  1. Until this build, I'd never seen the chassis for a 300. Neat car.
  2. Thanks AFX, this was a good thread AND vid over my morning coffee. (BTW ... for all my fellow 1/18 scale modders - This is a car that can be done in 1/18th scale ... the donors are available at very reasonable prices.) LOVE the Coupe! When I think about companies that build roadsters ... and then built them into GT Coupes, I can hardly think of one that looked bad with a roof on it. Jag, MG's A & B, Alpine, Triumph ... even the Volvo P1800 looked GREAT when they put an "ES" on the back.
  3. Davo, just got back from your facebook page. BEAUTIFUL work. T
  4. And didn't we all say the very same thing when the desk top computer came into popularity about 30 years ago. Now, I got 3 desktops and 2 laptops in my home. The manufacturers know if these things are too difficult to run, nobody will buy them ... and these things aren't being built just for us scale car builders, there is going to be a HUGE market for them. As demand grows, somebody will dumb down the learning process, just as they did DOS to Windows, and, of course, there will be a ton of 3D For Dummies books. Have you seen the advancements made in building and flying model airplanes? For the past 5 years folks have been designing, scaling up, scaling down adding and changing colors and printing their planes, with details and all, directly onto depron foam ... then cut them out, a bit of assembly and FLY them ... BEAUTIFUL scale model airplanes. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1122519-DH2-Designed-and-printed-with-video If you want to design your own bits, you'll learn to do it ... but I think most of us will be buying the files, just as most of us buy plastic model car kits, or aftermarket resin parts instead of scratch building them . I'm sure that a file for a 350 Chevy V8 won't be bound to one scale, say 1/24, either ... it's only takes a bit of math to scale something up from 1/24 to 1/18. Computers are a lot better at math than I am, and faster. 3D printing is going to make big changes, and I can't see it as anything but GREAT for model builders.
  5. Great build. Right on down to the E brake cable. This is a car I wish they would build in 1/18.
  6. +1 The research too. It just gets better every day. But then I LOVE old race cars. Especially road racers. AFX: Have you ever built an AC Ace? I've only seen one, 1:1. It was at a car show in Red Bank, NJ, many years ago.
  7. Dave, we live in an amazing time ... and I think it's about to get even more amazing. I can see a time, perhaps within the next two years, where you won't buy kits or even cast parts. You will simply buy the files ... and print out what you want. It sure will help out with the tires for my MGB racer. Have you done any model work with your Anet A8 Prusa Clone? Can it do fine detail work? T
  8. I don't know one-way-or-the-other. I kind of doubt that these things can do the detail scale modelers need ... not at this price point, not just yet. But I think we might be getting closer. As I told my son ... you still gotta learn to run it.
  9. I do believe you're right. 331-cubic-inch Hemi's. About 20 years ago when I first started collecting 1/18 diecast, I had a chance to buy a couple cartons of Bburago models at about 2-3 bucks a piece. I was just learning about "good" diecast and "bad" diecast and turned up my nose at the deal. I never considered doing this type of mods to them. What a dope.
  10. OK ... My son just sent me this vid. I don't know ANYTHING about these 3D printers ... and I'm sure that someone who paid over $1,000 will tell you that a cheap one ain't no good ... but 3D printers are now down to $180-$200. I think this could be a game changer ... looks like they are getting more affordable. I'll be reading more about this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ispolAHB4jA My son and his new wife are barely 30 and have good jobs and no kids. He tells me he's thinking about this one: https://www.amazon.com/TEVO-Tarantula-Aluminum-Prusa-Printer/dp/B01MZ0BNOJ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1489425607&sr=8-4 It's a bit more expensive but, " it's built using a popular open source design , it's upgradeable, and a lot of the upgrades can be done by printing better parts from the machine itself."
  11. Very nice truck.
  12. Nice! Love the vinyl top.
  13. Sorry, I see my post wasn't that clear and caused a bit of confusion. The site I mentioned builds and sells drop tanks for 1:1 cars. The measured drawings can be scaled for anything and these are what I will be using to make my own. What engine are you going to be using?
  14. First ... GREAT looking build. Second ... there is a lesson here. The camera does see things your eyes don't. After I build even the smallest thing and think it looks pretty good, I take a couple pictures and give things another look. And I ALWAYS find something that needs just a little more attention. Today's modern cameras with their close up lenses are great and you can take as many photos as you want ABSOLUTELY FREE. It's a great tool for the model builder.
  15. I have been planning one of these in 1/18 scale. I did some research a while back and found someone who makes and sells them. On their website they have detailed drawings and measurements sufficient to allow some one to carve a buck and vac form one. Two sizes ... http://www.classglassperformance.com/P-38 Belly.html T Hey ... nice desk. Looks like mine.
  16. Wow ... you are a regular SPCA ... for Vettes, Man!!!! Nice work.
  17. The racers mantra: ALWAYS build light. One heck of a good job.
  18. That IS Bridgehampton!!! Do you have any other pictures from that track? If you go to this thread, you'll see a picture of my car, many years later, not 50 yards from where this one was parked.
  19. Until I read this thread, I hadn't known that Cunningham raced Jags at all, such is the emphasis on his other cars. So I went looking to see what's up. It turns out he raced a coupe as well: http://www.jagweb.com/jaguarmodelclub/05-1337 VC WILFRIED/05-1337 VC WILFRIED.htm Being the VERY unabashed American, I love the color scheme. T

    1941 Lincoln

    Great looking car.
  21. I just did a search for Province Moulage and went to their site. All I was able to find was 43 & 24 scale stuff. But then ... my French ain't all that good. Great looking car. Love the hard top.
  22. Nice looking truck. No radio, no heater, but it'll get you where you want to go.
  23. Any 1/18th scale parts, accessories or other goodies?
  24. That he survived 60's-70's vintage F1 was a feat in itself. A championship on both 2 and 4 wheels AND lived this long? What are the odds against such a thing. I've heard it said, "There are no old, bold racers." At 83 years old, I think we might have to make an exception for Surtees.
