Revells 50 Ford Truck..quickie Review
Travis T replied to Gray Smith's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
If I remember right, the one with the blue truck on the box can only be built stock. -
900.00 Starsky and Hutch model!
Travis T replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Geez, I need to turn my hobby into a job..... -
I just picked up one this weekend, ruined one a long time ago and built another but sold it because I didn't like how it turned out. Someone gave me a new 65 kit and I'm going to build a resin version of my mom's 67 so I was glad to have this one back again to fill the hole. Seems so odd that so many parts are different between the 65 and 66 kits when mechanically they were the same car.

Revells 50 Ford Truck..quickie Review
Travis T replied to Gray Smith's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The one with the yellow truck on the box I'm pretty sure has the right headers, I have three versions and need to pull them out and check. I know the one with the panel painted decals is not right. I know this is old but the truck on the box that Revell based the kit on has a few issues. The front bumper is off of a 51-52 truck. The stock bumper is smooth, not ribbed. I have the same incorrect bumper on my real truck. Also, it is a floor shift which is right for 1948 to early 1950, but the bed is a late 1950 to 1952 bed. The correct bed for a floor shift truck has a raised panel on the sides, not smooth sides, and has a steel sheet over the wooden floor. The bed is 100% correct for a late 50-52 truck, those had exposed wooden floors. There has been much debate about the changes on the 1950 trucks and which truck was the first for the changes and I seem to have one of the last early 1950 trucks built. -
Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino
Travis T replied to Chuck Kourouklis's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The 70s AMT Ford trucks all had 460s with C6s. Not really a bad looking engine either I didn't think. The 70 Ford Torino from Revell also as the 429 is identical from the outside. -
Looks really good. I think the steel wheels would look better on the car anyway. What flathead did you use for your base engine?

Where did you start building model car kits?

My first one was the MPC General Lee, built sans any paint on the floor of the living room with dad's help! -
I'm a structural steel detailing coordinator for a steel fabricator. Working in the engineering office towards getting my PE license.

Ambitious build, will be very interesting to watch. I had to look this up as I have not seen the movie, the builder even widened the lower Cadillac body. That should be fun!

1956 Ford F100 extended cab
Travis T replied to Travis T's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
When I cut down the doors for the back side panels, I did put a strip of styrene on the inside of the joint. For the roof I was going to do a styrene panel for the headliner thinking that would reinforce it. -

Thanks for the tip Gator, I'll have to pick some of that up. Haven't worked on this in a couple of weeks now, been fiddling around with a few other things. When it comes to models I seem to have A.D.D haha! -
Twin engine cars have been built before, but that 32 isn't one of them believe it or not! That is a factory V12. http://madmax.wikia.com/wiki/Ford_3_Window_Coupe_1932_%22Elvis%22

1950 Ford F6 COE single axle tractor
Travis T replied to cdnmodman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Did this one stall off? I'd love to see it finished. For what it's worth, if you build an F-6, the 100 HP flathead in the 50 kit is correct believe it or not. Only the F-7 and F-8 trucks got the 337. -
If anyone here has built Monogram's 83 Mustang convertible kit #2222, you'll notice that in some of the drawings in the instructions it has the GT350 rocker stripes from a 20th anniversary 84 Mustang. I'm guessing the lawsuit with Carroll Shelby over the GT350 name being used killed off the other kit.

Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino
Travis T replied to Chuck Kourouklis's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Off topic, but if you find that weird, a 1980 Mustang with an "A" code engine could either be a 2.3 two barrel 88 HP engine or a 2.3 turbo 140 HP engine. Ford does some weird stuff. Anyway, carry on with the Torino talk. -
I really, really, really want one of those 70-72 two door Mavericks but even hearing anything remotely negative makes me skittish to order from someone. I can't chance losing the money, which is a shame because the Maverick from Missing Link is a good bit more money (although I now see pluses to the ML kit).

Found another flathead website that seems to have more accurate information. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_specs-90to125late.htm

Testors bottle paint issues
Travis T replied to Travis T's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well I picked up a bottle of Model Master gloss black this weekend and it did indeed work much better than the regular Testors paint. I am going to investigate some of the other brands though. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions! -

Nice looking resurrection! -
Certain reissues of the old AMT 66 Mustang have some nice correct 67-68 Shelby ten spoke wheels, better than the 68 Shelby kit came with anyway. I know the reissue with the dark blue Mustang with orange and yellow stripes on the box has them. The broken one in your picture has curved spokes making it right for a 66 Shelby.

Those colors are awesome, making me rethink mine. I was going to go for two tone blue, with the darker color where the white is on your truck. May just have to use your colors in reverse, very nice!
