Micro Balloons questions.
STYRENE-SURFER replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you are going to use that 30 minute epoxy mixed with micro balloons I would say from my experience building giant scale R.C. war birds that you will end up with a tough to work with gummy situation. I strongly suggest you use a much slower cure epoxy. West Sytem 101-TS is what I use (its a two packet they sell, about 16.5 ml of epoxy) or if you have an RC related hobby store near you Zap Z-poxy Finishing resin. -
They shoot horses, don't they?
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Well, I am still working on this one. It's been a long time because I had to put the family estate up for sale last spring and packed up all my model stuff to show the house. Now Im half way across the country in Idaho and have begun working on it again. Still looking for those unavailible Algon injection parts and just got a possible lead on some "Souza Bros." decals. Crossing my fingers. Yah, another old thread drug up from the past. -
What brand of vise do you prefer

Thanx, I think I will go with a Pana-Vise. -

Thanx Rat-t... So do you think it is worthwile for the Panavise 301 standard for $49.49 @ Amazon.com? https://www.amazon.com/Panavise-301-PanaVise-Standard/dp/B0002BC1AY/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1522382196&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=panavise+350&psc=1 Or do you have a different one? -
OK, so i am a machinist by trade so I am super picky about tolerances and quality of the tools I purchase.Have ordered at least three different vises, one from Amazon (turned out to be a Chinese facsimile of an object shaped like a vise)LOL and two from Micro-Mark that where not much better. As I said I'm sorta picky, just looking for something that clamps evenly and accurately.I'm looking at the Panavise, afraid it may just another junk product.Has anyone got one purchased one of these, and how do you like it?

Pam Hardy tribute/phantom car project
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Good idea Snake, I'm also thinking of doing the lettering outline with an other color than black. A contrasting color, different than the ones J.J. used. Of course I'm going to have to do some art work and find someone who can make the decals. "Jungle Pam" -
Is there a source for this decal set
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanx Steve... Those look good enough, I wonder if they are the same as the original kit. Trying to stay faithful (with a twist) to the Revell kit, not the real car. -

STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I was thinking that also. Jim also ran a red Camaro, so that made me think of some sort of lighter candy shade red. -
Got an old Revell Camaro funny car kit that I am thinking of putting together box stock with the exception of making it a "Pam" car. the question is what COLOR do you think her funny car would have been if she ran one? I'm thinking she was perhaps not a pink type of gal, but not ruling it out quite yet.

AMT Lou Azar Gremlin Funny
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Well, it looks like I have a line on a glue-boom "crazy Horse" if all goes well. A sealed kit is going for around $200 these days. Every time I try to start a new build I end up in this predicament. When all the pieces are rounded up I will have to start a thread "How NOT to build a AMT Pinto Funny Car" The Gremlin body was not the reason why I bought this kit it was the chassis and other bitts that I was interested in. I did however learn how to drive a stick in my brothers V8 Gremlin (almost launched it through the neighbors garage door trying to find revers) LOL. I was young so give me a break! -

Looks those two options are rare and going for big money on eBay. I wonder what other small wheel-base bodies are out there that would fit this chassis. Would love to find a "Crazy Horse" body, just trying to make things more interesting. -

Mark... Being more of a Ford fan myself (and somewhat schizophrenic modeler} Im thinking Pinto Any idea of which AMT Pinto bodies would fit this chassis? It could be cool to build a phantom car using some of the old pro stock Pinto decals Ive seen. -

Dan... I haven't even started this build, but thanx in advance. I measured those wire wheels (.715") so about 17.9" as full size DIA. They might be a good on an early FE dragster. -

Thanx all for the info and inspirational pics. USPS delivered the kit today (kudos to Spotlight-Hobbies for super fast shipping). The most intriguing part of this model to me is the chassis, and blown 426 HEMI. The front dragster style wheel/tires are strange on a drag car like this but the spoked wheels are maybe the best moulded Ive seen, tho perhaps to small diameter. The front tires scale out to about 22" DIA. The body is quite good, it could use a stretch like has been stated, but that would require a different more modern style chassis. Hmm, maybe a re-body is in order? -

Any thoughts on this old kit would be appreciated. It appears to be not at all accurate from the pictures of the real car that I can find on-line. Is it a Jo-Han molding? My memory of this kit is rather vague, but do remember seeing it on the shelf at my LHS back in the day.

Another attempt at posting on this site
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in How To Use This Board
Well that is is good to know. Just wanted to let people know that I am still alive and now residing in Boise Id. (long story) and can't wait to get back to building. Anyone from Boise here? -
can't explain why, but I keep getting 404 error when trying to start a new thread. Hope this works.
