  1. The multi piece bodies just require a little extra time and care during the initial assembly and then they're usually no different then a one piece body. I've built the 59/60 Corvette and the Revell Futura, just finished an old Pyro 1/32 scale Ford as a WWII US Army staff car and have the Revell Healey on the go. By investing a little extra time in these old kits you can often have some fairly unique models to set on your display shelves
  2. My LHS, in Canada, brought in a couple bottles of the black panel line color so I gave it a try a few weeks ago. It works well and seems to have very good capillary action. I didn't try thinning it but will try that next time around. A bottle was a little pricey but should last a long time. It contains a small brush in the cap but it's not fine enough to be of much use. To answer the other question, I don't think its just rebottled Smoke. Next time in the store I'll get the owner to order me in the other two colors.
  3. A few years ago I built the submarine from the movie Operation Petticoat and I had to paint it pink and then spray it with Matte, if I'd only waited I could have used Pink Primer which in the movie they did using 50% red oxide & 50% white primer.
  4. I agree completely with this and have experienced the same problem of trying to find a kit that had once been on every LHS shelf but was now difficult to find. I do admit that I have more kits in the stash then I will ever build but consider that I'm saving them for others to build in the future. LOL
  5. That is terrible news. I hope no one was injured. I can only imagine how sad it must be too lose a life time of belongings and memories. I hope that better times will lie ahead for you.
  6. I look upon these wacky show rods as just a fun build and stress reliever so never worry much if all the accuracy I would want to achieve in regular model build is not achieved. I like what you've achieved with this kit.
  7. Nice work. Those Gunze kits are a fun build. I wish this whole range would be reissued.
  8. Very clean build and nice photography.
  9. Hey I want a kit of that for my Cars Only an Owner Would Love Collection. It would take the place of honor at the front of that shelf.
  10. I have a whole selection of glues on the shelf and use whatever is best for the particular job : -5 Minute Epoxy for when strengh is important or gluing windshields in frames that don't want to fit and stay in place. Epoxy cleans off easily if you have a little squeeze out. -various thin and thick super glues for quick jobs and photo etch -Tenax and Tamiya liquid glues. -white glues like Krystal Klear or Formula 560 Canopy Glue which are excellent for doing clear lights and windshields. -Future and acrylic clear paints can be used for p/e and other small parts. -I've even used 2-faced tape on occasion. -the one glue that I and most modellers have abandoned is the old Testors tube glue although there is a couple of tubes on the shelf in case I find a use for them (not likely though)
  11. Very clean and well done build. Love the choice of colour combinations and the little extras that you've included like seat belt catches. I'd be as proud to have that on my display shelves as I'm sure you are.
  12. Oh yes the old Gunze kit with the vinyl like interiors. They made a very nice range of small sports cars like the TR-3, Bugeye Sprite, XK-E, Karmann Ghia conv and all had the black rubber interiors. The Elan seemed to be the most common and I was still running into them on store shelves up to a year or so ago. I wish those molds would resurface as they were fun little kits to build. Well done on yours.
  13. r 'n d Unique did both a 1/25 scale Nomad & Corvair in resin some years back but I suspect they are both hard to find today. Unfortunately 1/43 is too small for my old eyes.
  14. I'm with the other posters, it's great to see old kits being restored rather then just being tossed or broken up for parts. It's also unlikely that we'll ever see a new 1/25 scale 1965 Vette so doing a restoration like this may be the only way many of us can add one to our collection.
  15. Impressive collection. I have the same kind of obsession but mine is for Corvette kits, nearly 400 different releases in 1/25 & 1/24 scale, over 200 different promos and about 50 Corvette kits in other scales. I think being crazy is fun.
  16. As a young teen I had a huge crush on Annette and have enjoyed her movies, bad acting, bad stories and all. It was during the filming of Back to the Beach in '87 that her MS symtoms first appeared so she's suffered a long time with that terrible disease so at least she finally released from it. RIP Annette.
  17. Enjoy it....here on the Cdn. prairies we're still in the middle of winter, -14 C last night and some areas got to -20 and more snow expected over the next week to add to the piles that we still have.
  18. Some interesting cars available from OttoMobile too bad they appear to be available only in 1/18 scale.
  19. I collect Corvette promos although don't have any of the pre '70 ones as they're too pricy for my budget. Some of the real cheap ones out of the '80s & '90s I've treated like kits, detailed and repainted (I don't enjoy detailing engines so rather enjoy doing curbsides).
  20. I agree with you Rob. On ebay you're usually buying one model and when it costs as much to ship one as several it defeats any benefit of using ebay. I'm already missing not having Model Express as a source for new and especially old kits.
  21. Love that colour!!
  22. I cut my modelling teeth on the old kits of companies like Hawk and Lindberg and while I may never want to rebuild them I'm just glad to hear that the surviving molds will be in the safe hands of Round2, ie an owner who cares about the hobby. On the other hand I can think of several IMC kits I'd love to have again and who knows what else will be found. This aquisition is a clear indication that Lowe has confidence in the future of the hobby and that's good news for all of us.
  23. What's not to like, it makes a bold statement yet the effect looks like it could have come from the factory. Great paint work.
  24. To get inside Ira's mind would be a place not understandable to most of us mere plastic dabblers. I like everyone else will be eagerly following this build to see what he finally comes up with.
  25. (1) C7 Corvette (it can come out at the same time as the real ones hit the dealerships, please) (2) 1961 Corvette (this won't even have to be a new mold just Revell's '62 modified) (3) a Jeep Cherokee (I know SUVs won't sell in plastic but I drove them for 20 years and would love to build one)
