Me? Doing a Ford? Nahhh!!!! Really? (LeMans Ford GT)
Jhedir6 replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice progress so far Ismael. On the rear of the chassis the fins at the bottom of the aluminum support are suppose to be red, pending on which year you're doing the red will vary. You're right, box stock so far..... -
Got mine today too. Should be at home shortly. Now I have to decide what colour to go with?

Cause you're doing it box stock, right? There's a lot of room in the lower part of the engine bay so you can add detail without too many issues. The top half is pretty packed tho. But you're right, nothing is visible through the window cause of the intake box. -

Looking good. Ismael, here's a link to a Hot Rod article on the Ford GT race prep for the 2016 Sebring race. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/exclusive-inside-the-ganassi-racing-ford-gt/?fbclid=IwAR31CBY0S1ssxbhCd1QjWjb6CAGbrPBkw0waAkmbq7LAphzDzfvcoxcGcgI -
Very nice Randy. Makes me want to pick one up now. Yellow's not my favourite colour but it does look good on these Mustangs.

Nice progress Ismael. For the roll cage. if you pre assemble and then paint it you can still fit it over the interior tub. I found that the rollcage is a PITA to assemble once painted. The location points aren't engineered very well, definitely not like a Tamiya kit. -

A Ford? Someone fell down and hit their head. Don't worry Ismael, this is a much better kit than the C7R. Yes, it's got some issue, but again a lot less than the C7R. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it. -

The white livery is only for the Roar testing apparently. I'd like to see them run it, but heard a rumor it was just for Daytona testing. Looks great in white. If I may, take some clear glue and fill in the mirrors over and over till its built up then colour it silver, will make them look a lot better than the holes.

The Roar Before the 24 is on today, so I'll be watching and working on wrapping up my second Ford GT. This is the 2017 Le Mans second place finisher. OOB build with extra decals from Powerslide on the wheels and roof decal from the 2016 Le Mans sheet I have. Paint is Gravity Colors red/white/blue on the body and OZ gun metal on the wheels with Scale Finishes blacks on the chassis.

I think this is one of those rules that gets "glossed over" I see trunk racks on a lot of the cars that probably didn't come with them. You HAVE to car a certain amount of gear with you and you need to store it somewhere. I think as long as it looks like it was something that would have existed during the era of the car you'll be ok. Rob will have to have the final word, but I see lots of those pre 40s car with mods that wouldnt have been done in era. I think fabing one out of metal tubing would be in the spirit of the rally as opposed to a Thule luggage rack and carrier on the roof.

I love the gas cans, but do you need them? I've not noticed any pics of cars carrying them. My understanding is the stages are measured out between stations as I've seen pics and videos of the cars mid stage filling up at gas stations (which also become hopspots for locals to get some photos of the cars). Also there are the ERA support trucks which I assume carry gas if needed.

I'll be in for this years run, but I'll be getting a later start. Probably not till March as January and February are looking pretty busy. Converting the COE truck into a van will take more time then I'll likely have so I'll be going with something based off of this Jimmy Flintstone '61-67 Ford Econoline van. I'll start ordering my parts soon. Good luck to all and looking forward to seeing what gets created. Happy New Year.

Tamiya: Toyota TS050 Hybrid Le Mans 2018
Jhedir6 replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yup yup yup...... Only makes sense that they did this. With the 1/32 and the 1/10th RC done, I was surprised this wasnt the kit announcement from the Tamiya Toy Fair. Also with it being the first Japanese manufacturer win at Le Mans since the Mazda 787b I'm not surprised they're making it. I'll be doing at least one.......heck, who am I kidding I'm sure I'll get more than one. -
I live in Canada and I buy from BNA all the time (usually from their Ebay store, but its the same place) even with shipping to Canada from Australia the prices are reasonable and shipping times are about 12-14 days. Plus they carry a wide range of stuff. Hobby Design seats are great and the Eduard PE seat belt sets are awesome, that's what I'm using in my Mustang.

Im not really a van guy but I found something that interested me. So if this would qualify I think I'd go this route. It wont be till a good way into the New Year for me to start on this cause I'd have to track down the items needed but If it's allowed I think I'll try to swing it after the start of February. Thoughts and approval welcome. Thanks.

