AMT Kenworth K123 Rear Suspension
Goodwrench3 replied to ss2000's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I was at the ATHS show in Des Moines, IA in May and one thing that struck me was how many of the Kenworths there had the Peterbilt air ride suspension on them. I asked the guys there why this was the case, and they all replied with the same answer -- "the Kenworth 8-bag suspension was expensive and didn't ride nearly as nice as the Peterbilt air ride". Here's a picture of the rear suspension on the "Movin' On" KW: -
I picked one up yesterday at Hobby Lobby -- with the weekly 40% off coupon it was only $16. Can't beat that. I started on it last night -- nice kit. Very little flash, nice molding. Just some light sanding needed on the parts and I never opened the tube of Tamiya putty (which is a joy). Since this is a "just have fun build", I'm not going to worry about that stuff this time. And best of all -- I was having fun and forgot about work for a while :-) I'll spend this afternoon on it and post some progress pics over on the "on the workbench" page. Thanks olsbooks for the idea and prayers to your friends !!! I hope they are doing OK.

Great points. I've been "picking at" a Freightliner cabover build for the past year or so. I'm a slow builder, and always try to get everything "right" because I know I'm not in the same league as most that post their builds here. And when you take that kind of time to build a kit -- well, it's easy to loose interest in it and then it never gets finished. I think that's the attitude I need to get-- don't get all uptight about it and try to turn off the "perfectionist" side of the brain. Like the person you mentioned "doesn't care how they look and after he gets done building it he takes it to the next local swap meet and sells it... He just builds for the fun of building". What a great attitude and what a great way to have fun and burn off some of the stress of life. I've seen guys do a "weekend build". Whatever you can do in 2 days. I've always thought that sounded like fun and would prevent that "pefectionist" in me. Plus it would have the added benefit of finishing a build ! And it could be "just for the fun of it".

Nice ! Reverse the color scheme and you'd have a Jamie Davis HR wrecker ! -

Man... I'd LOVE to build a "Jamie Davis" HR model. Somebody needs to do the decals for that !!! Adam's Kenworth T800 would be a smokin' nice wrecker to build too ! Wow ... super job on that project ! -

Forget the decals, I just wish they would fix the big issues in the kit ! -

I just started watching this on NetFlix (after I watched all the "Movin' On" episodes on YouTube about 6 times each). I LOVE IT !! -
The Des Moines show is gonna be really special. The "Movin 'On" Kenworth is going to be there and so will the "BJ and the Bear" Kenworth cabover. A "two-fer" !! By the way -- has anyone else noticed how the re-issued 359 "California Hauler" kits have pretty much disappeared ? My LHS didn't think they were discontinued, but boy you just don't see them anywhere right now. I got the last one at my LHS, and haven't seen them anywhere online lately (except ebay).

Unfortunately the Freightliner COE kits are a b%^&$ to build and take a lot of re-engineering to get them to go together right. I wish they'd fix that stuff instead of "perfuming the pig" by putting the same stuff in new wraps. -

Wow - I love those tires. So much nicer looking than the vinyl "bricks" in the kit ! Are those the "drive tire 2" tires from Double Take ?
