  1. Hey, the British sent all their criminals to Australia and look how that turned out !!!!!!!
  2. Nope, if you put two or more people togther before long there will be an argument. You want proof ? Read the above posts. As for 2012, we ain't got long to wait huh ?
  3. Heres a start ... http://www.thehydrogencompany.com/products...tegory-106.html http://www.geocities.com/aardduck/fc_companies.html
  4. The reason why I say you won't see fuel cell cars is the same reason you won't have fuel cells powering your house or anything else for that matter. The technology has been around over 170 years but nobody has developed it commercially because there's no PROFIT in it. The entire world is run on profit & loss. Why would anyone build something that they can't make money off of. A fuel cell the size of a small portable generator can provide enough power to run a 2500 square foot house with some left over. Ya think the local power company wants to buy YOUR excess power ? NO, they want to SELL you power. Right back to the BOTTOM DOLLAR. To quote an old quote "The Golden Rule, He who has the gold makes the rules". .The Invention of the Fuel Cell Sir William Grove invented the first fuel cell in 1839. Grove knew that water could be split into hydrogen and oxygen by sending an electric current through it (a process called electrolysis). He hypothesized that by reversing the procedure you could produce electricity and water. He created a primitive fuel cell and called it a gas voltaic battery. After experimenting with his new invention, Grove proved his hypothesis. Fifty years later, scientists Ludwig Mond and Charles Langer coined the term fuel cell while attempting to build a practical model to produce electricity.
  5. You will NEVER see fuel cell cars produced because a fuel cell can be incorporated into the design of a car and installed on board. No moving parts, will never wear out and the FUEL (water) can be had at your garden hose. No PROFIT in that huh ? All comes down to the bottom dollar.
  6. FYI, Although they are not expected to reach the mass market before 2010, fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) may someday revolutionize on-road transportation. This emerging technology has the potential to significantly reduce energy use and harmful emissions, as well as our dependence on foreign oil. FCVs will have other benefits as well. FCVs represent a radical departure from vehicles with conventional internal combustion engines. Like battery-electric vehicles, FCVs are propelled by electric motors. But while battery electric vehicles use electricity from an external source (and store it in a battery), FCVs create their own electricity. Fuel cells onboard the vehicle create electricity through a chemical process using hydrogen fuel and oxygen from the air. FCVs can be fueled with pure hydrogen gas stored onboard in high-pressure tanks. They also can be fueled with hydrogen-rich fuels; such as methanol, natural gas, or even gasoline; but these fuels must first be converted into hydrogen gas by an onboard device called a "reformer." FCVs fueled with pure hydrogen emit no pollutants; only water and heat; while those using hydrogen-rich fuels and a reformer produce only small amounts of air pollutants. In addition, FCVs can be twice as efficient as similarly sized conventional vehicles and may also incorporate other advanced technologies to increase efficiency. ... and you can fill up at the garden hose !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. The F engine is a 3.9 liter, 75/93 kW (105/125 hp), carburated gasoline engine that is capable of 261/289 N·m (189/209 ft·lbf) of torque at 2000 RPM; the difference in power and torque is different depending on the export destination. The original design was started in the early 1950s when Toyota had begun to export their vehicles internationally. The F engine is based on the 1939-63 G.M.C. L6 OHV 228 etc. OHV engine (rather than the similar but smaller Chevrolet 1937-63 Gen-2 L6 OHV engine), and built under license. The general idea was consumers would feel comfortable with the engine since it was a familiar design and had a proven track record. Some of the bottom end of the engine is rumored to be interchangeable with these engines, although the dimensions are metric. The engine was first introduced in the Land Cruiser, and in many countries, was the only engines offered in the Landcruiser until 1993. Although it's commonly badged as the Land Cruiser engine, it was used in a variety of other large truck applications as well, such as in fire trucks and the Toyota FQ-15 trucks. It was also used in the Crown based Japanese Police Patrol Cars FH26 and FS20-FS50.
  8. VERY nice dio Derrick. I am definately a fan of your work !
  9. Even though I don't like the new cars, I call them rubber stamps, the current generation of hot rodders are doing the same thing we did as kids weather it was in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's. They are taking a ten year old car that can be bought cheap and putting every dollar they can afford to make it go fast or look good or both. Gotta give them credit for doing ANYTHING with what they have to work with. I know most of us are old farts who would rather have a '32 deuce or '70's muscle car but the young guys are running the R&D departments of American auto makers and they are producing what they think will sell. Computer programs, wind tunnels, fuel economy, government regulations, etc all have a BIG impact on what they can do. I know I'm rambling but the age of backyard hot rods and cool Detroit iron is dead. Hell, ya can't even tune up your '98 Blazer without a computer.
