  1. So, I assume you probably don't want to try to scrape it off to glue the part. What are you using to glue the chrome parts to plastic ?
  2. Yeah .. the problem is this stuff is REAL chrome. So there is no stripping it. Just paint it. Just got the info from the Salvinos facebook page.
  3. Hey all: The chrome on the Salvinos JR NASCAR kits is a different animal -- my "go to" for removing chrome Easy-Off oven cleaner doesn't look like it's up to the job for some reason like on other chrome. Anyone have something that has worked ? Thanks.
  4. Beautiful !!! I had a couple questions: 1) What did you paint the headers and exhaust pipes with ? It looks fantastic. 2) Are the Salvinos kits from the original Monogram molds ? Thanks!
  5. Awesome !!! What red paint did you use for that ? Thanks
  6. I've heard of guys using "Future" to "tack" the roll cage parts to the chassis so they can build the roll cage and the take it off the chassis to paint it as a single unit. I know there are several "Future" products -- does anyone know which one they would be using to do this ? Thanks
  7. OK -- got the "boat anchor", radiator, cross member, and drive shaft in yesterday. That was a bit of a challenge getting 4 parts in at exactly the same time.
  8. She'll get a little "color" when the "boat anchor" gets dropped in.
  9. Thanks for that. I have tried the 2-part 5-minute epoxy as well on some small interior parts (door handle, ash tray, etc.) and it did work well. It's good to know that scraping the painted surface is not needed -- that can be tricky and prone to a big "oops" and ruining the finish.
  10. Hi all: What are you using to glue clear windshields from the inside of bodies and do you need to scrape the paint first or are you gluing to a painted surface ? Same question about gluing small chrome trim to a painted body (lights, horns, door handles, mirrors, etc.) -- what kind of glue are you using ? And can you glue directly to a painted surface ? Thanks !
  11. Well, the paint spirits were smiling down on us again this past weekend here in southern Wisconsin. We had a break in the humidity and a fairly calm day, so I was able to get the frame painted in the garage. Will be working on getting the "boat anchor" installed this week. I also got a bit of the interior done -- still need to paint the cab shell interior before painting the cab and hood.
  12. Thx -- Just ordered the cab striping decals. Can't decide whether to paint it a cream color or silver. I'll see what shade of red the decals are when they get here. I was hoping to get a dark red/maroon shade to go with a cream color cab -- but we'll see when they arrive.
  13. Got the engine in -- still have the exhaust rubber banded to the engine as per the instructions until the cab is mounted to the frame. Interior colors are from a 1:1 photo that I'm trying to copy (at least as best I can).
  14. RE: " I imagine one has to cut the tabs to move it forward." It takes a bit more than that. You won't be able to gain enough with just the front axle mount area on the springs in the kit. I had to "extend" the front axle mount surface forward by 0.100".
  15. Got the frame painted. Working on some of the interior tonight. I'm waiting for the exhaust to dry and then I'll be able to drop the engine, driveshaft, and radiator into the frame.
  16. Yep. The famous Gorilla Glue CA (with the blue cap) worked it's magic ! It worked when ZAP CA+ wouldn't (or maybe my ZAP CA is too old). Thanks
  17. Nope. Pacer Formula 560 Canopy glue didn't do the job. I'll try the famous Gorilla Glue CA with the blue cap.
  18. Thanks -- I thought about "Shoe Goo" -- it's messy stuff and tough to work with tight places. I did also see a post regarding using "Pacer Formula '560' Canopy Glue" for gluing vinyl. I've used that stuff for gluing lexan canopies on my RC airplanes - it will glue to anything. I may try that first, as it is easier to work with/less messy.
  19. I'm working on an old AMT/ERTL truck kit that has the 2-piece vinyl tires. The fit on the 2 halves on some of them isn't great -- so I'd like to "tack" them together flush. The instructions say "Do not glue". But, after sitting in the box for over 40 years, some of them aren't perfectly flat, so some "help" is needed. What type of glue would work for vinyl ? Thanks
  20. Thanks for this note -- ugh. I've got a 352 on bench (parked right now). Thankfully, I don't have the front axle on it yet! This is the *FOURTH* AMT kit I've worked on that has a problem with the front axle. ?
  21. Hey -- thanks for this great pic of attaching the brakes. I have one of these "parked" on my bench right now -- I struggled with the brake attachment to the axles. The instructions were useless and I'm not a driver or mechanic, so it was kind of a mystery since there is no "positive" attachment point for these. Thanks again!
  22. Thanks -- it's been a long time coming, but I WILL finish BOTH these "sister" trucks by year end !!!
  23. Got the frame primered yesterday, and more parts on the engines for these "sister trucks".
  24. Cool. Thanks. Now to find somewhere to get them. I checked one large online model site -- they are out of a lot of the Vallejo stuff. Our local shop doesn't carry them, and our local Hobby Lobby stores are closed ?
