  1. I am in no more of an "enviable position" than the rest of you. I work for a living and support a family, mortguage, monthly bills, etc. I also have two sons in college that continously empty my wallet. I spend what I can afford on my hobby. If you have to worry about every penny you spend you won't have a hobby other than accounting. I have no idea how much money I've spent on models and the accompaning accessories and I don't care. It's already spent and I'll probably continue spending what I can afford on something that keeps my mind & hands busy and myself happy.
  2. I just read this entire thread and you all make good points. I've been building primarily 1/8 scale models for around five years and the main reason I've quit entering my large builds in shows is while you bi-scale guys walk in with a plastic tub or briefcase with five or six models I have to make five or six trips to the car to bring them in and five or six trips to take them out. I'm old, fat & lazy and just don't want to do it anymore. As for the cost, who cares. You're gonna spend the money on something, why not spend it on something you enjoy and I enjoy building large scale.
  3. So, can we see pics of your previous completed 1/8 scale builds then ?
  4. Hey Bill, glad you're here. There is an option to "share photo" on Fotki. Click the link and & paste the link here. If you want the pic to show here just put before & after the link. Hope that makes sense.
  5. I never wanted your history or personal conflicts to be brought up here Don. I just wanted to see your work. I will reserve my comments in the future.
  6. No problem Don. Just a casual observation. By the way, I looked on Scale Motor Cars website and wasn't able to find any of your completed work. Do you have a Fotki or fotobucket site so I can see some of your finished big scale builds.
  7. OK, you might want to crop the date stamp from your pics.
  8. I didn't get it from a web site Doug. The man who created it sent it to me. The forum post for his Camaro build can be seen here ... http://www.largescalemodeler.com/newforum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2473
  9. ZONE ALARM. It's all in one. Firewall, anti everything, blocks all the ###### BEFORE it gets to your computer. I've used it for eight years and only had one serious infection and that was my fault. Plus they are having a 50% off sale right now. http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/cdn/za/zaxs-zass-compare.htm?lid=en-us&cid=W200075&source=ggl&medium=cpc&term=zone%20alarm&content=withaddons http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/home.htm?lid=en-us
  10. Thanks Dwayne, I took a ball point pen spring and cut it in half.
  11. The orange parts were cast in color and some have been clear coated and some haven't.
  12. I know he has sold a couple of the engines Mike. What I don't know is if/when he will put them into production. I'll ask him. Pocher kits are the same way. I guess it's all about how much detail you want.
  13. It is a one of a kind George. He's scratch building the entire car not just the engine.
  14. I'm right at home with an SBC and this is just like a real one. More detail ... .
  15. I wanted y'all to see this before I started because I'm gonna lose some of these parts. I had to break out the high optic magnifing zoom glases. heh heh heh.
  16. The pistons fit the rods with a press fit pin. The crank installed just like a real one with individual main caps. The piston & rod assemblys fit in through the top of the cylinders and were bolted with rod caps, studs and 00-90 nuts. The heads came with individual springs and rocker arms and once assembled looked real. There are more pics here of other assemblies. http://public.fotki.com/old-hermits-garage/8thscalemodels/bills-camaro-engine/ I will be adding more pics as I progress and will post more here when available. Stay tuned. .
  17. The castings are the best I have ever seen. I started by painting various parts to simulate cast iron, aluminum and machined surfaces. more ...
  18. A master craftsman and member of my home board is scratch building a 1/8 scale Camaro from a real one he dismanteled for specs. He sent me a resin copy of the engine to build and give him my honest opinion. When it arrived I was blown away. Each assembly was individually packaged and labeled and it came with a full set of detailed instructions including exploded pics. more ...
  19. During WW2 many people turned their cars into trucks because ya got more gas rationing stamps with a truck. Great old beater farm truck Zuk, but watch out for dem fences !!!!!!!! :P
  20. Don't rush off. Just read the first post with the pics and don't read the replys. That way you get the candy from the "interesting builds" and no BS.
  21. Lighten up a little y'all. They don't even look alike.
  22. If it's a model it's gotta be large scale to get the tire sag. I say real.
  23. Top shelf build John. I love the truck.
  24. I didn't have any problems with IE6 and just upgraded to IE8 and so far no problems.
