I dig it. Very different but well done.

Cale, please check out the rules on roof racks. Roof racks are permitted provided they meet the following specification:- They must be of a design available at the time the car was in production I knew this would eventually pop up. A modern off-road style roof rack is not legal per P2P rules. If you do some Googling, you'll see that basket style roof racks are the accepted norm, assuming such was in use when the cart was new.

Excellent. Gents, Lee here is one of my pals from my local scale auto club. He's a good egg. Lucky #7 it is!

Gauging interest - A Just-Whats-In-The-Box CBP
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Community Builds
Alan, I have not. Between the P2P and the Cannonball, my dance card for this coming year is full. However if this is something anyone else would like to take on and run, I would certainly be cool with that. -
AMT and MPC Please Put Out Significant Kits
Jantrix replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Lets put this into visual perspective. It's one thing to be told, and other to see. These are two halves of the molds used for making plastic parts. These are 18"(ish) square and weight several hundred pounds. Machining a set of these is staggeringly expensive and time consuming. There are mechanical parts, tiny ejector pins to push the parts out of the mold, and channels for the molten plastic to be pushed in. All this, and it must be built robustly enough for these molds to spit out a part every few seconds. This is why kit's from the 50's and 60's are still repopped with lots of flash from worn out molds. Because it's just so expensive to replace them. So you can imagine why they just don't go making up new molds for parts that only a small portion of the modeling community would be interested in. The only thing that makes model kit's still lucrative is by knowing your market and your customer base. Revell has been giving us the kits that us 40+ types really want, because we are now their target consumer. And it has worked very well. Round 2 is trying to do the same in thier own way, and I for one have been happy with their offerings. Caveat: I'm not an expert in injection molding and don't claim to be. I have limited experience running the machines from a previous employer. I just thought some photos would provide clarity. -

Damm Brian. That is seriously slick. It's got a really cool look front, back, side. Well done. I'd really like you to PM the source for the BBS wheels.
-
Okay. I'll take this to PM.

I heard this on a local alternative station. It's been out a while but this is the Atari's cover of Don Henley's Boys of Summer.

From experience, doing the salt technique with rattlecans is VERY difficult because it goes on so heavy. There are other alternatives for weathering with rattlecans, if you'd like I can step you through some techniques.
-
No, though I thought of that just as I posted. Will check.

You are quite right. I have plenty of others, but the cool thing about these valve covers is that they are finned Weiands. There's a real lack of name brand performance parts (Weiand, Offenhauser, M/T etc.) in scale modeling that to have a nice set that is not correct is just a little frustrating. And as they are molded to fit this big block, they won't fit 98% of the SBC's out there, as they are too big.

Man, that is slick! Very, very well executed and it looks terrific.

Anthony, I just saw your finished photos. That turned out terrific. Real nice work.

Correct sir! The '60 is a panel truck which is legal for next year. Also worth noting is that Fred has WON the Cannonball three times. Two of the wins with both the Nissan and the panel truck. The third was a trick little beast based on the Fireball 500 show car. Imagination, plus clean building and paint work, and excellent photography is the formula to winning this CBP.

AMT and MPC Please Put Out Significant Kits
Jantrix replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Agreed. And if you argue with him he's going to report you for "harassing" him. -
Photo please - this would verify Round2 or Model King fixed the issue? How many bolt indentations on the valve cover? There should be seven, four bottom, three top.

Modern (Performance) IRS suggestions?
Jantrix replied to Dirty Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We'll have to agree to disagree about the "look". Be advised, the twin turbos on the AMT 2JZ are plumbed backwards right from the kit. You'll have to get a bit creative to fix the issue.- 30 replies

Modern (Performance) IRS suggestions?
Jantrix replied to Dirty Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not necessarily. With Bills advice I built a drift Pacer wagon. I added traction bars and a panhard bar to a Ford rear and stock leafs. I also used the AMT 2JZ with some mods.- 30 replies

The engine is a big block, but the bolt pattern on the valve covers is for a small block. The art, the instructions and the actual part are incoorect. And yes, the '53 Pick up is the same way.

Niko, happy to have you. The Bel Air is fine. Lucky number 13. As for the dents, I think they are right inline with this rally. If you look at some of the cars mid-race, many are sporting scars like that. I read where one guy rolled the car three times and still finished the stage. LouO - got your '41 too. I'm glad I changed my entry, the '41 Plymouth is a popular choice. For good reason as well. A '41 car with IFS and a reliable engine that saw production until 1960? That's a no brainer. We are up to 14 entrants so far. I think that's a successful start. A quick note: after seing the article that Scott posted it's clear that there is a LOT of modifications that you can make to these cars. However, don't feel you need to if your time is limited. Many racers are bone stock or nearly so. You could build a model completely stock, omit the hubcaps, throw on some mudflaps and a number and you are done. That's what I like about this theme.

Same here. I hope the valve cover issue is sorted.
-
Wait a second, I though we were model builders here. Why can't you build it yourself?

Now I think this is silly
Jantrix replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not a new idea, but at least you don't get bugs in your teeth.
