  1. I get spatter screens at the dollar store, they are like 12" in diameter.
  2. I gave up on enamels a long time ago. BUT... I was using Testors and home-center enamels. Lacquers and acrylic-lacquers I have very little problems with. The MCW stuff is probably a ton better. I'm also lazy and don't have a dedicated place to build, so no airbrush, although I own 4 of them.
  3. Their primers are pretty good, also in big cans. I use some Transtar primers too, better than the SEM ones. But the nozzles have to be cleaned now and then.
  4. I'm about 10 minutes from the old OBI lot on Ocean Parkway, that one fills up fast and you have to get there by 6:30 or come back after 9. They have a porta-potty and a coffee truck, sometimes 2. Captree Boat Basin is nice, but they start charging admission on weekends, so the herd moves to OBI after mid April. I can hear the cars heading down right now, I back up to the Causeway. I'm 2 stop signs from there.
  5. I have a couple of complete kits, open box, plus some of just the backs I have gathered over the years. I have done a bunch of research and they are very accurate. I drove trucks with the 440 winches and some older Weldbilt ones. That company was local to me for many years.
  6. My 2 cats were like oil and water. Chloe was about 8 when we got Ivan, the feral rescue kitten. She despised him, but he liked her. She beat the tar out of him until he got bigger.
  7. I've been working on the Belair, I am getting the Ford ready to fly soon. The Tuesday show is pretty good, I try to go on cooler days. The afternoon sun is murder with no AC. My Sundays are a day of rest mostly. I generally avoid formal car shows, I don't care for the mentality that goes with them. I never raced on DPA, the cops were terrible even back in 1975-1976. It was 1982, the last time I "cruised" DPA. We were coming back from racing at Riverhead and had a stock car on the trailer, we had just come down from the LIE. My racing partner was a little bombed... he has me pull over by a group of guys with hot cars. He gets out and says , who wants to run right now for $500? He pulls money out of his pocket (nowhere close to $500...). They fell silent, "what is it"? They might have never seen a stock car before, especially one that was creased on all sides.
  8. I started using this pro paint shop clear over Duplicolor, a 1K type in a big spray can, SEM #40903. It dries fast, goes on smooth. The cans spray very well. Another I like is the Extreme Lacquer clear. Like I have said, Duplicolor is not what it once was. I have had it blush even inside under the best of conditions.
  9. Thanks, I appreciate it I dig your work too. I should be approved by now and will check in a bit. I quit FB back in 2019, family stuff I need to avoid.
  10. I cleaned out everything after that event. I'm also on the NY State MM program, so I can't even smoke a little weed. I go the other way whenever I even smell it.
  11. How about Angus Young?
  12. His company name FRW appears on a Slixx decal sheet. He may have had some serious family issues going on a while back.
  13. Nobody a Joe Walsh fan? He and Don Felder woke up the Eagles when they joined up.
  14. Very nice, I saw decals for another version, the car was solid blue.
  15. Iceman Collections may have grilles for this era truck. I did a '77 GMC truck recently and opened up the grille from the back, really changed the look of it. White bumpers for sure, maybe a step and hitch on the back bumper?
  16. What happened to Fred? He was a good guy and came to the NNL East a couple of times, I still have some of his parts that I use.
  17. Yup, sooner or later. I'm having back spasm issues so I'm laying a little low right now. I'm waiting on a Hagerty quote on my "new" Belair, then a trip to DMV. The seat upholstery is on order. Next up from there is getting the new springs in all around, sway bar links and front shocks. Also an alignment, my buddy has a shop in Deer Park and he will be helping.
  18. I came close to getting busted at pain management... another pain medication showed up in my 6-month required whiz test. Just a trace amount of Tramadol as opposed to my regular Oxy. I had some older meds on top of my dresser and took one in the middle of the night with the lights out.
  19. Heck, I love dehydrators. I'm on #2, my old Magic Chef needs a new base, I picked up one with temperature control for $40 at Ollies. The Magic Chef, I wired in a house dimmer switch, worked great until it "soiled" the bed on me. I had it going yesterday to cure some putty and CA glue, also some primer. As of late, I have been waiting a little, I was having bubbling issues with some primers if I put it in right away. I give it maybe 15 minutes and then in it goes. Plus it is a dust-free environment. With the OG one, I was doing a custom '49 Mercury with car touch up paint some years back. Having one greatly accelerated the build at the end. I could lay down 3 coats of lacquer in a single day, rinse repeat for the lacquer clear. That can won more than a few awards at MASSCAR in 2011, nest custom, best paint and best Mercury. I took it to a show in 2022 and it won 2nd in Customs.
  20. We had a squirrel come down the chimney and got stuck in the damper of the oil burner. My dad heard the racket, went down to look. He got the squirrel out, it ran all over the place leaving black soot on my dad's wood working projects. He opened a window and the squirrel made his exit.
  21. I used to go there in the past pretty often, not so much in recent years. This is a profound loss to the hobby.
  22. I prime almost everything. Some small 3D printed parts are the exception. Even with handling after paint, the finish holds up. As I get older, I don't see as well as I used to. Primer shows problem areas a lot better than no primer.
  23. Most of my paints (almost always lacquers) go into the dehydrator for 2-3 hours. I let them out gas a bit (15-20 minutes) then in they go. I color-sand any fly turds out of it and go for another coat or do the clear thing.
