Make And Take Questions
crispy replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ismael, I helped out a local pack leader with the same thing. He purchased the AMT Make and Takes and I believe the price last year for them was $40-$50. Unfortunately I don't think you can get any from AMT. Revell offers the Impala police car as well as the snap planes they offer. I do not know how many kits come to a case for Revell. You should be able to contact a Local Hobby Shop and they can hook you up, but if you don't have one try contacting Revell directly. The kits are bagged and have no box but everything you'll need is in their. The local pack leader actually had me come to their meeting with the M&T box and actually speak about modeling. Have a Q&A with them and then hand out the kits. We let the boys go after it on their own and I walked around helping anyone with questions or difficulties. I found it to be a very good time and the pack rewarded me with their popcorn. They had a great time and I did as well. If you are purchasing through a Hobby Shop see if you can't work out a deal (a discount on the cases) since it is for a pack they might slide you a 10% or more discount with a bulk purchase like that. Also see if the LHS will make up some coupons for the kids to come back and purchase a kit. Something like 15% off. I offered this to the local pack and with the help of the LHS, was happy to see a few come back. Here is Revell's link: http://www.revell.com/Make-n-Take.make_n_take.0.html If I can help any more let me know. Chris -

Happy Birthday, Billy!!!
crispy replied to VW Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Happy Birthday Billy! They seem to come a lot faster now don't they! Chris -
Looks like a nice tidy clean build. I've noticed that each new build brings about a better quality build. You'll notice the same I'm sure. You have a nice clean technique already. Have you tried clearing and wet-sanding paint yet? That unto itself will help get the paint a lot shinier. Always remember the paint is only as good as the preparation. Look forward to your next build!! Chris

Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
crispy replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As far as holding bodies in the dehydrator, I use the Tamiya body paint stand. I bought extra rings for the dehydrator and stack them up until I know the body will clear the top of the dehydrator. -
Ajay, that's a great looking build. Those S13's are so clean and beautiful looking. They lend themselves to most styling. Yours looks great! Look forward to your finished car. Chris

COMPLETE: 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean Pontiac

WOW. The detail and work is unbelievable. Good Luck at the contest. I'm sure we'll see it in the model rags! Chris -
Hi Fred! Welcome to Model Cars! I'm going to bet you ships are a lot more work than these kits will be. As far as the chrome goes, yes, most of the time it gets used as is from the manufacturer. However their is a product called AlClad Chrome. It works best if airbrushed over Testor's gloss black, blue or a few other colors. Some guys will strip the chrome and ship it out to be re-chromed from a model chroming service. You also have your choice of Bare Metal Foil, but that is very difficult to work with on compound curves and the like. Works great for the bumpers of Rigs. If you want to get your your feet wet with a kit I would recommend the Revell Impala police car to start with. It's an easy kit, meaning snap fit parts, however it's a good enough kit that detailing would go a long way. You should be able to find that kit at most hobby shops or online. I'm not sure where to send you for just emergency kits, but if you want to just see what is available I would peruse ebay. That will give you an idea of what is out their. Chris

where do you get your models?
crispy replied to Hartness53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since our LHS closed getting the models I want is really difficult. I shop at Model Roundup, HLJ, Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart. I will, if needing some specialty items, drive the 1.5 hrs. one way to the closest hobby shop. It appears to me that the LHS's are closing faster and more frequently this year than I have ever seen before. Chris -
Great topic! I will have to say that the first one that popped into my head was my Toyota Corolla WRC car. This was a door prize I had gotten at one of the contests I attended. I wasn't into Rally cars at the time. This was the Hasegawa kit with photo-etch and a slathering of decals. I'd never done a WRC car, never done that many decals and had never worked with photo-etch until this model. Needless to say it opened a whole new world of modeling to me. I have since acquired about 3 more Rally cars. They are very interesting and quite fun to build. Here's my Corolla: The very next year I went back to the contest with this car and took first place in class and was able to receive another Rally car as a door prize. Another Hasegawa kit that I really enjoyed. That would be my breakouts. I will say that with every new model I build I learn something new and am able to achieve better results every time. That's what is fun to me. I really enjoy watching Billy post his newest build because he gets better with each new build he shows us. I've really enjoyed watching his growth and enthusiasm. AMT's Autocar A64B reissue ?
crispy replied to J J's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
ABC A I, Most due dates for model trucks and cars are specified by month and year or quarter. Their has never been an exact date for release on any model I have seen. So asking for a specific day that this kit is coming out is going to be nearly impossible unless you talk to someone over at Steven's, and even then you probably won't get an exact date. When they are available you'll know as these guys are right on top of releases. I know it's not much help, but that's the reality. So many of these kits get pushed that an exact date is impossible. I'd also like to WELCOME you and per forum rules ask that you put your first and last name in with your signature. Chris -
I try to get 15-30 minutes a night if I can. Sometimes when I become so engrossed I end up in their until 1 in the morning or later. But I average about 15-30 minutes a night. Chris

Those Borrani's are a work of art! Beautifully done. I too look forward to you completing this. This is one of my most favorite Ferrari's. Chris
