What do you listen to while you build???
STYRENE-SURFER replied to slusher's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I was able to see this guy play in MPLS, found this you tube video. Not for the faint of heart jazz enthusiast, he's an outsider. You're styrene may start to warp a bit. Nice performance by some excellent players. -
MPC Jolly Roger

Mark, Thanx for the info. I was curious about this kit and the lack of online information about it. It seems like this one was not produced long and is now lost. Would like to find one to add it to my future FOMOCO build pile. Yes, George Montgomery never raced this car that MPC bankrolled. Yet they still managed to mangle as a kit. -

Another SUBURBS tune, this one made it to the 80's dance floor charts and I still like it. -

Dave. Nice work on that, I know I have seen pictures of your build while researching Maverick funny cars.I wonder what kit came first, the Jolly Roger or the Multi-Maverick? -
This car(pic) was found on the side label of my recently acquired Winged Express kit. It appears to have the same body as the "Multi-Maverick" kit sans the overly large hood scoop but does have the same separate front quarter panels. Also looks like the chassis was completely different. Not much can be found as far as pics on the web for this kit, but some parts photos shown on worth point . https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/mpc-jolly-roger-maverick-funnycar-485143652 suggest there might be a connection. Anyone know the history of this kit?

I think this type of strategy is reasonable and there are forums I visit that use the same. For some reason growing up on the internet made a lot of people feel like everything was free. Me, not so much, because I worked in a creative environment(advertising) for much of my life and have a respect for the work that goes into such endeavors.

Heres one from my MPLS youth. Some of you just might remember because it was the closest they got to popularity. Bruce "Beej" Chaney(vocalist) was a schoolmate and Hugo Halliday(Drums) lived in an apartment building at the same time I was living and working downtown Minneapolis for an department store advertising dept. -
Ive never subscribed to an digital magazine. I know they are out there and have thought about the idea. Because I follow forums on F1 racing(for example) I get some information on what is going on in that world but there is always content that is not available unless you subscribe to one of them, that is understandable. The online business model of magazines is something I have no knowledge of and probably won't save a floundering publication, or would it. Anybody here subscribe to e-zeen's?

They shoot horses, don't they?
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Oh, here is a pic of the motor mount so far, needs some fine tuning or perhaps a complete re-do, I'm still on the fence on this. -

Recently found on the internet, this photo from James Handy photography (check out his website for lots of vintage drag cars)this pic pretty much confirms the color the car was painted. https://jameshandyphotography.zenfolio.com/p640330804 ( go to pic#69-144 ) Unfortunately all my models and hobby supplies/equipment are being boxed up for a move into a TINY house (downsizing)just waiting for the owner to get a job transfer. It will be awhile before I can get back to this project. Here is a link to James Handy Photography,http://jameshandyphotography.com -
Ha, yes it is kinda sacrilegious. Maybe I could use a Porsche speedster body and call it "Borschs' Porsche"

sorry to hear that, guess the search goes on for the artillery wheels. I just received this kit. Absolutely complete all but 4 or 5 parts still on the sprue's even the decals are in nice shape. Jo-Han (GC-3100) don't know what year it was produced. It does have a barcode on the box.

Tips for shipping built models
STYRENE-SURFER replied to JayVee's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
The batting shown is not like the stuff cotton balls are made of, it is some kind of spun polyester. It's very light weight and springy enough to suspend the model within the inside of a box. It' definitely not Christmas decorating snow. -
Tips for shipping built models
STYRENE-SURFER replied to JayVee's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I received this built up kit in a cardboard box completely surrounded with what I believe is batting for stuffing pillows. It did do the job of protecting a relatively fragile model, though there was some shreds of the stuff that need to be picked or blown off. I keep it stored in the same way in a plastic bin. (sorry for the overly large pic) -
Now that is ingenious, I was thinking something much more complicated like mounting them in a milling machine.
-
Fantastic start, I was thinking of using this chassis for a Jo-Han Maverick build. Probably not the best idea though. I'll be following this project.

J.C., nice improvement on those valve covers. Could I ask what technique/tools did you use to enlarge those spark plug notches? And thanx for sharing that image from the Holman Moody book, I'll have find a copy.

Took my 11 year old Toyota Rav4 to the dealership to have to have the rusted out exhaust replaced. About $1800 parts/labor. No parts in the shop for the fix so they had them overnighted. They gave me a shuttle home and would pick me up the following day when the car was ready. Ok so far. The next day got the shuttle back to the dealership and the guy at service department flat out REFUSED to take my money! He said it was some kinda warranty recall BS.

B. No, I am bored with the look of typical chopped rod w/modern drive train, rims, tire treatment.(resto-mod). A. Gets my vote, but just barely. And only because it is not the usual rusty or fake patina thing that has been popular for too long. If I had to own ether one though, that would be different. (B) At least some things like the color could be changed, and wheels, tires etcetera.

What did you see on the road today?
STYRENE-SURFER replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw this today, Talked to the owner who just purchased it here in Boise and plans to DRIVE it all the way to South Carolina where he lives. Just think of this thing on the road during winter. CRAZY. He had to lift a leg to gas it up -
Some talk on car movies.
STYRENE-SURFER replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Watching Planes,Trains & Automobiles... That '68 Bonneville Taxi, "Doobby's Taxiola" would be an interesting movie build. Completely forgot about that scene in the film. https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_30854-Pontiac-Bonneville-26239-1968.html
