  1. Anybody else following the TV series Desert Car Kings on Discovery Channel? What do you think? I find it particularly interesting, since all of the DVAP facilities are in 'my neighborhood' ~ within a couple of miles of where I live. I go by there every day; I've attended their auctions (long before the TV series was filmed last fall; I've wandered their smaller lot; I've been by (but not in) their large lot and Ron's "private lot;" I've bought parts from them; and their shop is nearby ~~ always interesting stuff sitting around there. Some of their 'road' clips were filmed on nearby streets/roads and I can often recognize the exact spot. Aside from that, the premise is kind of fun, and I've enjoyed some of the side topics ~ like the vintage music shop (which I did not previously know about). Of course, you could keep the rattlesnakes. I've gotta introduce myself to their upholsterer! BTW - If you watch it and see the tall tower in the background, that's the new control tower at Deer Valley Airport ~ said to be the busiest general aviation airport in the U.S.
  2. The background clearly indicates it is a model on a tabletop ... ... which means it is real and photoshop ... ... was employed to give us a conipition fit ... ... by implying this real car is a kit.
  3. Thanks for the warning, Don. Good luck routing out those scoundrels!
  4. Very nice, Raoul!
  5. Agreed; wheelbase is too long resulting in unbalanced appearance due to too much distance from rear of cab to rear axle. Vehicle will look much better if the wheelbase is shortened, then bed will look best if its length is approx. the same behind rear axle as it is ahead of rear axle; in other words, rear axle centered. Just MHO.
  6. Just my luck! I was looking for something a little bigger ...
  7. Wild!
  8. Beautiful!
  9. Ahhhhhh! Been to Bernie's Bargain Barn, I see!
  10. Gee, I'm still waiting for the MCM limo to pick me up and take me to the airport to catch the MCM executive jet to the NNL. I'm thinking they're late.
  11. Welcome, Jeff! Always nice to see another good-looking fire engine!
  12. This has been an awesome journey from inspiration to project to completion; mucho kudos to Bernie. But! What really sets this apart from all others ... besides the great job Bernie did in replicating the movie car ... is Jerry Mull's active involvement ... via this message board! IF EVER THERE WAS A NATURAL MAGAZINE FEATURE BORN ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS IT! Hopefully, somebody will tip off a great model magazine to the story. Gentlemen, start your tip lines!
  13. Very, very NICE! Enjoyed watching this unfold. G00D JOB!!
  14. I'm waiting for the MCM limo to pick me up.
  15. As good an answer as any!
  16. Hey, Steve. If these guys sell like radioactive hotcakes, will they consider another run? Or are we locked in at 1200 each version forever?
  17. Regardless of whether you think your built models are "good enough" for the museum (International Model Car Builders Museum, Salt Lake City, UT) or not, please consider donating to them, for several reasons. (1) Your builds may likely be better than you think. (2) They like to display mainstream or "average" builders' models in addition to the hallmark builds. It demonstrates the state of the hobby at a given time, even better than the rare 'stand-out' model. (3) Even those built models that can't be displayed are useful to the museum ... sales of those at the GSL auction not only generate revenue for the museum (which offsets its expenses and can keep it operating), but they also put built models back into the hands of enthusiasts ~ where they belong. Better to change hands than to be thrown into a landfill ~ and the cash generated at the museum's auction can help keep the museum available to future generations. Besides, that's what keeps collectors like Tom Geiger going ... (4) Your tool and supplies collection may have a vital piece of memorabilia that the museum has not previously been able to collect ... something from your workbench could complete a tasty piece of history that would otherwise have been lost. (5) And, your unbuilt kits can be auctioned to generate more funds for the museum, or, they may send those unbuilt kits to soldiers, sailers, airmen and marines in combat zones overseas for stress-relief, or, at the very least, your unbuilt kits could end up being some other modelers' holy grails! Any way you shake it, in my humble opinion, donation of your goodies to the museum will benefit the hobby. If you don't have a family member that will really do your accumulated goodies right, ... please give careful consideration to these thoughts. The worst thing that could happen is for someone who just doesn't care ... or get it ... to dump everything in the refuse.
  18. Worst? I quit.
  19. Wow! That one looks EVEN BETTER!! Marking the calendar ...
