1970 Ford Torino Twister Special
my name is nobody replied to Mr. Can Am Garage's topic in Model Cars
Um, close but no cigar. These cars were Sold EAST of the Rocky Mountains. The Kansas Ford dealers wanted something to draw in foot traffic, more specifically, The Kansas City Area Ford Dealers. and approached Ford with the idea of an option along the lines of the California Specials and the High Country Specials of the previous couple of years. Now, From records I have seen, 100 -Mach 1 1970 Mustangs, and 100- Ford Cobra Torinos were built. That being said, of the 100- Mach 1's, only about fifty were built with the 428 CJ motors, due to them being scarce, the rest had 351 Cleveland 4 barrel motors. ALL the Mach 1's were painted Grabber Orange. The Torino's were painted Vermillion, and were 429 Cars. The question's now arise on if these Torino's were cobra jet, or Super cobra jet 429's. I have seen only Super Cobra Jet Cars. We had a '70 Twister Mach 1 in my hometown in Colorado, but it was owned by a college kid who moved to town, and it was a 351C Mach 1. But all the graphics and stuff were intact, as this was the early seventies. not many people were cloning them at that time, if any. Beautiful Model by the way, I'm building one right now, with Fred Cady decals, to display next to my twister Mach 1 replica. -
Finally, My dream build... A 1970 AMX!

Beautiful. always loved those little Kenosha brawlers. First car I ever rode in that had nitrous injection was a '70 AMX. That car would scoot. Looking forward to seeing your street machine. -
Dealing with snowy weather
my name is nobody replied to Simon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm actually north of I-80, as it runs through Wyoming. were closer to I-90, and yes, it do snow around here. However, this accumulation is due to drifting snow, A bad blizzard with 75 mph winds. and this was a few years ago. We didnt get any Hurricane relief funds or anything. working for the county road crew afforded me many opportunities just like this. -
Nice Car! .....er,......uh,....Truck,.......er,......uh, Great Model! Really a beautiful looking vehicle. and I love that Silver/Black combination. The wheel & tire combo looks great with this design.

Please allow me to show you: Greetings from Montana, USA. -
Beautiful Model. All it's Missing is a Guy behind the wheel, chomping on a cigar, with a determined expression on his face.

Best/Worst Winter Vehicles!
my name is nobody replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The best snow vehicles? Well, I just bought a '09 Hummer H3, and yesterday I drove thru some scary stuff driving all the way from Colorado home to Montana, and it handled the slick/icy roads wonderfully. I have owned several ZR-2 GM S series pickups, and they NEVER left me stranded. and I've had them in situations that most people would just curl up and go fetal, probably crying. Just traded in my latest one on the Hummer H3. Had a '74 CJ 5 Jeep that would climb a wall if I aimed for it. climbed an ice covered clear cut mountain in Colorado with it one time looking for a bathroom outside of Central City Colorado. didnt know I had an audience from a casino watching the whole event, until my wife and I were going in, and the crowd outside were talking about the maniac who just went UP the side of the mountain. my wife still smiles about that story. or the time I ran into a traffic jam in the streets of Denver during a blizzard, the streets were blocked, 2-3 feet of snow on the streets, people involved in the accident were fighting and crying about the situation, I jumped out of my Jeep, Locked in the hubs and drove up into some peoples yards and drove around the whole mess. Worst Vehicles in the snow? My '70 Dodge Super Bee (440/ 4 speed) with L60-15 rear tires was just worthless. Any moisture on the roadway made it a white knuckle thrill ride. Of course, if you dumped the clutch on dry pavement, sometimes it was a white knuckle thrill ride, too. -
A Beautiful build. I havent even thought of this car in a long, long time. wicked barracuda.

This is rather dumb!

Cadillac, Cadillac, Cadillac Car, we aint as dumb as you think we is. -
The first Model I ever built was a replica of Bob Riggle's "Hemi Under Glass" Barracuda. it has long since been sacrificed to the styrene gods. This one However, was a close second, and I still own it: and all the pieces are still there. of course, How could they not be, its a glue bomb. But its a glue bomb thats been with me for almost four decades now.

AWESOME! The most detailed 1/25 scale Mach 1 I think I have ever seen. great color, nice stance, and with opening panels? Almost over the top.

Very Nice Job. And a terrific looking Truck.

Which 70 Chevelle SS is better?
my name is nobody replied to Dante's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've built both. And The Monogram is a better looking kit. Just recently picked up the Baldwin/Motion Monogram Kit, and I'm already looking forward to building it..................... as soon as I get the other dozen kits I'm currently working on finished. -

Thats Tough looking. reminds me of the old Montana Highway Patrol Cars. Great Build up. -
Beautiful Build. I'm very partial to the Starliner Bodystyle. My favorite is the 1961, and someday I'll find a 1:1 to build. Your '60 is a really clean, well built model. And Top Shelf, too. I had a chance to study a '61 Starliner Belonging to a Ford Engineer named Jack Veermersch (Spelling?) anyway, on the the 1998 Hot Rod Power Tour. an awesome example, made all the more awesome by the fact it was running a 427 S.O.H.C under the hood. The 1:1 cars are so wide, its amazing. your build up is a beautiful Model.

I'm partial to the monogram / revell stuff. The 1970 Mustang Sport roof in all of its versions. The 1967 Corvette Big Block (coupe or Roadster). The 1970 Torino Cobra / Torino GT. The 1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee. The 1969 Dodge Dart GTS. Have loads of these stashed away, and never hesitate to buy a few when I stumble upon them. my interest is mainly muscle cars, and these kits build into nice replicas. -

Ford 427 FE Big Block - AMT - '66 Fairlane 427. Oldsmobile 455 - AMT - '69 Hurst/Olds. Buick 455 - Monogram - '70 GSX. Chevy 427 - Revell - '67 Corvette (Coupe or Roadster). Well, I'll tell ya, that was one of the first kits I ever assembled, and I still have it. being young, dumb, and in-experienced helped. well, that, and a neighbour had one during the "Chrysler lets the public drive one around before we crush them experiment." ( I think their were fifty? or so that the company loaned out.) The sound of that turbine at 22,000 rpm gave me chills. I assembled mine way, way back. But Nothing about it stands out as a complete turd. The opening doors, hood, trunk were fun, as were the seats, and it didnt turn out as clean as your build. I still think that AMT's '69 Chevelle SS396 is a complete waste of fossil fuel. Now, I 'm gonna have to dig that old turbine out.

P-38 Belly tankracer
my name is nobody replied to oldschool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dont know about any models, But I dont have to go very far to see the belly tank, anyway. My father in law had one in his junkpile. I asked for it, and was told to take it if I want it. So now its sitting up in my barn, its incredibly light, and maybe someday I'll make a Salt Flats car out of it. have the flathead out of my old '53 Ranchwagon.................. -
I like this car. the '71's were a love 'em or hate 'em bodystyle. having owned a '71 GTX, I like them. The rear end is actually about the right height. at least my air shocks carried mine this high at about 110 psi. This is a sweet, clean build. and I thought it was a monogram '71 Satellite at first glance. Great Looking Model.

Thanks, it does look okay. and displays well enough. but the grille required alot of work, getting the taillights to fit correctly took some doing, had to filch some high back bucket seats from the parts box, gauges, aftermarket decal......etc.etc. Sad too. Because this is one of my very favorite Musclecar offerings from GM in a 1:1 And the wonder of it all, as popular as the 1:1 's were..............No one has yet to offer a decent kit of this car.
