spraying thru the airbrush is part of the trick ?
  10. What did you paint the exhaust manifold with ? It looks super !
  11. Thanks for the info ! I'll soon (knock on wood) be getting ready to paint my Freightliner cabover and am already dreading bleeding paint under the masking on that rivet-monster ! LOL. I'll give the Tamiya tape a try ! It looks like it is available in several widths (6mm to 18 mm) -- is there a particular one you prefer to work with ? Jeff
  12. Your paint lines are razor sharp !! wow. What are you using for mask ? Also -- I'm assuming here you painted the entire cab white and then came back and added the red areas over the white ? Thanks!
  13. What color paint did you use for the Cummins ? It looks perfect.
  14. Ok -- newbie question. When you are painting the cab, do you paint the interior first or the exterior first ? My exterior is going to be blue and white, and the interior is tan. So - what order do you typically paint them in ? This is a cabover, so the inside area under the interior tub is going to be semi-gloss black. Thanks in advance for the help.
  15. HI -- Can you give me a web site for those wheels ? (5 holes from Spaulding). Also -- what process do you use for painting the 2-color cab ? Those paint lines look razor sharp even over the rivets !!! Thx!
  16. Yes thanks so much for the photo !!
  17. The dash looks super !! OK... newbie question. What is "craft paint" (i.e. Brand, where to buy it, etc.) ?? And why use it vs. regular Testors or Model Master paints ? Another Newbie question.. re: ",I did the gauge bezels using Testors Chrome Silver (drybrushed)" -- what exactly do you mean by "drybrushed" ? Thanks !!!
  18. What paint/color did you use for the Cummins engine ? Thanks!
  19. That is for sure one of my favorite Freightliners ! I've got an FLD in my stash, but for sure need to add an FLC !!
  20. Very nice !!! Another kit I've had my eye on. What brand/color paint did you use on the Cummins ? Thanks !
  21. Ah-- ok. RE: "cut and sectioned the axle . " Seems to be a common practice on this kit. So you basically cut out a section of the center of the front axle, and then glued the halves back together ? I've seen guys here say they "pin" it when they glue it back together, and others who just glue a strip of styrene to the back of the axle at the seam to strengthen it. Any details or photos you could share would be greatly appreciated as I will need to do this on mine soon. Thanks !
  22. Regarding the painting of the exahust manifold. Thanks, that's over my head ! I'm a newbie in that area. It would be great if someone could do a step by step on this kind of technique here or on YouTube so us newbie's could learn it. Your description sounds like when I ask my Mom for her recipe for something and she just starts rattling off " some of this, a bit of that.. ". Us newbies need step-by-step detail with paint color codes, etc. so we can reproduce something and learn how to do it. But thanks for the reply !!
  23. Hunter Selby had a YouTube video on how to straighten the warped AMT Kenworth frame rails (warped like bananas!). Worked great and was simple. But I couldn't use his "rubber band" method when gluing the frame and cross members because the Freightliner cross members aren't like those on the Kenworth. So I had to set up a kind of "make shift" jig to make sure the frame rails were perpendicular to the cross members when I glued it up. The trick is that you have to glue all of the cross members with both rails all in one shot with this thing. I previously had tried gluing the cross members to one rail, letting it dry, then gluing the other rail to it. Not a good idea on this kit. Thx!
