  1. Finally up on four paws. I have added trailing arms and a panhard bar and raised the ride height. Working on the engine now.
  2. Tom I have built a Carrera Panamericana Studebaker. It would not work for this race, but if you'd like to see it I can PM you? On the subject of my current racer. I'm in get everything painted mode. I wanted to get my ride height permanently set, before I alter the wheel openings. As for body color, I'm gonna keep it simple. I think someone whos building a real car for this race would assume, the car is gonna get messed up over 5500 miles, and use whatever is laying around.
  3. Can I assume that the paint will be changed? Because I do not find the current motif humorous or appropriate.
  4. That's up in the panhandle right? I haven't been that far north yet. I've heard its beautiful. We're down here in the desert just west of Boise. We love it.
  5. I followed that build on the HAMB. Pretty darn amazing. Beautiful work.
  6. Interesting idea. However if you Google "homesteading book" you will darn near break the internet. Homesteading or "getting back to nature" is such a popular trend these days, there is no shortage of such stories. TV shows, magazines, blogs, etc, etc. It is enough for me that my friends and family are enjoying what I've been putting out about our little canyon. If one person someday sees what we've done and is then inspired to find their own way out of the rat race, then I'll be ecstatic.
  7. When I decide on a model and how it will be built, I come up with a plan. If a one piece promo chassis doesn't hinder said plan, it's all good. Simple as that.
  8. Thanks Tom. It really has been a life affirming year. It really comes down to figuring out what you want, and having the guts to make it happen. Yes that is where I am now. For the last year there was so much work ahead of me, that I felt guilty staying in after a day AT work. Seeing the mess would drive me crazy. But now it's all good. Just a few chores keeping the animals fed, watered and warm. In the spring we'll start fencing the property. And cleaning up the deadfall along the creek. Thanks for the ataboys on the Willys guys. It was fun build.
  9. The Parts Box is based in Australia. Closest thing I know of to NZ. https://www.thepartsbox.com/shop/
  10. Super clean work inside and out. I dig it.
  11. Most monster trucks are wider than the average travel lane. So there's that. But, we're building street legal race cars here. It must be built as something that could race from coast to coast. If you want to build the model this way, I'm not going to say no, but I've my doubts a monster truck could make it out of town, much less, cross country.
  12. Very impressive. Looking forward to more.
  13. Well this year has been an amazing journey for my wife and I. After purchasing a 10 acre homestead, off the paved road, in an Idaho canyon, in late 2017 we have - 1. Moved in. 2. Built dog run. 3. Refloored and painted the guest room. 4. Built some raised beds, planted a garden. Wiped out by crickets and grasshoppers. Greenhouse next year. 5. Cleaned up the property. It was a failed goat/sheep/pig farm prior and all the remnants of that were everywhere. Pens, enclosures, paddocks etc. A real mess. Now it is a beautiful blank slate. 6. Cleaned out the barn. See #5. 7. Build a chicken coop in the barn, and a chicken run outside. Added 20 odd chickens. They are tasty. 8. Built a goat pen in the barn and an enclosure outside the barn complete with goat gazebo. Added two female goats. Thelma and Louise. 9. Entirely changed our life from something dreary and unfulfulling to something that makes me smile and sigh every day. Life is good. 10. Oh , and I managed to build a model too. Turbo slant six '41 Willys.
  14. That one always gets me.
  15. The Vannonball thread is up - building begins January 1st.
  16. You are in. I've been hard at it getting things painted. Pics soon.
  17. Our roster of the most distinguished group of highway scofflaws and degenerates ever gathered together in one place. 18. Here we are again folks, at the start of a brand new year and of our 12th (!!!) Cannonball Run Community Build Project. I continue to be impressed by the dedication of our builders, year after year. Our theme this year is VANS! Your build must feature a vehicle that is a van or a panel truck. It must be built as a vehicle that could race from coast to coast. Please note: a sedan delivery is NOT the same thing as a panel truck. A sedan delivery is based on a passenger car body/chassis and a panel truck is based upon a pick-up truck body/chassis. Many kits that are not vans, call themselves vans on the box. That will not make them allowable. Please do your research on the kit you choose. Also, the cargo area and the cab are usually the same space in a van, though the partial bulkhead behind the seats of a step van doesn’t disqualify it as a van. The body is all one piece. A truck with a topper doesn’t qualify. However, if you were to seamlessly mold the topper to the cab and bed, and make them one space inside, you would have effectively created a phantom panel truck, which would be legal, assuming it is a full size truck. Please don’t try this with a little Chevy Luv, topper or not, no one would call that a van. Now his might seem like a very limited field of available kits. It is, until you factor in the aftermarket (resin) like Jimmy Flintstones ’66 Chevy panel truck, show rods like the Vandal (though the Vandal will need some tweaking to be legal) and the Baja Beast, and the myriad offerings from Aoshima, Fujimi, Hasegawa and Italeri. The rules: - Your build must feature a vehicle that is a van or a panel truck. It must be built as a vehicle that could race from coast to coast. - The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A rebuilder or parts box special is okay too. 1/24 or 1/25. If you absolutely must do a 1/20 model we’ll likely bend the rules as we have before, but that’s the limit. - If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year as long as they meet the theme requirement. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. - Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on technology used. - Note: vans are not the best for displaying engine work. Unlike previous runs, a kit without an engine, like some Asian kits tend to be, is permissible. - The car must appear to be street legal. Headlights, tail lights, license plate etc. Optional - Just like we did for the Brock Yates Memorial Run, a couple years back, if you’d like to add some sort of detail to your build to honor the late Burt Reynolds that would be a cool idea. As always, have fun and watch out for two priests in a red Ferrari. That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI. - You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBP thread updated. Your work will help inspire others. - The car can be as eye catching or non-descript as you wish. Bright colors and/or racing livery will make you more noticeable to local law enforcement, but that’s your problem. - Build time begins on January 1st, 2019, local time and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2019, local time. That’s 11 months folks. - After the finish, we will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”, a public vote. - A few weeks prior I’ll start a completed builds thread, for posting up your work and we’ll work the poll from that thread. Take some GOOD PHOTOS! I cannot emphasize this enough, good photos are essential. No one has won this with crappy photos in poor lighting. - You may build as many models as you wish for this CBP but only one can be entered in the public voting poll after Dec. 2. - You can enter this CBP at any time up to 48 hours before the end date.
  19. There are unbuilt kits on ebay for very little money. I doubt anyone would pay you for them if they still have to hunt down parts. Even among the die cast crowd, Hubleys don't have a huge following even here. Not to mention due to weight, shipping will be expensive. My advice is restore them yourself, or recycle bin.
  20. It's fine to get an inexpensive brush to learn with, but at least get one designed for paint. Search Amazon for air brushes and find a real one you can afford.
  21. Super clean work. Very nice. Where did the baby moons come from?
  22. Moels looking good. Sorry about the ER visit. However maybe you can spin it into a story about a train, a lion and a bullwhip.
  23. That's a great choice.
  24. I like the white chassis idea as well. Looking forward to more.
  25. It's not his voice. It's that he repeats everything they find/learn back as a question immediately afterward, and then spends the next five minutes rehashing everything that lead up to that moment from the beginning of recorded time. He introduces every cast member, everytime they appear on screen. I literally fast forward the hour show down to 15 minutes of actual content.
