Desert Scale Classic shoe in Phx
Danno replied to pepperdrumstix's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Yes, Let's do it again ... April 21, 2012! Desert Scale Classic 8! -
Chris is right. The photos just don't do this creation any justice. It was great seeing it in person! Tim kinda glossed over one thing. The first Bob Peeples Memorial Best Engineered Award was conferred on this incredible dragster. A well-deserved honor. Bob would have loved this dragster. Congratulations, Tim! But, at the same time ... well earned. PS: Folks, besides being an talented builder, Tim's quite a guy. He's one of my grandson's favorite best friends!

10-25. I just saw the other thread with the info. Take care!

Whoa. Sorry to hear that. Silver Lining Dept.: The good news is that it wasn't one or both hands, wrists or arms. You can still build! LOL. Take care! PS: I didn't see this before posting a 'wha happn'd' in the other thread.

Whad'ya do to yerseff? Nothing real serious, I hope.

Well, we won't really know how great it can look built up until we see Gregg's finished build, now will we? I'll see your one 'reasoned post' and raise you two 'Kahuna strokes'. Nothing like a friendly game of Falcon Joker Poker. [insert missing ninja emoticon here.]

Danno replied to Mr. Can Am Garage's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
My Lonestars haven't arrived here in the desert yet, but ... everything I've seen the past few weeks ... and this look in the box ... tells me this is an out of the ballpark home run!! HUGE kudoes to Moebius!!!! -
Yikes! Did I really put that in writing? See ya ... gotta go get more glue!

I have a bunch of jobs that have worked their way to the front of my to-do list, so I'll join in. (Yeah, it's an ambitious list, but, hey, I have all the rest of the year, right?) I'm absolutely committed to getting these done!! '57 Chevy - Phoenix PD '57 Chevy - Phoenix FD '57 Chrysler convt - Turello's ride '59 Ford sedan - Crime Story squad '60 Ford sedan - Chicago PD patrol '60 Studebaker Lark - Phoenix PD '75 Cutlass - S/O unmarked (my old ride) '80 Dodge Diplomat - S/O marked (another old ride) '80 Dodge Diplomat - S/O detective (yet another old ride) '92 Caprice BP sedan (worse for wear) '08 Charger - Maricopa S/O '05 American LaFrance Fire Engine '11 Lonestar Fire Engine And, oh, yeah. There's another project I'm already 1/2 done with ... for the semi-tractor/trailer CBP ... but it would be a cross-over here, so I'll drop a pic or two later. It's a Pete 359 Conventional with Low Boy dropdeck trailer and a special load. Now, don't bother me, I've got to get to work! LOL.

1990 Contest annual - then and now
Danno replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dead on, Jantrix. Nostalgia can be a scary thing ... when there's evidence! But, it's always interesting. Thanks for spurring the trip down memory lane. -
Outstanding, Zoli!!

We are supposed to get smarter.

I also use a lot of zip-lock bags for parts storage. Besides the grocery store varieties, craft stores usually stock smaller zip-lock bags (like the aftermarket resin casters use) in a wide range of sizes from tiny to big; they are usually in the make-it-yourself jewelry section. I put small parts in those, and often put all the small bags for a particular assembly (chassis, engine, body trim, etc.) into a sandwich size zip-lock bag ~ to keep all the parts for the assembly together. Then I can stash all the assembly bags in a project box ~ a plain cardboard box a little larger than a kit box. I bought a bunch of those from an office supply store; all my work-in-progress projects are in those boxes. Makes for neat, uniform storage. I tend to "recycle" my bags, baggies, and storage boxes from one project to another, so I don't mark or label right on the bag or box. With the bags/baggies, I write the identifying information on a post-it and slip it into the bag. The post-it will stick to one side of the bag, and the labeling will show through the clear bag, but the label won't get lost or detached because it is inside the bag. When I've used the contents ~ installed on the project ~ I can through away the post it and the bag is ready for re-use. I do the same with the boxes: I use 3" wide masking tape for a label on the end of the box, and write the identification of the project on the masking tape. Once I've finished the project, I can peal the tape off and the box is ready for another project. -
Registration closes at 12 Noon. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

My email account was hacked!
Danno replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That explains it. (Your email.) I wondered why you would bother to take time from your day to email me. PS: So, are you saying your bank account number and PIN and permission to withdraw funds weren't true? -
Here's ours ~ ~ ~ Anniversary present to ourselves in 2007; unrestored original with 29k miles. Looked showroom new. Put new rubber on her, new shocks, suspension bushings, etc., synthetic oil, then drove it to Denver & back. She got 23.3 mpg on the trip, including mountain driving at highway speeds and maybe a little above (90+) with A/C on (July). Wonderful car!! She had been stored in a collection when we found her. Took her for first emissions test and she failed; needed tune-up. Chevy dealer's "carburetor guy" was on vacation, so had to wait a week to get her dialed in. (None of their other techs knew carbs!) Once adjusted, she hardly registered on state's E test, and she has maintained every year about 5-10 times cleaner than the 'fuel-efficient' and environmentally engineered '07 Taurus company car I drove ... and its mileage wasn't as good (it only got 22.9 mpg measured, with more conservative driving). And, she's a lot more fun to drive than the Taurus!

This is a slightly out of focus pic ~ but the best I have at the moment ~ for Nick Winter. He was inquiring as to how a Motorola Motrac control head should be detailed. This one (installed in a 70 Ford sedan on a floor rack) is close to dead-on, although its face should be flat aluminum instead of almond (like its housing). It is installed atop a Federal Director electronic siren control head. Hope this helps.

That's too bad. I also got one at a nearby Wallster ~ in the artsy artsy crafts department. Real trick little gizmo! Keep looking ... you'll find one.
