  1. Here's an update. DESERT SCALE CLASSIC is pleased to announce six major sponsors have signed on to support the event! Moonlight Modelers Club of Phoenix, Tucson Miniature Auto Club, Craig Hewitt (Phoenix) Chapter IPMS, Hobby Depot of Tempe, TORCO Lubricants, and Dan Doane. And, a new vendor will be at DESERT SCALE CLASSIC this year, ScaleFinishes. Purveyors of fine automotive OEM, custom, and special paints and finishes, ScaleFinishes will be on hand in our vendor's swap meet. Don't miss it! DESERT SCALE CLASSIC 7 ~ April 16, 2011 ~ Postal Workers Union Hall, 3720 W. Greenway Road, Phoenix
  2. Eh, we've ALWAYS called him that here in Phoenix. Well, that and other things ...
  3. None of that what you said. I've paid my dues shoveling snow and chopping ice ... more than you know. (I navigated the Rockies and the Continental Divide, highways and back roads, through more winters than I care to remember.) Just wanted to let y'all know it's not so good down here, either. We may not have snow to shovel or ice to deal with, but it's not the usual paradise here, either. Temperature swings from 120 degrees down to 29 degrees just ain't right! It got so cold, the frost killed my artificial turf.
  4. Colder than a ... witch or monkey care to think about. Well, anyway it's colder than most people can ever remember Arizona ever being! They even cancelled the first two days of the Phoenix Open events (including the Pro-Am) due to the cold and frozen golf course!!! First time ever. PGA says they don't remember having to postpone or cancel an event due to cold ... and it had to be Phoenix!! Jeeeeeez. What's this world coming to? I've had to break out my Broncos jacket, Avalanche ski cap, and Rockies snomobile driving gloves just to go out and tend to my frosty cacti. Somebody throw the switch and turn the furnace back on!
  5. Who'd a thunk ... after putting TWO engines in a Mustang you're only 1/2 done! Boy, there's an echo in here! (Duplicate threads)

  7. I still think the cover date is superfluous and 75% of the "controversy" could be eliminated by deleting reference to a date on the issue. Personally, I think it would be a hoot to label all 9 issues as "December 2011" and just go by the numbers. After all, those other guys are ahead of schedule; some magazines are several months ahead. Who cares when all 9 issues arrive or what they say on the cover? As long as subscribers get the 9 or 18 issues they pay for, it's 'value received.' Oh, by the way, welcome new subscriber! LOL. Almost forgot the point of your post.
  8. Well, I for one think 154 is a great issue, even though I don't have much use for Ferraris and even less use for dinky die casts. But, those articles float someone's boat and that's good enough for me. They probably whine about all the space taken up by truck models, customs, or that "once every three/four years emergency vehicle article" that I so enjoy. Now I've got to get back to gathering vintage, period-specific red lights and sirens. I hear there's a Hudson coming soon!
  9. Sure, make us do our own work!!
  10. All kidding aside, we're actually feeling a little (I said, a little) of your pain. Our high temperature today is expected to be no more than 45 degrees. Now guys, before you start hooting ... that is COLD for the daytime in Phoenix! Everything is relative. At least we don't have any snow to shovel, and the only thing obstructing our streets is an accumulation of Snowbirds. Good luck with the storm.
  11. So, Mark. Which resin caster will be offering this beautiful creation of yours for sale to us, the unwashed masses? Exceptionally smooth blend of both body styles! I love it!
  12. I miss "snow days." In Colorado, we had occasional free days off due to too much snow. Here in Arizona, you never get a free day off due to too much sunshine.
  13. Rob, Just for you! Stay cool, dude!

    63 Avanti

Nice. Just gotta love those Avantis!!
  15. Everybody get ready for a collective groan. I'd like to see Revell update the 2001 Impala to a 2008-2009 Impala. There. I've said it. Of course, I'd also like to see the 1999 Silverado updated to a current Silverado; the 1996 Tahoe updated to a curent Tahoe; and the Escalade kit revised to a current Suburban. Now those aren't so bad, are they?
  16. Interesting. You should transplant a big engine into it ... a Chrysler FirePower V8 would seem appropriate! Looking forward to seeing this finished.
  17. Wow! That's neat.
  18. These reports and photos are making me cold! Think I'll go heat up some cocoa and toss in some chilled Doc McGilicuddy's Menthol Schnaaps. Best winter beverage for snowy nights there ever was! Throw another log on the fire.
  19. Uhhhhhhhn, (THUD). * That's the sound of me, overwhelmed, passing out and hitting floor. * And it's not even finished, yet! Jeeeeeeeeez! Holy, cow, John, you've done it again. Looking forward to it.
  20. There's an interesting point. When was the last time a kit manufacturer target-marketed a 1:1 club with its product (other than Revell's Goodguys series of kits ... more on that in a moment)? For example, the still-born '50 Stude: Did the RC2 folks test-market that idea with the Studebaker Driver's Club? It seems to me they would be an instant market, and even the many members who love Studes but don't normally build models or circulate in our world would probably buy one or two just to have in their Studebilia collections. Just like the Edsel Owners Club that Joe mentioned. While a niche group would not normally be counted among a model company's constituent base, they would be a sales factor when that model company cranks out a product near and dear to their hearts. Moebius has a landmark Hudson kit coming soon, and the Hudson club is stoked! Members who normally don't build models are frothing at the bit to get ahold of that kit. Good thing Moebius didn't overlook them in early marketing; it should help them move sufficient plastic to assure a fiscal success. The Hudson club, however, is not a constituency to expect as customers for the Chrysler C-300 kit. However, there are Chrysler clubs and Letter Car clubs, etc., etc. Again, I wonder if RC2's test-marketing touched upon the Buick-Olds-Pontiac afficiandos or the Studebaker Drivers Club, etc. PS: I touched upon the Revell-Goodguys affinity. That's a little different. The Goodguys kits were already existing tools of a genre (street rods and street machines) being co-branded with the GG name & logo. While sales to Goodguys members will certainly be beneficial to Revell, the tools were long ago amortized and the affiliation isn't a factor in supporting "new" tool, brand specific kits. So that's just a little different.
  21. Check out the new MCM (Issue# 154). The masks Chris used are a new product he sells; available to us all! See page 5.
  22. I like that! Very kewlll.
  23. Lookin' good!
  24. Looks like a nice kit, but just doesn't do anything for me. I'll wait until they're discounted at the swap meets, if then. But, having said that, I still wish Trumpeter great success with it.
