OK, I change my entry to this Mini, if it's OK? It has an engine....not that I will be using the one in the box anyway. :P Unbuilt model.
-
I think you have some pretty good points there. I will think it over.... I can always save the 850 for a later run, because after all, as you say, if the engine type is the whole point of the build, a curbside goes a bit against it.... and I never thought about it since I was only thinking about what's there in the real car..... On the other hand, this is not a stocker buildoff so it's not as obvious. I may look in my stash for some other stuff, we'll see. I may have a good idea.

Wow! Really tough looking and the paints go very well together. Nice idea! -
Fun with Foose

Stunning look with the flames against the white, one of the nicest F100 models I've seen. -
I like it, especially the antenna is a nice touch. Of course, over here any fullsize Blazer has always been kind of an enthusiast car, but I guess it's probably accurate of how a daily driven Blazer would have looked in the US in the 80s, as someone said.

1923 Ford Model TT Farm Truck
Cpt Tuttle replied to Bobchayer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Sweet, impossible not to like. -
OK, I did choose the 850 since it (the real car) has an inline 5 cylinder as its only available engine configuration, and it feels like a curbside build by default is supposed to have its stock engine, if that's a stretch of the rules Jantrix could tell me now, and I'll choose something else.
-
Yes, that's how I interpret the rules too. It was just that my memories said that the PT did enter production somewhere before christmas 1999, I was wrong but still it would have been fun if you could slide it in as a 90s car, barely!
-
Yeah, the Fords was a little bit different engine wise from the Merkurs, the XR4 used the german V6, N/A, instead of the 2,3 turbo four used in the Merkurs. The plain jane models used the 2,0 four that you got in the early Pintos, I had one like that when I was 20 (and the 2,0 coupé versions had the same body as the Cosworth, with the big side window in the rear, but I have always liked the weird looking dual pillar XR4 better), it was very fun to drive but of course a bit gutless.... Due to the lack of weight in the rear and old dry rethreaded 175R13 tires, it could burn rubber with ease though...
-
OK, time for the 850 then.... Proof that it is an unbuilt kit....though a mess in the box with lots of other stuff that may be usable.... Since Tamiya was clever enough to cast the floor with all the reinforcements and such, I'll skip the floor mats that are just unnecessary weight.... I painted it the shade of cream I will give the body later.... I read somewhere that cream is the most discrete color for a car, that you have the highest risk of getting pulled over in a red car, the lowest risk in a cream one, so cream it is! Back seat is very unnecessary too....
-
Seems like the first PT Cruiser was built februari 14th 2000.....the body missed the 90s by 2 months. But if 80/90s style is enough, then OK!

When I was 12 I had been building for four years already and none of my builds looked even close to this, very well done.
-
Wonderful, I love builds like this where imagination and creativity clearly have been flowing.

I ended 2017 with a black Ford, and I start 2018 with a black Ford....

Have you done anything else than building this year, considering how many great looking models you have been putting out? No eating or sleeping? Very nice!
-
I think that it is 1:16....
-
Yes, count me in with this inline-5 swedish brick, please.
-
Yeah, it has taken some weird turns lately, I don't like what the youngsters have done to the culture the last 20 years or so....sure the cars could be rough once upon a time.... but at least they weren't turned into junk by purpouse....more of an old school look to this one.
-
I like the 1:1 more. (And yes, a replica of how I want my truck to the left to look when finished is in the making too)
-
Yeah, very hard to find another name for a swedish subculture, but.... "bil" is derived from "automobil" and simply means "car", and here's a little bit more about the culture... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raggare
-
In your situation, models would be the last thing for me to think about...

I started the year with building a replica of my fathers 1964 Galaxie... I hope you accept that I threw in an old stalled bike build in between? Airfix BSA C15... Had a Karmann Ghia and some useful parts lying around so I thought why not throw them together? Then my first finished heavy truck build....Mercedes-Benz Actros black edition. VW Convertible, very fun to build. Old stalled 1972 GMC I just wanted to finish...... it was driving me crazy lying there in its box unused. And finally the annual speedbuild between christmas and new years eve. Ford Thunderbird 1971.
-
Built this one as a speed build in five days. Made it into something like a swedish "raggarbil".... Enjoy.

Sounds fun, I think I'll try to join with a Monogram Lotus Esprit, I guess that's 80s enough?
