I wanted to paint a scale effect. It was very simple. I stretched a piece of material called tulle(pronounced more like tool), over my test body. Taped it on the inside and hit it with a light spray. Thought it was a cool effect.
That's where my head was at. It just didn't seem logical to me to put so much detail into something only to botch something so flagrant. Thanks for that bit of information. I'm thinking about purchasing this kit from a friend of mine. The deal is stellar. However, I don't possess your skills and it's still a lot of money. I'll be following this closely. Thanks for your reply, Mike.
I like the history lesson in the beginning of this thread. I'm curious about something though. When you got this you had a thread about it. Somebody mentioned the roof line and the rear light being off on the kit. My question is, with a production # of 65 over 4 years, these were probably hand formed bodies. Could there have been some variation from one to another?
Cheapest I've seen that one recently was I believe about $850. Closer to $1200 seems the norm. It's kind of a shame the collectors set the market. The only upside is sometimes it devalues distressed kits. (Opened, started, missing parts, etc.)
A lot of what I think is cool has to do with what was cool when I was younger. My tastes were pretty much developed in my pre-teen/teen years. I imagine it's that way for many people. That being said, I've always been able to appreciate others work, wether or not it's to my personal taste.
Interesting, I would have thought earlier with that kind of detail and craftsmanship. I always wondered why these kits warranted such a price tag. I get it now.
By the way, just kidding about the chop to the throat. I find this build incredibly interesting. I've seen some of your work and can't wait to see this one. What an awesome model. I know you mentioned this was an early release. I am curious as to when this was made. Thanks, Mike.
I've noticed selling on eBay that some of my hard to find vintage items brought strong money from the foreign markets. (I'm in the U.S.). Some things are very hard to get overseas and just cost more because of it.
Hey Daddyfink , A.C. Norton and I have been trying to contact you. I think your box is full or disabled. Sorry to post here, but have been trying for a couple days now. Thanks, Mike.
I actually have 2 favorites from "back in the day " . First was my best friend in high school's Pinto that we shoved a 289 hypo and a 4 speed in. Too many stories there. We grew up in the country so on road and off road fun. Sometimes off road unintentionally. Second was my 74 Montego, I didn't check the oil and blew the engine. The same friends father had an R-code motor under a tarp in the barn. We put it in the Montego and put the 351 under the tarp. Destroyed that car in 2 weeks. Put his C.J. back, dropped the 351 back under the hood and scrapped it. May have been the best 2 weeks of my life. I'm still not sure why I'm not a Ford guy.
