  1. The demand for these pre-war auto classics may be small but for those of us who enjoy building these great classics they'll be a must have. I'll need to talk to my LHS owner the next time I'm in the city.
  2. I'll be interested in seeing how this build goes. I picked up the kit a few months ago but haven't started on it yet.
  3. The work of a master craftsman. You humble most of us.
  4. I have an L shaped workbench that was built to fit into the space I had. The long leg is 18"x60" and the short leg is 24"x45". The short leg is where I do most of the work and is covered with a glass top while the long leg holds paint racks, tools etc. It is my believe though, that no workbench can be too big and any workbench will soon fill up projects and stuff. Even if I start with a completely clean bench I'm usually down to a clear space about 18x12 within a couple of days of work.
  5. A couple of months ago when I has to fill out my application for my Old Age Pension. Until then I kept pretending that I wasn't really getting old even though I'd retired from my job six years before (that should have been the first sign but somehow wasn't). Ten years earlier one of my students asked me if I was suffering from "Old Timers Disease" when I forgot something (maybe that should have been the second sign but I ignored it to).
  6. Cut off the top to turn it into a convertible, add the back deck from the snap ragtop, add chrome roll over hoops, spruce up the interior with some exterior matching colour, add lots of carbon fibre, come up with a better grill, widen the fenders a bit, do something diferent with the fender grills. It would be subtle but different. You could also try to add some of the features of the new C7 with hood/fender grills, wierd shaped tail lights etc.
  7. And after passing through Bismark last summer it could certainly use a good hobby shop! The kit certainly cool and if I see one I'll probably pick one up.
  8. Amazing!! If you hadn't included the pics I'd have had trouble believing that what lay at the core is ten pounds of putty and an old Cobra kit. Even without seeing it finished yet I think we can all honestly agree that this will deserve to be an award winner
  9. I've owned both an '88 and a '98 Jeep Cherokee and would like to build either.
  10. Used to have subscriptions for everything I wanted to read but as the cost of magazines went up that got too pricey so have cut back to only a couple. Buy Model Cars at the LHS and the rest of any mags I buy are at a chain book store, if they contain articles that I'm interested in.
  11. What a fluke. I currently working on this kit although possibly an earlier release, mine has a 69 cent price tag on it and I originally started it at least 35 years ago. Mine also didn't come with any clear parts although the windows will be easy to do with thin clear plastic. It appears to be fairly accurate so I suspect that their 32nd range was better designed then the large scale Palmers that we have all come to laugh at. As far as build problems, the multi part body has given me some problems with the joint lines on the sides of the hood constantly cracking and I've had to create all new drip edge from stretched sprue since the original was sanded off getting the body sides to fit the roof. The body has also ended up a little warped but I should be able to solve that problem with epoxy when I join it to the fender/chassis unit. I decided recently to either finish this long stalled kit or toss it out so I'm doing it up as a military vehicle. References have indicated that all WWII military cars were 4 door and the kit is a two door but I'm not going to be fussy. This will be the first Palmer that I've built since my early teens when Palmer models were all I could afford to buy. LOL
  12. With the release of the new Revell '62 I was hoping that they would let this ancient AMT mold die a quiet death so as not to face comparison with the new kit. I built one a number of years ago and keep it on the shelf with the nose facing the back so that I don't have to see the inaccurately shaped front end. If you want a toss together weekend project go for it but if you want a better looking, more detailed and more accurate '62 Vette dig up a little extra money and get the new Revell kit, you won't regret the decision.
  13. Paint looks good. They are gonna be pretty!!!
  14. I recall seeing somewhere that the 20,000 League under the Sea sub is being done this year. I believe that it is either Mobius or Pegasus.
  15. That sounds like the AMT kit. I've found that the poor fitting hood seems common to all their C4 kits. One tip if you build another C4, use thin strips of black decal with a healthy amount of decal setting solution to do the black rub strips. It saves a lot of work in having to mask, there's no risk of paint creep and no chance of pulling up the paint. Despite the challenges you had your build turned out well. It's nice to see Vette kits being built in particular the Pace Cars.
  16. I had started this kit some years back, another shelved project. My initial thoughts were that despite the inconvience of it having the multiple part body it was actually quite accurate and buildable, certainly compared to other C1 kits of the day. Today one could start with the Revell/Monogram '59 kit.
  17. An interesting use of a kit that has largely been ignored since it originally came out. I like the near matte finish.
  18. My story is an IMC Beatle kit that had not been finished but went back in the original box but apparently got up and ran away from home. That was many, many years ago and it's yet to come back. Isn't it amazing that no wonder how odd the modelling story there will still be quite a number of us who have had a similar experience. You did an excellent job on this ikit and you're at least lucky enough to have a good photo to remember what you had. P.S. I'll keep my eyes open on the local dumpsters just in case your Cobra has managed to find its way this far north and west .
  19. I'll say only one thing about the new C7, "you won't find me buying one and I'm a Vette fan!!" Oh I forgot to mention, I couldn't afford one. At $55 grand+ its well beyond the price range of this guy but I will be patiently waiting for a kit of it.
  20. Easily done with a small diameter aluminum tube and a few small pieces of plastic for the dividing bars. The result is hardly noticible in those big chrome bumpers which might explain why Revell didn't do it in the beginning. Keep in mind though that this mold is over 50 years old and few kits from these early days had the high levels of detail we insist on today.
  21. I can share your frustration with this old timer. I built this kit as the 1959 movie car early last year and went through a tube of Tamiya putty and a pile of sandpaper. My motto quickly became......fill, dry, sand, clear the dust,repeat....repeat....repeat.... . At the end of it all I rather enjoyed the challenge of turning a sow's ear into a silk purse. Well perhaps not silk but at least presentable :-). When I was builting it I kept thinking, this is a big model until I finished the Polar Lights Batmbile last month and realized just how much difference there is between 1/27 and 1/25 scale. Actually, now I'm keeping my eyes open for another of these old kits so that I can add the original colour scheme to this little collection.
  22. I've built the Monogram (Revell) Testrossa Spyder and had fit problems, haven't built the coupe but assume some of the same fit problems would be there. I've built a number of the Fujimi Ferrari kits and they are nicely detailed, go together well although many are curbsides.
  23. They are the same kits that have been used to do the C6 Corvette promos over the last few years. I don't consider the kit to be quite as good as the Revell curbside cv, ex they have the vinyl seats, but that's not to say they're bad kits. As has been suggested they are great kits to do up as a slump buster and they won't look bad on your shelf either. They'll go together with no problems and would be a fun project for an unusual paint colour. I wasn't aware that Round2 had put out this package until I ran across it in my LHS, the owner had only brough one in knowing that I was a sucker for any Vette kit.
  24. I would love to see a kit of the Amphicar !!!!!!
  25. Do I ever need to start building....no time to sleep, must build....no time to sleep, keep building!!!!
