  1. Don't have or want an airbrush! Don't want to wait or spring for plating, so what is the best rattle can substitute? Will the Alclad in spray for Lexan work with a barrier coat under it? Isn't the gloss black just that? I need something that won't eat resin. What say ye?
  2. Looks great! Keep going.
  3. Here's a quick examples of what I mean. If you look close, quite a bit of variation in colors of various metals. Aluminum isn't just aluminum! Very little on actual drag cars was chrome, nobody polished their cars constantly, they were "weathered" by use, lots were open towed too. 60's drag cars weren't show cars.
  4. I improvise too. BUT I see colors that are pretty perfect and thought there should be a better method than trial and error. Like old aluminum, steel, weathered blacks etc. I found the old Floquil railroad colors very useful and it was nice lowing paint ( I still have some). Most out of the bottle or "metal" paints look way too new for me. Just an idea, a variation on the what fits what idea.
  5. "Rivet counting in my opinion is just a derogatory term for a style of building." I disagree. Rivet counting is style of CRITICISM, not building. I think all modelers "value" accuracy and detail. It's an attitude of superiority and condescension, it's mostly meant to establish "I build better than you do". THAT is what I dislike.
  6. "I think that any of us that have tried this will attest that it's not the best idea and it might be a good service to warn other members who might not be as advanced in their knowledge of painting techniques and unaware of the possible consequences." That is quite different than rivet counting. come on! I don't think that applies here in the least. "Every thread has the tendency to morph into other subjects. It's just the nature of the beast. " Yeah, except my original post was meant to be POSITIVE and some comments here are decidedly negative.
  7. Criticism is great if it's wanted. I see minor mistakes in drag cars posted very often, usually tires, classes, setback etc. But so what. It bugs ME, but who am I to criticize unless i'm asked. What is second nature to me as a 66 year old guy who has gone to drag races since 1965 ISN'T to most model builders. What we have in common is racing, models and hopefully a sense of fun. It just isn't vital or all that important. People post their models because they are pleased and happy with them, not so they can be raked over the coals. I have better things to do than ruin someone else's good time because I am "right"! This kind of stuff ruins many real car events too. I don't think I've ever attended a show or race where I haven't heard some blowhard's just ridiculous comments on something! AGAIN, my intent in this thread was to prevent myself from sabotaging my own efforts, how it (the thread ) turned into criticizing others is beyond me. Like most , I am my own worst critic.
  8. YUP!!!!!! That's what it means to me.
  9. Nice work! I like it!
  10. Didn't know this kit had FI! What is it like? anybody??
  11. Not to derail the thread, but the Speed City set comes with M/T valve covers as well. He has a new 65 Ford Econoline body kit. IF you succeed with the Algon ( and I'm sure you will), please consider sending to a caster. It sure would be nice to have available. Same with Hillborn and Algon's for Pontiacs.
  12. Speed City has just released a Hillborn intake for Fords, the 67 annual Comet also had a nice set.I realize these are different manifolds, but it might be a starting point. I always found it surprising there wasn't more variety in FE models. Half the work is already done. NOW, about the Y-Block injection.
  13. The magazine and this forum belong to Gregg, not it's members. I appreciate and am in fact, grateful for both! That being said, more internet forums have been ruined by uncivil and ridiculous behavior than anything else. The web seems to invite bad behavior doesn't it? I can see no reasons at all for any animosity here, IT'S A FORUM FOR MODEL CARS! Not the fate of the universe ! LIGHTEN UP! I can't think of anything model related to get so worked up over. People project their crankiness, argumentative and negative nature online, just don't guys! just restrain yourselves. I do notice that it's usually the same uber sensitive posters that get riled, maybe they should learn how to be polite and get along with others!
  14. As the OP of this thread I hope we can stay on track and not let my thread turn into some argument. It just isn't there, no criticism, "veiled" or otherwise of anyone or anything. I just was speaking for myself saying I want to try to not be SELF DEFEATING in my builds. Let's not manufacture conflict just for the sake of conflict. That makes no sense.
  15. Yup. I remember. He's uh, pretty far right wing. What really sunk him politically was his "aliens have taken over the government" website. Not kidding, he's a big believer in UFO's, aliens and some conspiracy stuff. He had a site bemoaning the "takeover" of the US government by aliens and was WIDELY mocked. Lizard people, underground bases.....the whole deal. Google Garlits aliens Gar is a nice guy, the greatest drag racer ever, but....................................a bit far out on some things.
  16. Looks good Daniel! I need the speed regulator though. I'm not seeing the device on the Micro Mark site .?????
  17. I have several of his items and the straight 8 Buick and Pontiac straight 8.Good quality stuff. i can't swear by accuracy, never measured or researched them, but I think they look good. Ken's a good guy.
  18. My Dremel works too fast for grilles, what did you use? I have a later Ranchero (65?) grille that's a little better.
  19. Scott, don't know if you have seen it but an outfit called Southern Motorsports casts a basically stock size all aluminum one piece full interior for the 65-66 Cuda. Good quality and price and prompt delivery I bought several. Fits like a gove, I'm sure it was made from the AMY original. You could add the detail (if you choose ) visible in the photo very easily with sheet plastic. Just an idea.
  20. Right on Tom! LOL! I was shocked to see I have nearly two Bankers Boxes full of Resin and Parts Packs! I need to start building, I just turned 66! I have stuff I'd forgotten about! A Fuel Cuda body! A 66 Miss STP Paula Murphy Mustang )body! Corvair funny car bodies! 66 Valiant Hairy Canary assorted early Ford bodies, chopped etc. Gasser material! TONS of various drag motor parts! This stuff goes back to the late 80's! I need to stop defeating myself and start building and painting! Half the work is already done.
  21. Yep. There's a whole other world of pre Logghe 66 space frames from 64 to 68. Lots of square tube, perimeter frames and "additions" to unit chassis. Plus just Totally gutted unitized stockers. Safe? Uh, not really.!!It was trial and error time! NO SET METHODS! Makes it creative and fun to me.
  22. Interesting! I'd love to hear more about this! I guess my grilles would be pretty simple 9 in detail ) really just horizontal bars that would fit between the plastic headlight buckets. These are for 60's funny cars, I want a gutted see through look. HMMMMMM!
  23. Look around on the web, funny cars were constructed in a huge variety of ways until 68-69 or so! Guys forget they started out as stock cars!
