Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Very nicely done from the pictures I've seen. The interior looks great. So when is this going into the Under Glass Section?

Need Airbrush Advice Please
Brendan replied to Harvezter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A couple of questions; Do you know what type of airbrush you have? Also do you have hoses and attachment for that airbrush? The reason why I'm asking that if you want to try to keep it under $100 and if you already have those parts, you're better off getting just the airbrush itself that will fit those components. There are set, though, that have everything you need in them except for the compressor and you can get them for under $100. One of my favorites is Pasche VL Double Action. I just had to replace mine not too long ago...one I've had for over 25 years. As for the gravity fed, they are nicer than the bottom feed, but will cost you quite a bit more. If you do get a gravity feed, make sure you get one that has removable cups. Here's the web site that I used to buy my airbrush. They are a good company and have decent prices. http://www.coastairbrush.com/categories.asp?cat=10 -
Got the taping lines marked down so I can figure out where the gold paint goes. Spent a couple of hours just on this. Not my favorite thing to do. One side of the car is a little off from the other side. They're not a mirror image of each other. One side is off by a .5 mm to 1 mm. I've run into this problem on other Profil 24 kits. Not an issue unless laying down striping. Here's the pictures of the body with the tape lines.

I think your best bet would be to look up rally racing sites, also look for off-road racing and hill climbing web sites. Pike's Peak is just too specific. Hope this helps.

I have the perfect paint job for your next Ferrari. Pepto Bismal Pink with Metallic Orange Rally stripes. For sure, nobody would have that car. You would never see that paint scheme on a 1:1 car.

My favorite of the Tamiya's NSX race cars. I have built three of this car and every time I had one done, a friend wanted it. Can't wait to see how yours looks after it gets finished.

What's the deal with all the odd colors on the Ferraris? First it was gold and now it's orange. Very nicely done. I built two of these cars and the fit is excellent.

Well, finally got the body painted. Now I just need to paint the gold. It's a really, really dark navy blue. Couldn't find any paint that would come close so I ended up mixing my own. I used Tamiya's TS-14 Black and Tamiya's TS-15 Blue in a 2:7 ratio of black to blue. It's a little bit flat so after I get the gold laid down, I'll lay down several coats of gloss. Here's some pictures. The picture underneath is one of the few reference photos that I have of the actual colors.

I think the issues with the decals for my kit were caused by the way they were stored at the place from where I bought the kit. The place gets very hot and very cold, which could have caused the issues with the decals. I've had this happen with Tamila's decals with quite a few of their older kits. As soon as I dipped it in the water, hairline cracks showed up everywhere and then the decal falls apart. The setting solution doesn't even help. But I've had good luck with Tamiya sending replacement decals at no charge so I'm pretty sure they know about this issue. But I was able to make mine work with the two sets I had. The white decal was my biggest issue on the engine cover. You can see that some of the black on the border of the white is kind of wavy. Tried to hand paint it in as best as I could. Thanks for everyone taking a look.

The site looks good. I also have told quite a few people about it so hopefully I'm sending you some business.

Two-tone colors; which to use for masking.

I use 3M line tape. It's like Tamiya's tape but comes in thinner widths. If I'm going over a lot of edging or round shapes, that's what it's good for and for compound corners. And then I use the Tamiya for filling in. If you're worried about paint leaking underneath the tape, shoot a layer of clear over the top of your tape and it will seal it. -
Thanks for the comments. This is the second I built. The first one I did use the Marlboro decals and convert it into the 2002 car that they ran at the beginning of the season. I ended up giving it away. Now I wish I hadn't.

This is the Tamiya's F-2001. The kit was decent but the decals sucked. Had to get replacements for them from the manufacturer and still had problems with their cracking as soon as they were dipped in the water. But I made it work. I did this for a friend who is a BIG Micheal Schumacher fan and a Ferrari fan. Mixed up a batch of pink paint for the undercoat and primer. Then shot Tamiiya's TS-49 Red over the top through an airbrush. I have some slight issues of warpage with the rear engine cover, which I tried to straighten out as much as possible. Feel free to comment.

Ferrari F430 GT Risi by Studio 27
Brendan replied to JHDrew's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had really good luck getting Studio 27 kits from Mark at M & S Hobbies. If he doesn't have the kits listed, email him about the kit you want and he'll try to get it for you. Also I've had good luck with Kevin from Strata Sports. http://www.mshobbies.com/servlet/StoreFront http://www.stradasports.com/ -
Probably the best series was the old Firestone/Firehawk Series. They would have somewhere close to 60 to 70 cars out on the race track. It would be like a four hour event. It was a support race for IMSA.

Since you're going to be doing this car, I'm going to have to be doing the Lizard car. Scale Productions has come out with the decal sheet. It looks like it will fit onto the Profil 24 Porsche. http://www.stradasportsstore.com/page86.html It's at the bottom of the page. -
Anyone has instructions on doing Noah's Ark?
Brendan replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You Wuss. Try living in Oregon in the Banana Belt. During the winter, we get several months of non-stop rain. We get sometimes 13 to 14 inches in an hour. We also get 100 mph wind gusts. -
The other big issue is trying to find sponsorships. Like what's been happening with the Speed Touring Cars is that Mazda is the main sponsor. So the series gives the advantage to the Mazda powered cars. It all comes down to money.
-
We do have touring car series. Just that most of them are not televised. The Speed Touring Cars are the only ones that are televised, but SCCA have some and so does some other governing bodies have a series. They're out there but they're not very popular here. People are more interested in the GT Racing.

Nice job on the kit. Like I said before, this is the best one I've seen of these built up.
-
It's a decent kit, but the decals are junk. I build this one a long time ago. Glad you were able to get this kit.

It's a Lola B01/60 (MG EX 257). Ran an ARE Turbo Inline 4 2.0L with a 43 mm Restrictor.

I think a cotton candy machine blew up in there. Is the guy all right?
