  1. Thanks, I've already looked at AITM's offerings.
  2. Thanks all. These are both Shapeways 3D prints in Fine Ultra Detail (FUD). They are O scale but are also available in HO. As far as I can tell, they are the only models available of Mt Washington Cog equipment. I have looked for years and even thought of building from scratch but never had the courage...
  3. Finished the coach to go with my previously completed steamer.
  4. Just curious if anyone has a source for these if they even exist? Looking for the old bias-ply type of lug snow tires for AMT rims. I have a set from a kit long ago that are really military style NDTs and just won't look right on a civilian truck. Rims are from the AMT Autocar A64B kit. Looking for 2 for front rims. TIA
  5. I like the show just as I like the Deadliest Catch. No more real and any other "reality" TV show; let's face it, life just isn't that exciting for most of us and the producers are always making things "more interesting" to keep us tuned in. About Darrell, wow, hadn't heard, too bad. He and Lisa seemed close, they went thru a lot together.
  6. All nice looking builds/re-builds. Bet the 1:1 took longer and cost more...... ;^)
  7. Excellent job! Weathering is just right, not overdone.
  8. Excellent job on the rust and rot!
  9. A couple of the late Dale E's cars built up in the early 90's.
  10. Looks good, I like the wood treatment.
  11. IIRC it was a Monogram kit. If you really have to have one then I guess it's worth it but the fit wasn't that good, ie, look at the gap in the hood.
  12. I admit, not the greatest build but I saw one on TV (a couple of Brits in CA) and it got me looking thru the basement.
  13. Another old build from the early days. A friend actually had one of these, and despite appearances, it was really a nice little truck. I wouldn't want to run for hours on the highway but for around town and back roads it was fine. IIRC, it was a re-badged Isuzu.
  14. Use an air shipping service as opposed to ground. That would be the high end USPS (above Priority) and UPS next day or second day (or the Fed Ex equal). I've found the air shipments generally get better treatment than the ground. Not sure any one carrier is best, I've heard horror stories about them all. UPS once trashed a Tamiya RC car I shipped. I pack well, I've sent large format cameras with glass plates across the country with no problems, but this one time they must have run it over with the truck. I shipped it in a double-walled box but it arrived in a single wall box. The rear swing arm was broken in two; a suspension part that was made of a delrin type material made to take shocks. UPS denied all accountability. As for your model, don't pack with anything that can rub against the model. I've had the best luck with the thin foam sheets wrapped around and then bubble wrap. No matter what you do, I'd be surprized if there wasn't some sort of damage. I think a road trip is in order!
  15. I guess it will be the 6 wheel dump. The day cab would be the easier build (and cheaper) but the original idea still has appeal. While I admit an armored car would be interesting, it's way down on my list.
  16. Many years ago, (around 1984) I bought a ERTL International S kit (10 wheel tractor) with the plan of doing a small 6 wheel dump used by CTDOT and many towns at the time. The project got shelved and I recently found the box with only a minimal amount of work done to it. I have been thinking I'd like to do a 6 wheel day cab tractor as there were many of them running around. I noticed that there are dump bodies and plows now available in resin and I'm thinking of the original project again. So, my question to those of the forums, which project sounds better: A 6 wheel dump with plow (orange, of course) or a 6 wheel day cab (white, as they were for the most part)? I know it's going to be up to me, but which of those hasn't been done (or done often)? All opinions considered.
  17. Thanks for all the responses!
  18. I guess my thinking is, if heat is an issue then plastic containers would melt long before enough heat was generated to break glass, especially one meant for the oven.
  19. I'll be re-conditioning a old model I assembled 40+ years ago and bought some Super Clean. I've had the hood soaking in 91% alcohol but it isn't doing much to the layers of Testors rattle can paint. I read the jug of Super Clean and it says not to use glass. Can I use tupperware or other disposable plastic containers for my soak? I often use the thin metal loaf pans from the supermarket, would they be an option? I don't want to melt anything and have the Super Clean leak out. Thanks,
  20. Ok, thanks. Kit tires? If not, would you tell me where you got them?
  21. Ok, the A64B kit has rounded fenders, so this is the dump kit with a short frame?
  22. Yes, posted a pic here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/115985-2-door-k-5-blazer/
