I thought I needed a break from my long going 40 ford project, and decided to attempt the (AMT Funny Car Mustang-GT). I know this kit is well documented here and there are many fine examples of completed models. But... What makes this horse such a pain in the AFX. OK hang on, I am going to deal with this mysterious interior tub fit first. I marked centerlines on all the parts: interior tub , body , frame , as best I could. There is nothing here as far as molded in locaters to depend on. After some careful sanding(mostly around the rear wheel arches, see picture 1and 2) the tub now fits square in the body (checked w/my height stand on granite) More to come.

I have searched for an answer to your question, the best I could come up with is using CA glue or this .WELD-ON ® 4784 Vinyl Cement. I've no experience using the weld-on, but something tells me that perhaps the CA might be a little to brittle for this kind of application. Hopefully someone here will chime in with a more definitive answer. I'm interested in how others deal w/these two piece tires.

The only thing I remember about this guy is a strange reference on a Butt hole surfers song. Was he famous for something? Sad to hear. -

Bill, thanks for correcting my terminology. I often get names, places and things mixed up. And now after rereading my own post, I can add letters of the alphabet! "Inverted W" DOH! Michael and Mark, that sounds a lot easier than what I have been attempting. What would be a good adhesive for aluminum foil? I do have a stack of foil liners for the drip pan on my grill that should work. -

Horsing Around
STYRENE-SURFER replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the idea and agree with the comments about the windshield. The engine is also just too meek, oh and that master cylinder. The car w/that cop-out flat black paint job just ruins it for me. Gary Campesi has been drawing these types of cars for years tho it is difficult to pull off these kind of cars off in full size for sure. I personally would like it more w/a paint job that says "Mustang". -
Replicating Bead Rolling
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I got my order from Tower w/.030 half round and did some experimenting. It looks quite convincing especially if the ends are carefully sanded to a radius. This works fine for straight bead rolls, but for making rounded corners it is difficult. By the way that "W" pattern I am trying to replicate is found on a 1940 ford fire wall sort of a inverted double "W". With rectangular stock you can bend it easily, w/half round not so much. I did find out one real problem I was having with the .010x.020 Evergreen strips. Under a loupe I can see that one side is very rough from apparently however they cut them. Good luck sanding these little things.:( The liner brush idea I will have to look into, but even w/a regular Tamiya bottle brush the results are looking better w/practice. -

I have several because I use them on different media. Plastic (styrene) and also metals (aluminum) and some others like (Fiber-glass, carbon fiber.) I don't expect them to last at all while cutting metal or carbon fiber but the saws that I have sett away for plastic only dull very quickly. -

I've been an Amazon prime member for over ten years and have not heard of "warehouse deals". Great you got what you were looking for. Always like to see a cool Riviera, how are you going to build it? Stock, Custom or what? -
Replicating Bead Rolling
STYRENE-SURFER replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ace... Thanx, I think it looks just OK, but like you say it needs fine tuning. I ordered some Plastruct half round .030 to try. My biggest problem is glueing such small pieces without the solvent glue damaging the surface of where it is attached. Is there some other type of glue that might work better? -
I am trying to add some detail to a mostly scratch built chassis, just to make it more visually interesting. Putting some bead rolling on the firewall and underside. Did some testing on scrap styrene ( .010 x .020 strip glued w/ thin cement). I then laid 1 layer of masking tape around the glued strips and sanded till they where even w/tape. This left a square top edge so I scrubbed the whole thing w/cleanser as an aggressive pollishing agent. At this point I was fairly happy w/how things looked. However under scrutiny, there are irregularities caused by the solvent based cement that show through. Perhaps I am going about this all wrong. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

John... The Mopar Missile is a very cool car for its time, It is hard to find good documentation for these early pro stock cars. The "wire car" is quite interesting, and some of the available info leaves me with more questions. Example- if they moved the doors forward 2 inches, did they move the cowl forward also. Possibly raking the windshield back??? For anyone who is interested, here is a link to an article on this car. http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/1312-1974-plymouth-duster-start-to-finish/ Richard... That Gaylord Gladiator I have never seen before, It is just beautiful to me with all the period styling cues that I still appreciate. Scott... Love the drawings, That "IVO'S LINCOLN SUPER BRICK" is Screaming to be built. It is interesting to hear some of the DREAM builds percolating in the minds of you all.

If you are like me, you probably think way too often about future projects, knowing you will never have time or resources to complete them. Or maybe you just don't have the correct parts in hand to build it or your research on that particular car is fruitless. Here are a few of the project ideas buzzing thru my head currently. 1) The Mopar Missile "Wire Car" 1974 plymouth pro stock car. Never raced but a very cool car nonetheless. 2) "Tyrrell-ible T" Just an idea I had for a six wheeled T-bucket custom with a formula 1 theme. 3) "horn-Dog" A Tom Daniel model car mash-up. This one I may be able to start, tho using the Sand Shark body parts. So what's on your idea list of cars you WISH you could start?
