  1. I'm just figuring out I know very little about chassis detail on these trucks! If it was a sixties or eighties Mustang I'd be golden. Good thing my neighbor has his own W900, if I can catch him at home I should have some good reference material. It's much newer of course but I doubt the big stuff is much different?
  2. Very nice build. I wish the molds for that kit still existed, I would love to build one.
  3. Roll bar looks perfect on it, push bar I could take or leave. If you put it on, I'd probably leave the winch off. Absolutely beautiful build, especially considering what you started with.
  4. I wanted that Cobra for years and as of Saturday morning I had a sealed one in my hands. I didn't want to pay the asking prices on eBay but one finally popped up for $14.99 with free shipping so I jumped on it.
  5. Always wanted to build one of these. Dad has a picture of me when I was about 9 standing in front of a brand new brown and gold one that was on display at a local truck race.
  6. Not a very exciting update at this time. Spent a few hours gluing subassemblies together and sanding seams. Typical Monogram kit of the time, most things fit well, but I always cut the locating pins off and sand the mating surfaces flat anyway. My wife has me rethinking the colors I was going to paint it, I just need to buy a few colors and do some spray outs to look at. Too cold to paint anytime soon anyway so I have plenty of time to decide.
  7. Sweet, the Diamond Reo seems to have more of a work truck feel that will suit a wrecker body very well.
  8. I love B series Mack trucks and the Carolina colors will look great on this.
  9. There is really some creative stuff going on here. Makes me wish I was getting more out of the box on mine!
  10. I had hoped to actually get started on it this past weekend but I am dealing with some health issues right now and will be for the next little while probably. I have promised myself that next Sunday is a day off so I hope to get lots of prep and assembly work done then. I do want to extensively detail this one which is why I picked the larger scale.
  11. I built that kit years ago. I loved the decals but was afraid to use them because I suck at putting them on. If I come across them I'll let you know.
  12. This will be the third tractor I've ever built. The first was a Ford Aeromax and then a shortened Diamond Reo. I like building "odd" scales though, should be fun.
  13. Been looking forward to building a large scale truck and this seemed like the right excuse to buy one finally. I have a period correct paint scheme planned for it, other than that I'll just wing it and hope I don't embarrass myself!
  14. Is it the orange 79 Cobra? There are a few versions. I just got my second orange Cobra and I have one of the black "Wild Breed" versions as well.
  15. How big of a hurry are you in? I have a couple of those and one on the way today and I have been wanting to try my hand at resin casting.....
  16. I do remember a the Freightliner plant they were dropping the engine and transmission assembly in after the frame was painted. I used to paint the transmissions engine color but didn't think that was right and lately started using black on all of them. I normally paint my frames black as well but won't be on most of the ones I'm doing now. I know it's a pretty generic question, just want to do something closer to right.
  17. I have a Kenworth, a Freightliner and a few Peterbilts to put together. I think I have the engine colors down for the most part, what color should the transmissions be? I toured the Cleveland Freightliner plant years ago but I don't remember that part of the assembly line. Thanks!
  18. Dimaxion, the seats on 65s and 66s are the same - the door panels are what is different. Snake45, no 65 or 66 fastback ever had the trim you are asking about. That was a hardtop and convertible only part.
  19. Sweet. I was hoping the 72 would be a long bed Sport Custom, my dad has one he bought new. It would be too much to ask for it to be a 302 with a three on the tree, I bet it's basically the same as the 71 kit.
  20. One thing everyone (including Monogram) misses on a 65 to 66 conversion is the door panels. 65s have vertical pleats, 66s are horizontal. The exhaust is also different between the two years, 65s didn't have the transverse muffler.
  21. That's kind of why I was asking, there weren't any Hobby Lobby stores around my house when the other two came out. Thanks for that information kilrathy10!
  22. What blue paint did you use on that engine?
  23. Anyone think that this will wind up on the shelves of a Hobby Lobby? I'd hate to order one online then find out I could have gotten one at the store for 40% off.
  24. Hmm, of course last time I touched one of those kits I was 12 maybe.