Erik, I was gonna do a second car and told Rob I'd use #71 on it, but I've since decided Im probably not going to have time to do a second kit after all. So, if you'd like a nice set of the decals Pete J produced PM me your mailing address and I'll send the #71 decals to you. Oh, and Pete, thanks again for the decals they look great.

Basically finished. I need to add in some antennas yet. Revell Ford GT Le Mans kit done in Gravity Colors Ford GT Blue/Red and Titanium White. and OZ Gun Metal on the wheels. Chassis is done with Scale Finishes black and flat black basecoats. Clear is Pro Form automotive clear. Decals are mostly kit decals but I did have to use few from a set I got off Ebay for the ones missing from the Revell set for the 2016 car. I also used the dayglow yellow round decals on the roof from the Revell Ford Fusion kits ( these are missing from the Revell sheet). As far as assembly goes it's a pretty straight forward build. My one gripe is the roll cage. I had issues getting the pieces to connect up, definitely not on par with say Tamiya Fujimi or Aoshima on the engineering on these parts. Even though its a lower part count kit (88 pcs) the amount of detail is actually quite nice. Full engine with separate A arms for the suspension. The front and rear suspension mounts have lots of detail as well. Nice detail on the interior ( much better than the C7R and lots of little detail decals as well) make this a much better kit than many would expect. It still has the metal axles but TBH they're almost completely invisible once assembled and Revell actually got the ride height on this kit spot on. The glass pieces are pre painted which is nice. The decals are crisp and clear. I did have some some issue with a few of the decals not adhering to the paint but not sure if that was me or the decals since it was only a couple. The white decals on the front vent inlets didnt lay down as well as I would have liked so on the next one I'll paint those. They are nice and opaque tho so they cover the blue easily. Another issue, not a huge one but there none the less, is the large dome on the roof. It's a roof cam for IMSA and IS NOT correct the Le Mans cars. This should have bee done as a separate part. Also there are no antennas included in the kit, not a big deal but would have been nice to have. I would have like to have seen Revell add in some photo etch for some of the grills and seatbelt hardware. For the price, this is a very nice kit. With a little extra it will be a great kit. For those wanting extras, Decalcas has a detail set for this kit already in the works. New wheels and tire, steering wheel and some other parts. Fola at Slotfabrik is working on decals for the IMSA cars and so is Michael from Indycals and I'm sure more will follow. For now, a couple pics. Comments and criticisms always welcome.

Nice start. I agree with Alex, either use a darker shade or a darkened mix of the base colour or something like Tamiya panel line accent. Or take your black and thin it out to the consistency of water and let it flow through the lines rather than just painting them.
-
Rolling chassis almost complete. I need to add in the top roll bar and then do some touch ups. I also have to add the decals to the side diffusers as well. Almost done with the body decals then I can get it off to clear. So far the kit has gone together quite well, but I'm not real happy with the engineering of the roll cage, the mounting points for connecting them arent very good and need to be better on future kits, other wise everything else isnt too bad. There are a ton of decals on this kit, way more than you'd think looking at the outside of the car, lots of tiny decals on the interior.
-
Interesting. Doesnt seem like you can buy direct like you can from Revell Germany. They had some nice sales on in the past, was hoping to see that come from the USA site, guess it could still happen.

I ordered online from the UK. Hiroboy and another FB vendor.

Sorry Ismael, this is the 2017 car with the 2017 decals. I have a set of 2016 decals I picked up off of ebay (I'll add a pic of the decal set later on) I think they actually might have been test decals from Revell cause they're actually die cut and not just printed on a single sheet of decal paper. They're a bit thinner (less opaque) than the kit decals. I'm mixing the two sheets to make it as close to the 2016 car. I'm going to have to touch up a few spots where the decal isnt big enough but shouldnt be too noticeable at the end cause I'm going to weather it up a bit. I agree tho, no idea why Revell would do the 2017 car when the 2016 car won it's class and the box art kind of hints that the car won with the checkered flag. I also dont understand why Ford wouldnt insist on the 2016 car, but hey, maybe it's just me. They also got the roof wrong, the big pod on the roof, I removed it, is an IMSA transponder I believe, and is not correct for Le Mans. It should have been a part to add on if you wanted an IMSA car. Also there are no antenna's included, another small oversight. I still think Revell and other companies should be using people who build kits as part of their development team and can point out things like this.

Getting it done. Lots of little decals still to go.
