Hello, It's finally done! What else can I say? You have seen it's progress. If not, here is the link. Progress thread in the workbench section What was supposed to be just another project evolved into one of the most elaborate model I've ever done! And it is not a Corvette! I thought the C6R and the Gurney Eagle were my top, but I think this tops them, especially considering all the working features and the fact that this came out of an AMT box. I took about 100 pictures but I think none of them do justice to the car. As usual, your comments are appreciated. Convertible top on. This was a true roadster, so it had no side windows. Top down, everything else closed. hood open Rumble seat and golf bag door open. The golf bag door is not droopy like it seems in the picture. Go figure.... a stack of 1933 Indy 500 programs The chrome looks like rubbed off but it is not. It is OK. That's the reflection of the poster on the wall. Whoever sat in the rumble seat left a program behind. interior Engine, hood off I want to thank all of you for your comments and encouragement during the process. At some point I thought this would never end. But there are 2 guys I want to give special thanks to: my advisors Art Anderson and Luis Ayala. THANK YOU BOTH from the bottom of my heart! My hat off to you 2! Thanks,

Patience, my young padawan, patience like Luiggi said to Guido: "You will have your chance, you will have your chance" Due credit will be provided as soon as the build starts....

Ever seen the movie "Twins"?

Erick! Nice to see you here! I love your work. You and David have inspired me to build my first NASCAR. I'll soon start with Dale's '98 Daytona winner. Thanks,
-
Thank you all for your nice comments! Nick: Martini and Camaro? No, you shouldn't drink and drive Clay: No Dale: I used Scalefinishes Sunoco blue and Sunoco yellow. The yellow was used in the stripes, roll cage and wheels. The interior gray was my own mix of hobby enamels white and black. Stump: The yellow stripes are not decals. They were masked and painted. Decals have never been very friendly to me. Here is a link to the progress thread on the workbench section. It has more details on the paint, stripes, masking etc. Click here for the progress thread in the workbench section Thanks!

Here are a few pictures from last year's show. Unfortunately I don't have the names of all the builders. Jose Madera Carlos De Jesus (one of my favorite builders) Daniel Gabriel Jimmy "Volkswagen" This year's show is next weekend! Can't wait to be there! Thanks,

Hello, Inspired by David Thibodeau and Erick Gerena, I'm about to start building my very first NASCAR model for a local forum buildoff. David's work is just amazing and I am not even considering attempting to reach that level. Just a clean fun build. The subject chosen is Dale Earnhardt's '98 Daytona winner. Yes, I know everybody and their grandmother has built it but I was (am) a big Dale Sr. fan. I thought I was a big NASCAR fan, but when Dale died, I realized I was a Dale Sr. fan. Haven't really watched a NASCAR race since that day in 2001. I have found tons of pictures of that car from the sides and front, but I haven't been able to find detail pictures of the rear spoiler and it's brackets, the trunk with the fuel cell, hoses etc, or the interior. Can someone point me in the right direction? Either of the actual car or a similar one from '98? Thanks,
-
I am one of the "panas" in this buildoff. I'll do my first Nascar as well. Good start Danny, I have yet to open mine.

This model has been finished and it is now posted in the Under Glass section. Thanks,

Here is a look at the interior prior to assembly as it is hard to see once in place... Thanks,

Hello, I have always been inspired by modelers like Bob Downie, who has demostrated over and over again that a curbside can be a GREAT looking model. So this was a 3 week quick build focused on the paint scheme. Of course I couldn't leave it as is, so I did a racing inspired interior. The idea was to build a dual purpose car: A street legal driver (emissions inspection, license plate etc) for the week and a track warrior for the weekend. Obviously inspired by the Penske Camaros, I put a modern touch with the mirrors and deck spoiler in raw carbon fiber. Been such a quick build it has plenty of errors. The extinguisher is too big, I have no idea if the roll cage design is correct as I didn't get any reference, etc. etc. but I like how it looks. This is almost the total opposite of the '33 Chrysler Pace Car project. Hope you enjoy. Revell Snap Concept Camaro Scalefinishes paint Perry's resin seat and wheels/tires I hope you like it. Thanks,

Hello, Back in our local forum (Scalebuilder.com) a fellow member posted some pictures of drag racing in Puerto Rico from the late 80's early 90's. That reminded me I have pictures from that era. You see, drag racing in King of motorsports in Puerto Rico. If it moves we drag race it. In fact, there are some heated arguments that the import drag racing scene started in Puerto Rico over 40 years ago, not in California. These pictures are from the summer of '91. It seems like only yesterday, but that was 17 years ago. I was starting to get into photography and this was likely the first motorsports event I photographed with my then new Pentax K-1000, which I still use. You'll see some pictures are good and others, well, I was learning. This is one of the oldest dragstrips in Puerto Rico and it is still in operation. It also has a road course. Right now there are at least 4 fully NHRA certified 1/4 mile dragstrips, plus a few 1/8 strips. I made a Fotki album and I have just found more pictures I'll be slowly scanning and posting. Here is the link: Puerto Rico International Speedway Fotki album and here some samples: Hope you like them..... Thanks,

Hello, My sister just delivered baby Jacob this morning! My first nephew! Oh boy, another kid to spoil with Hot Wheels, scale models and cub scouts! Yipee!! Thanks,

Nice Ferrari! It looks great. That is 1/20, right? There is a conspiracy in F1 model decals! Revell Germany F1 kits have some of the worst decals I've ever used. I used 2 sets and gallons of decal solvent in my Villeneuve's car and still have problems. Thanks,

Two-tone colors; which to use for masking.

Like CAL said, 2 words, 3 samples: Tamiya tape Tamiya tape Tamiya tape I can't speak high enough of the Tamiya tape. All these are careful masking jobs with it. Thanks, -
Love the color. Very period correct. Glad to see more progress on this one...

These are the wheels I'm going to use. I can't think of any better choice. They'll be painted yellow as well. Perry's Resin Minilites. I think he will have them in Toledo... Thanks,

Lewis Hamilton's Verdict in!
ismaelg replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
David Coulthard once said Kimi was "Dead from the feet up". Kimi is notorious for NOT having a personality at all. He was asked if he was going to party at his birthday (mid 20's) and he responded "I'm too old for that now". Michael has always been my favorite driver. I haven't followed F1 since he retired. He celebrated every win like if it were his first. Senna was just as great but I think in his time there was a bit more variation between the cars. Michael dominated when rules were making cars closer together. Of course the Ferrari reliability did not hurt either. In the rain, they were both great but I think Senna may have had the edge. He was the Rei da Chuva (King of the rain). I still consider myself a Tifosi! I'd love to see Massa win the championship. Thanks, -
Hello again, Interior is done! Not exactly 100% factory stock or box stock for that matter Recycling? The seatbelts and the door pulls were made using the tape used for masking the yellow stripes Added Motorola radio / data logger transponder Photoetch seatbelt hardware pieces are leftovers from the blue Porsche Toggle switches are just painted wire. Bare metal parts are alum foil Carbon fiber dash panel is alum foil covered with leftover carbon fiber decals from the Cadillac project. What do you think? Thanks,
-
Metal plates where the seats go (alum foil) parts box racing seat (Perry's resin), fire extinguisher machined in my lathe just for fun, (yeah it's big. I want to flood the car in a fire) riveted aluminum door panels (more alum foil) door pull straps (more on that later), Carbon fiber racing dash plate with racing computer and toggle switches. Thanks,