  10. Nice build Gramps. I like the bikes. Looks like an old Triumph board tracker in the rear.
  11. When I got into actually building the dio the theme changed radically. It's all about packing everything up, going to the drag strip and finding it closed. Hope y'all like it. PS, I didn't have any skin tone paint so the guy's a little pale. heh heh heh. More pics here. http://public.fotki.com/old-hermits-garage...g-to-the-drags/

    Rodney

Ya done real good Geeze. Love the chicken wire.
  13. That's a LOT of plumbing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It and the Lenco are looking great. .
  14. Very nice, I like the two tone paint.
  15. Excellent scratch building !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Got one Glenn, thanks for looking.
  17. Now that I've finished the drag bike its back to the dio. Finished the engine in the Nomad and built a tow bar.
  18. Nice detail on the chassis and engine. Wally World paint ain't bad for $1.00 a can. heh heh heh.
  19. Got her done this AM. Build pics here. http://public.fotki.com/old-hermits-garage...hans-drag-bike/
  20. Got to the shop early this AM and finished her up. I made oil lines from solid copper wire and 00.90 nuts. Installed the magneto, kicker and painted the pipes flat white. Installed fuel lines, throttle cables and front brake line.. I'm tired of all lines and cables being black so I color coded them. Completed shifter, linkage, brake and peg. Ta Da ... More pics of the finished model here ... http://public.fotki.com/old-hermits-garage...hans-drag-bike/ .
  21. Since some of the tiny parts are either broken or missing I've had to be creative with some kit bashing and scratch building. Bolted on clutch arm with 00.90 bolt Made spark plug caps with brass tubing. Had to make a shifting linkage with .037 piano wire. I modified a CHP shifter to fit (bottom right) and made a brake lever out of junk box parts (top). .
  22. We have some gifted women up here in the foothills too ! http://www2.wspa.com/spa/news/crime/articl...en_horse/24162/ Melissa Keeney Published: July 28, 2009 Six Mile, S.C, - A Pickens woman was charged with public disorderly conduct after deputies say she rode a horse on Main Street through Six Mile. Tracy Nadine Ellenburg, 40, was charged by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office around 1:35pm on July 25. A pedestrian told deputies a woman was riding a horse on the double-yellow line and was having trouble staying on the animal according to the incident report. “They say she rode it back and forth between cars, stopping cars,“ says witness Cindy Leitzsey. Deputies found the horse tied to a park bench at the gas pumps at the convenience store where Leitzsey works. Ellenburg was inside trying to use the phone when she was asked for identification. “Somebody called the law for drunk driving. Drunk riding rather,“ Leitzsey says. The incident report says Ellenburg smelled of alcohol and said she had consumed a six pack of beer before leaving on the horse. “She even stopped at the cub scouts car wash booster, and she asked them to wash her horse,“ says witness Paul Pratt. Laurie Bray watched the whole thing too. “I told ‘em if she was gonna do it, she should have stolen a car. At least get away! Cause a horse doesn’t go very fast. Somebody’s gonna notice!“ The horse’s owner, Tim Mauldin, told Newschannel 7 he won’t press charges this time. “If she does it again I will,“ he says. In the meantime, the horse named “Fancy†sure did fancy all the attention. “I just stood there and held the horse, and the ice cream man came up and gave it a popcicle, somebody else gave it an apple,“ says Leitzsey. “It was one of those Six Mile moments for sure,“ says Bray. “That won’t ever happen again.“
  23. Got some time in the shop today and did a few little things to help her along. It's raining and dreary so the want to just wasn't there. Since the original was molded in blue and I had half a can of blue metallic left from a 1/25 pickup she's back in blue, only a nicer shade. Hans, the original builder, upholstered the seat originally with brown leather and I thought it had aged nicely so I dyed it black and left it intact. There was only one foot peg so I took some styreen rod and made new ones on my lathe. Not quite like the qriginals but they'll do. The brake lever was broken off and gone so I made one from a straight pin. A little silver paint and they are serviceable. Will do some detail painting when the weather permits. Stay tuned, more later. .
  24. Been a long time since I've seen paper wrapped tires. Looking good Ed.
