  1. It's a great body style that you don't see enough of. The shame about this kit and its pickup truck sister is that it came out during the bad era for Monogram design that brought us the miss-shapen 56-57 Chevys and some other poorly proportioned kits. The hood is too tall and square, the roof isn't as bad as the pick-up, but still isn't great. I'd probably section one of these down to fit the AMT cab front. Hey Revell-Monogram, how about a panel version of your 48 F-1 Pickup?
  2. Another "Me too",... It looks great!
  3. I don't have one handy (Many of my model kits are in storage) but I seem to remember an unplated version of the straight axle that was in the Nomad kits. (Maybe it was in one of the Nomad reissues?)
  4. What's not in the kit that was on the box art? I just built the thing the way they told me to, I think I got to pick the color. They weren't as bad about inaacurate box art in 90-91 as they got a few years later. But that was after my time.
  5. I actually built the box art build that you see on the top and ends of the box. (The late Charlie Nance built the white gasser shown on the box side.) I actually substituted the Nomad hood for the one that came in the kit (was easier to "nose" it, and it fit better than the kit piece.) I don't recall any problem areas with the assembly, altho I recommend cutting new side windows out thin clear plastic for a better interior fit and appearance. I learned that when I built a stock sedan for myself. (Back in the day, AMT/Ertl's box art builds were built without any window glass - it was air-brushed in later.) Come to think of it, so were the bucket seats. The box art build used the old custom buckets from the Nomad, as the high-backs weren't tooled up yet. The car looks pink on the box, but was actually painted with Pactra Odds N Ends Lavender.
  6. Not a problem, Greg. All good.
  7. Greg, I don't mind people using my photos, but I appreciate photographic credit being given. I took several shots (including this one) of this car at Goodguys in Des Moines in 2013.
  8. I went to visit the Modelhaus website tonight, and found the following message: The Modelhaus Website is down temporarily. While our site was originally down for routine maintenance, that has changed. We have experienced the tragic death of our youngest child, our 32 year old son Steven. Please be patient with us as we take time to mourn and somehow put our lives back together. We trust God, but sometimes do not understand. My condolences and prayers go out to Don and Carol Holthaus. http://herald-review.com/lifestyles/announcements/obituaries/holthaus-steven-andrew/article_4d422ee1-100c-55bf-8fa4-4f539d8d10b3.html
  9. Wow, talk about Deja Vu! I started this exact same same conversion 25 years ago, using the Revell Skip's Fiesta kit and an 80's molded in red issue of the 62. Got as far as you see here pretty quickly, but then over complication-itus crept in, with all kinds of grandious plans of extra detail.... Like a better chassis, steerable wheels, etc... Just kind of holdong the AMT grille in place behind the combination AMT and Revell bumper.... Kinda like it better than the photo-etched pieces. I'll be watching your progress. Maybe one of these days I'll get back to busy on mine!
  10. No shortage of them at Hobby Lobby. Nope, there isn't anything wrong with this kit. Probably out of stock, and time to shuffle the product line.
  11. Is the blue one a Revell also?
  12. Holy cow, that's nice, Steve!
  13. Yes. AMT's compact tires from at least 50 years ago.
  14. I'm shocked that those God-awful Rally GTs are back. Worst tire ever put in an AMT model kit. Possibly in any model kit. Rest of the kit looks good though...
  15. I agree with Dave Metzner on the taillights. I always regretted AMT taking the 49 Mercury taillights off the chrome tree and molding them in the clear red. Good luck getting nice chrome trim on those odd shaped roundy-round pieces! As much as I like clear red taillight lenses, occasionally, they just don't work. I usually use Testors 1104 Dark Red for my lenses. It's just translucent enough that one coat usually gives you a very realistic lense. Sometimes I'll spray Testors 1204 in a paint lid, and flow that in. Works great on small detailed lenses. Anyway, I think Mobius has another hit on their hands. Looking fwd to the 65 Comet!
  16. Just add an MPC Fire Truck and you've almost got a King T. Kinda...
  17. Those aren't Cragar wheels in the tall T version, They are Gene Winfield's "Terra Thrust". Rare as hen's teeth in real life.
  18. Are you kidding? This is cool stuff. Pretty much on topic too. Well, not strictly so, but very rare and informative info and photos. I vote keep em coming.
  19. Well Ace, here is the area where I believe Art was trying to correct you. You said (Quote) "THE MODIFIED CAD FILE WOULD BE USED TO CUT AN ENTIRELY NEW TOOL FOR THE WAGON." (underline added by me.) What Art was saying is that with the multiple inserts that go into a model kit tool, some of these inserts can be interchanged out to make that SAME tool base do a station wagon, and even (I'd be surprised if they didn't) a Ranchero. I just hope they correct the splash pan and the too low hanging front fender bottoms (they should end at the base of the grille.)
  20. I agree with Bob Ellis. The Revell multi-piece is a great kit, and they practically give them away on ebay. The MPC 60 is pretty nice too, but has an interior from a 1957, and slightly inaccurate side coves. This my Revell multi-piece from the 1960 (really a '59) kit. It comes with a really nice grab bar, but mine went MIA.... Below is about everything you'd want to know about the old Revell kit... Different issues and box art, plus what's inside the box... http://public.fotki.com/dwdarby/model_cars/vintage_model_kits/revell_1959_corvette/
  21. That maroon Vicky is pretty sweet. However, it's no Deuce. It's a 31 Model A.
  22. I don't think so. If that were the case, that would make the AMT 59 1/24th scale as well. On top of that, I kitbashed one of these with an AMT '57 and the parts fit perfectly. The only thing 1/24th scale in this kit are the Monogram wheels and tires they put in the Skip's Fiesta issue,
  23. How old is that? It isn''t current, is it?
  24. Gorgeous work. You even managed to make a Monogram 56 Chevy look good!
