  1. Looks like a challenging build!
  2. The cab/hood and frame are in base coat. Still need to work on some details including fabbing a front bumper. The AITM nose is for the AMT Autocar dump kit, this is the A64B tractor kit and has a different bumper. The interior is back together, just a quick strip and re-paint, I left the dash as it was. I cut the side windows out, I just prefer that look.
  3. Thanks everyone. The hood/grill conversion is from AITM. The front fenders are also Dave's as is the mixer and the wheels/tires.
  4. The mixer body is well on the way, needs some details, decals and final assembly. The chassis is just about there, i had to move one of the rear axles a little as the original assembly was a bit un-precise. The tires/wheels are soaking in cleaner and have been fit to the chassis. I still have to fit the front fenders and tweak the cab/hood but it's getting close to color.
  5. Every jet truck I've seen has been low to the ground and long wheelbase for stability.
  6. Interesting process, I'll be watching for additional posts.
  7. I spent 30 years away and returned within the last year. You are correct, there is soooo much more out there today. Resin kits and mods were rare and 3D printing opens a whole new world which will be exciting to follow as it matures. Heck, just the internet alone is worth the price of admission! Have fun with it, I don't look at it as a competition but I must admit I've seen some builds here that just blow me away.
  8. Not sure that UPS used this style. I had read somewhere that they had their own nose design that was only used on the UPS orders. I have seen some Fed Ex Ground trucks lately that look similar, but the grill on this one seems to indicate an older model. Maybe an old Snap-on truck?
  9. The apparent distortion is in the photo, a steel straight edge shows the back corner to be straight. It does have duals in the rear, comes with 6 tires and rims.
  10. I'll put a straight-edge on it tonight when I get home. The rears are duals IIRC. The bottom edges of the sides are a little bowed in but when the floor is put in place, they go back to where they should be.
  11. My new project arrived last night (ok, I know I have several in the que before it!) from Motor City Resin Casters. The Kurbmaster is well formed and was well packed for shipping. Looks like it's nearly complete with tires and wheels, so it should yield a good looking out of box build. I still have to decide how I'm going to do it and will be looking around to find something interesting to model it after.
  12. Here is a shot after the dis-assembly: After paint stripping and primer. I couldn't get the Testor's flat black off the frame, so I left it.
  13. As in the title, I'm looking to find out what color Cummins engines were in the 50's and 60's. Thanks.
  14. Have you looked at doll house supplies? You might find something close to scale.
  15. I picked up some off of Ebay a while back. They come in boxes of 8, with tractor and trailer types.
  16. I often use CA for assembly before painting and white glue after. If I have a problem with keeping a part attached while the white glue cures, I may try something else but for the question at hand, I'd use white glue. The only downside of white glue is that it will dissolve in water (which can be helpful if you decide to re-do something years from now!) but as I don't usually play with my models in the bath tub, it isn't a problem!
  17. Great job! I built one 35 years ago box stock, never painted it. Kinda wish I had it in kit form now as my skills are 100x better than back in the day.
  18. One thing I'm still debating is whether or not I can fit a front diff under the engine to make it a 10X10.
  19. I've finally been able to make some progress with this project. I still have some research to do, and maybe some parts to find. This will be my most ambicous truck project to date though the conversion of a 4 door Tahoe to a 2 door K-Blazer had its moments. Here's the project: I have an old AMT Autocar A64B that I built up 30+ years ago that, well, let's just say it didn't come out too well. The cab has been salvaged and stripped and the engine is currently soaking in Super Clean. I have some parts from AITM that include their mixer body and some oversized tires and rims. The old kit will be getting a new nose as well, so lots of things to keep me busy for the winter. I already have a paint scheme in mind, but that might change along the way. Will get to some pics as progress is made.
