  1. It's been 20 years since any Walmarts in the San Fernando Valley sold models. The boxes were always opened, just laying there. I bought a Polar Lights FC when they came out, inside it was just sprue and paper towels. Somebody bought it, stole the kit, put shrink wrap on it and returned it.
  2. Great. But these are MODERN CARS, not a 1960 car.
  3. Race cars then changed almost weekly! First, do you want the 64 or the 65? I have a HRM feature on it (65) and I recall he had a Hydro 4 speed automatic in it that he replace with a GM auto ( I can't remember which.). I can try to dig out the issue.
  4. He had more success as an altered than a gas class car. It's NOt as simple as just taking off the 'glass front though NOTE the "A" grille shell.
  5. The paint and resin divisions of MVW are owned by different guys. I'm please to report that the resin half is as good as it ever was. Prompt, great quality and great subject matter! Got the 64 Old 442 hardtop, the convertible version was the very first 1/25 car model I ever bought , along with the 64 Chev (working lights) way back in 1964! Looking forward to building this! THANKS MCW!
  6. Just bought some from Amazon, I hate painting so I'm checking out problems before I use them. What's your experience. I don't like BMF. It looks tinny, toylike and out of place, plus I'm an idiot when applying it! I once was pretty good at painting trim, hoping the pens will do the trick. I swear I was a better builder 50 years ago than now! THANKS IN ADVANCE!
  7. Scott, just go HERE: http://georgeklass.net/gassers.html George is a 60's nitro racer, was a fixture at LIONS and knows his stuff! You can read about the classes and factual history, plus a zillion pictures ranging from the mid 50's to 70's. THESE ARE REAL PERIOD CARS, not "tribute" or modern racecars!
  8. AA/MSP Corvettes were sorta the first Funny cars. The Corvette Auto Parts 63 was a proto FC thanks to the chassis rules. Pete Arend's Mongoose was another killer A/MSP car as was Norm Cowdrey's Healy! Not very many cars IN the class though.
  9. Virgil Cates did this with his 33 Willys, won a bunch.
  10. I think the single biggest mistake for period cars is tires. 10 and 10.5 inch "pie crust" ( a modern term ) tires were HUGE in 60-64. Fuel dragster tires. They were the largest made. I see "period " models with huge tires. NOPE! By the way, theres a real difference in those 4 years. A B/G car would likely use a 8 or 9 inch tire and a 15 inch wheel. Fronts sized to keep the car level. NO altered wheelbases, NO gutted interior, MUST have 4 wheel brakes, full "stock type" interior, can ditch the back seat. A 10% engine setback measured from the front spindle to the first (closets) spark plug hole on the engine, MAX 24 inches high crankshaft centerline. AND very few cars (in gas) ran drag chutes. NHRA didn't require a chute until you went 150 mph, which was super fast the. FEW AA/GS cars ran that fast. Zoomies ala FC weren't invented yet, headers had to exit under the car into a collector. ETS were from the 13.00's to the high-mid 10.00's. The BB Chevy came out in 1965, wasn't very common until 66 though.
  11. Don't be so fragile. Why can't we discuss things?
  12. "Facts are facts(big deal), but we are rewriting the dictionary every day, and if someone wants to call these cars gassers, who's to say that they're right or wrong." THAT is an unbelievable statement, so ridiculous and modern BS "millenialish" that it defies REALITY> There ARE FACTS in life, not everything is a matter of opinion. Unbelievable, simply ASTOUNDING! When somebody asks about THE HISTORY of a class in 1960, IT"S ABOUT FACTS, not opinion! OBVIOUSLY. SWC cars were blue, not yellow. Maz was candy red, not striped orange and green. FACTS> History is FACTUAL, reality, not somebody's opinion. The 396 didn't come out in 1955 , FACT. The DOHC 289 was never in the Model A, FACT. ETC> Doesn't anyone get an education anymore??LOL OH, and yes I kNOW there was a black SWC car. Guess I didn't see all that I saw and photographed at the strip, the magazines are ALL wrong................because it doesn't fit with your opinion. If you want to build toys, fine, who cares. But if you want miniature replicas, there ARE st.......and those pesky facts. andards
  13. Except Scott asked about gas class cars in 1960 or so. NONE of those pictures are from that time. ALL are modern cars. SEE, there is such a thing as objective FACTS. FACTS. Look it up.FACTS. You are the same guys that think pics of tire smoking front engine dragsters are BURNOUTS. Do you know that it's been DECADES since the NHRA even ran gas classes? Can you READ the rules from that time? Scott asked about rules from 58 years ago and you post pics from the 2000 teens. I do not CARE what you build, not at all. But if you build a 41 Willys Pro Stock, it's not accurate, and people WILL LAUGH at it. These things are actual FACTS, truth, not opinion. HOW SCARY, FACTS!!!!
  14. ALL but one of those cars are MODERN CARS, not 60's gas classes. AND the one that is jacked up is unclassed, it could very well have been run as an altered.
  15. All NHRA classes were weight and cubic inches. Read the Rulebooks, they specifically say that "cars must be level:". My first race was 1964, I NEVER saw jacked up cars racing. Whatever, I refuse to argue.
  16. EXCEPT.....the High & Mighty is an ALTERED, not a gas class car. Two totally different classes, not even close. a Multitude of differences. it SAYS, C/ A= altered right on it!
  17. I only mentioned the engine size as relates to class. Classes were figured displacement into weight. I had Altered States cast me some Austin Healey seats, sports car seats were popular in gas classes, light eight and easily obtained. He might make you some if you ask. You just need to make taller mountings for them. They don't have to be from stockers, "custom" seats are OK. I'm doing 2 B / Gassers. a 40 with a chain driven Buick nailhead blown 4-71 a B'GS, second is a BB Chevy B/G injected. LOOKS COOL! Keep us posted1
  18. Good choice, but the 58 engine is a 348. Don't jack it up too much in front! Steelies are good!
  19. Some items on the site are NOT currently available, he states that clearly. Try this: skmodeler@sbcglobal.net
  20. Always get my order in about one week with perfect parts. Plus he makes stuff for drag racing that nobody else does, accurate, realistic at a fair price. And an honest guy. There are other great resin casters, but Speed City IS one of the best! Doing an Enderle injected, M/T valve covers big block Chevy A/Gas 37 Chevy.
  21. Outta the park! Very creative and NICE EXECUTION! LOVE IT!
  22. STILL searching for the right material! Not sold on solder, tubing kinks, solid plastic is so inflexible. So, what do you use? Please post some pics, especially of weedburners ( weedsweepers ), process and final result would be good! THANKS
  23. One thing I KNOW is drag racing. That Vicky is GREAT, perfect choices of parts and great execution too, VERY AUTHENTIC AND ACCURATE! A really nice build!
  24. Snake is 100% right. By 66, stock frames were mostly gone. I say mostly because there are always exceptions to every rule. I'd build a square tube frame. It also depends on what KIND (or class) of funny car. S/XS was for blown or set back more than 33% engines. A/XS was injected, no more than 33%. Nitro allowed. B/XS Same C/XS, carbed gas burners, ALL these depended ( as always on weight by cubic inches), obviously this is vastly simplified. Simple Googling will tell you a lot, 66 was the "transition era", when they ( funny cars ) went from semi steel, semi stockers into full purpose built race cars. I remember this era clearly, it was a time of super rapid advances in builds and ET's and speeds.
  25. COOL! I have often thought of building just engines! More please!
