  1. Nice. Any details on: 1) how you saved the roof? 2) how hard was it to rescribe the door lines? 3) how hard was it to scratchbuild the new grille?
  2. No personal experience, but folks have suggested Firebird to me for my decal projects. http://firebird-designs.ecrater.com He may have stuff in stock that you can use, or may be able to scale something up for 1/18th scale.
  3. ...? Wouldn't the molds count as assets for sale? Mold-making and casting tools? Masters, in case replacement molds need to be made? Seems like those would all be worth a bit of coin...
  4. I read the other "workbench" series, but it seems to have ended abruptly. Can you expound on the photoetch work?
  5. I measured the rear box of Massport's Rescue 1... and found that the wheelbase of the Meng F-350 is about 1 inch too short. A "stock" F-550 has a 176in wheelbase, but Rescue 1 appears to have a 200in wheelbase. Um... This adds an unforeseen step: I have to cut the chassis and add about an inch to the rails, driveshaft, and exhaust.
  6. ... Yowza. Great model of a gorgeous car.
  7. I rummaged through enough of Amazon and The Bay and such to find a HEMTT kit to use, at least as parts for a 1/35. Assuming that project is successful, I would want to scale up the research to make a 1/24 Striker. Artwork for the Massport Rescue 1 (Meng F-350) is plowing along, and once finished, I need to find a place who can print them. I have decent color for the "Massport yellow" from ScaleFinishes, and tonight I'm sizing up materials for scratchbuilding the rear box. Beyond that, I'm still a n00b and bumbling my way along. Wish me luck-
  8. Thanks. I'll give that technique a try.
  9. Nice demo. And it's an award-winner meant to be driven? That's just gorgeous...
  10. Awesome examples, thanks for starting this thread. My scratch building skills are rudimentary, so I'm hoping my Massport Rescue 1 project will be a simple enough learning curve to achieve some measure of success. I'd like to consider an OshKosh, if it's something I could swing in 1/35, adapting some existing kit, but I'm ignorant of my choices for source kits.
  11. Just shopped at scalefinishes, shop boss Jameston Kroon was very helpful in finding the colors I needed. Colors look right, out of the box. After I spray, you'll see how they compare to the real vehicles. Much happiness with scalefinishes.com ...
  12. Congratulations on a gorgeous model in progress, and glad to see how far your hand has healed.
  13. Thank you all for the replies. Do you know which kit(s) could be used to make either of these (even in 1/35): http://www.ericsfirepics.com/MA/Massport_Engine3.jpg http://www.ericsfirepics.com/MA/Massport_Engine21.jpg Also, 1000 apologies to Kilrathy10 for sidetracking your thread with my n00b questions...
  14. ... Holy guacamole. Is it poor form for a man to weep openly at such a well-done paint job?

    Fiat Abarth

I scoffed at the title; "Why would I click to see a model of a Fiat Abarth?" Alas, I'm glad I clicked. Awesome build, very clean finish.
  16. Nice start, post more. How about pics of the lengthened chassis...?
  17. I like basic stuff. I never could afford the sports cars, so I'd rather build the cars I actually drove. A U-Haul kinda fits that category.
  18. Yikes. Do you take commissions (for either design or print)?
  19. This entire build was a great trip to my youth. I built the Revell 34 Phantom II Continental back in the late 70s (kit H-1294). This build prompted me to find it, built and boxed, hidden on a shelf in my parents' basement. A gluebomb for sure, but not as bad as I'd remembered.
  20. Gorgeous. I love sleepers.
  21. Looks like it should have a family of possums living in the glove compartment. Well done example of the salt/rust technique. Bravo-
  22. Proof that snap kits can be made to look pretty good. Nice job.
  23. I figure they deserve a plug, so here goes: Bought a set of Dually rims and tires for my Meng F-350 project. Shop owner Daniel was quick to respond, and quick to ship. The rims feel relatively thin, but shouldn't be a problem. I'll definitely keep Scenes Unlimited in mind when looking for new wheels for any model. Best-
  24. Ok. Engine, chassis, and interior done. My general philosophy is to make a model look like "one year out, after a car wash." That generally means engine and undercarriage are a bit grimy, and for work trucks, a grimy interior. Dually tires and rims just rolled in from Scenes Unlimited; how to achieve faux shininess is TBD. Next up: paint the exterior, scratch the box, draw a crapton of decals, and get scale diamondplate. Any advice, please let me know. (Other than "get a better camera." I know that one.)
