  1. All it needs now is some foil on the vent window. Nice paint job Gregg, what did you paint it with?
  2. That's the nicest I've ever seen that Monogram based 'Stang look. Kudos. I'd host that on my shelf anytime.
  3. I have never had one, but I have seen them. First off, it was engineered by Pyro Plastics in the mid 1950's. It has a generally crude, multi pieced body (predated the multi-piece sliding insert molds pioneered by George Toteff of AMT models.) That said, as far as Auburn Speedsters go, I think it is the only game in town. Highly accurate it isn't, but it's still kind of neat.
  4. It's for the shelf, not for actual driving. You don't need to fit into it. Pretty sure that Actually fitting into the car in scale was going to be a concern, they wouldn't have reissued it. In other news, I got me a "Catch the Kat" issue last night molded in metal flake blue.
  5. Nice Decnals tho.
  6. I'm liking that in red, I've got a few of those waiting on getting built myself. One of these days!
  7. Is this what became of the MPC Dodge Challenger kit?
  8. Went to mine yesterday, and they were totally cleaned out of all their on sale stuff. Too bad - they had some great stuff on sale. 5.99-6.99. No good if it's not in stock though.
  9. I was at Goodguys in Des Moines last weekendm and I thought of the Speedwagon when I saw this car.... I believe it's a 30-31 Model A with a Chevy radiator shell.
  10. Headlight lenses are on upside down, Kinda neat to see one built up with the stock headlights tho. Real one has the smaller ones.
  11. The original issue of the 61 and 62 Corvettes had separate headlight bezels and lenses that were much closer to correct (tho not perfect.) (See step D). When the 62 was re-issued, the opening trunk was molded shut, and some really poorly done headlight bezels were molded into the body.
  12. Holy Paul Hettick, Batman! That is a drop dead gorgeous model. My hat is off to you, my friend. Outstanding job.
  13. The small block Chevy motor doesn't bother me a bit, even though I'm actually a Ford man. It's easy to swap out an engine if you don't like it. It's inaccuracies in the body that make for the hard work. My vote is leave the engine as is, but for gad sake, let's put in a firewall that we don't have make excuses for. And 32 Ford roof insert? Since when is wrong OK? Anyway, as you can see below, Revell was able to get it right in the past, they can do it right this time too.
  14. Actually, no. The firewall on the kit is not even close. The old Monogram kits had it right, the old Revell sedan/woody had it right. This one is way off. Compare: Compare the above to the real car below. The leading edges of the firewall are rounder, and it comes almost all the way out to the edges of the cowl. The firewall looks almost like a continuation of the cowl. Revell has some serious fixing to do on that piece. And, just because it is so cool, a little inspiration...
  15. I hope they tweak that firewall some. The edges are way square, and it's on the smallish side. I'd still like to see a 30-31 A roadster. The coupe has already been done in 1/24th. But I still see some future purchases here...
  16. It's a great body style that you don't see enough of. The shame about this kit and its pickup truck sister is that it came out during the bad era for Monogram design that brought us the miss-shapen 56-57 Chevys and some other poorly proportioned kits. The hood is too tall and square, the roof isn't as bad as the pick-up, but still isn't great. I'd probably section one of these down to fit the AMT cab front. Hey Revell-Monogram, how about a panel version of your 48 F-1 Pickup?
  17. Another "Me too",... It looks great!
  18. I don't have one handy (Many of my model kits are in storage) but I seem to remember an unplated version of the straight axle that was in the Nomad kits. (Maybe it was in one of the Nomad reissues?)
  19. What's not in the kit that was on the box art? I just built the thing the way they told me to, I think I got to pick the color. They weren't as bad about inaacurate box art in 90-91 as they got a few years later. But that was after my time.
  20. I actually built the box art build that you see on the top and ends of the box. (The late Charlie Nance built the white gasser shown on the box side.) I actually substituted the Nomad hood for the one that came in the kit (was easier to "nose" it, and it fit better than the kit piece.) I don't recall any problem areas with the assembly, altho I recommend cutting new side windows out thin clear plastic for a better interior fit and appearance. I learned that when I built a stock sedan for myself. (Back in the day, AMT/Ertl's box art builds were built without any window glass - it was air-brushed in later.) Come to think of it, so were the bucket seats. The box art build used the old custom buckets from the Nomad, as the high-backs weren't tooled up yet. The car looks pink on the box, but was actually painted with Pactra Odds N Ends Lavender.
  21. Not a problem, Greg. All good.
  22. Greg, I don't mind people using my photos, but I appreciate photographic credit being given. I took several shots (including this one) of this car at Goodguys in Des Moines in 2013.
  23. I went to visit the Modelhaus website tonight, and found the following message: The Modelhaus Website is down temporarily. While our site was originally down for routine maintenance, that has changed. We have experienced the tragic death of our youngest child, our 32 year old son Steven. Please be patient with us as we take time to mourn and somehow put our lives back together. We trust God, but sometimes do not understand. My condolences and prayers go out to Don and Carol Holthaus. http://herald-review.com/lifestyles/announcements/obituaries/holthaus-steven-andrew/article_4d422ee1-100c-55bf-8fa4-4f539d8d10b3.html
  24. Wow, talk about Deja Vu! I started this exact same same conversion 25 years ago, using the Revell Skip's Fiesta kit and an 80's molded in red issue of the 62. Got as far as you see here pretty quickly, but then over complication-itus crept in, with all kinds of grandious plans of extra detail.... Like a better chassis, steerable wheels, etc... Just kind of holdong the AMT grille in place behind the combination AMT and Revell bumper.... Kinda like it better than the photo-etched pieces. I'll be watching your progress. Maybe one of these days I'll get back to busy on mine!
  25. No shortage of them at Hobby Lobby. Nope, there isn't anything wrong with this kit. Probably out of stock, and time to shuffle the product line.
