  1. The last time I heard from my promo dealer he indicated the blue coupe would be out by the end of December but since they're already been pushed back several times who knows. I'll be patient the kit looks like it has potential with a little extra work. rob
  2. I found this book on Amazon a short time back and will be ordering it after Christmas when it becomes available.. I enjoy the history of model kits and model companies almost as much as building models. Picked up the history of ESCI by JC Carbonel about a month ago, yes I know pretty much all military. I really wish someone who has access to the resources would write a history of AMT & MPC, I think that would be an interesting read. rob
  3. Stick a propeller on the back and head for the lake. It's a unique looking vehicle and you've done a nice job building it. I wouldn't be too concerned about the wood finish, when real wood is used on a car you should be able to tell that it is real wood.
  4. Some beautiful saves. I still have a few hulks from my early modelling days but unfortunately I went through a period of turning cars into trucks and they were not done well. Perhaps I'll know better in my next life. rob
  5. WOW !!! How did you do the checkerboard pattern on the seats.........and more important, where can you find 45's for the record player? LOL rob
  6. What's not to like. The Revell kit almost wants to fall together, the colour is a very nice choice, an interesting decorating choice for the interior and except for the slightly crooked front bumper your build quality is good. BTW, I get rid of kit antennas and use steel guitar string. I stab myself from time to time but it looks better and won't break off. rob
  7. The August 2014 edition of the Airfix Model World magazine had a nice article on the building of this kit but you seem to be doing very well without any assistance. I'll be watching your build with interest since I have the Heller 1/24 scale Bentley in the stash as a someday build. rob
  8. Check out Frog tape. I pick mine up at Wally-World. It's about the same color as the Tamiya stuff and comes in a plastic case and the roll is big. It seems to work very similar to the Tamiya stuff. You can find it in the Paint department. The only drawback is that it is a wider paint but then it is made for household paint masking. rob
  9. 1 to 1 versions of what some of us old timers built in the early '60's, every customizing part in the kit had to be used, if not in the kit they came in then another kit. The results were often just as ugly as these real nighmares. rob
  10. The Piranha is the root car of the dragster that AMT did but by the looks of the picture it's going to be reissued in its original form. as the coupe/Man from Uncle car. I think modellers will be very happy with this one, the gull wing doors can be posed open and it has a neat little engine. It can be built as the Uncle car or just a neat little sports coupe and I'm sure others will use their imagination to create some unique customs. I have an original in my stash but have always hesitated to build it so I'll certainly be buying several of them. I'll be putting a bug in my LHS owner the next time that I'm in his shop that he'd be wise to bring in a case of them. rob
  11. Compared to some of the recent looking Lambos that look like they just came out of a futuristic sci-fi movie this one looks positively car like. I agree with others who think the rear window is a strange shape. Now if there was enough change in my beer change jar I'd order me one. rob

    C4 ZR1

Nice colour and nice build. Doing a snap version of that car was a good idea since the hood on most of the AMT C4 kits never seems to fit quite right. The kit that you used is, I believe, kit #6658 released in 1992.
  13. Well done! It is nice to see a model of this seldom seen car built. The Ghia is a very attractive car and one has a tough time believing it was a VW. Unfortunately few of them seem to have survived and it's rare to see them at car shows. I built the Gunze kit a few years ago since I wanted the convertible version on my shelf.. It had problems that I probably wouldn't have encountered with the Tamiya kit but in the end I was satisfied
  14. Great job! Your finish is excellent and mirror smooth and you've put detail where it is barely visible a clear sign of a determination to do a good job. While I'm not a fan of purple Lambo does love these bright and vibrant colours so it was an excellent choice. A model to be proud of.
  15. Very, very nice!! An interesting and well applied paint scheme that is very appropriate for a car of this era. This is a project to be proud of.
  16. That is a magnificent job. Like your experience the prices kept me away from the Gunze hi-tech kits but I did find and build a number of their low tech English sports cars. They are very nice kits, easy to build, fairly accurate and with a little extra effort a quality addition to the model shelf. My one criticism is the rubber parts but they can be replaced or worked around. The molds for these kits must still exist, I wish they'd come out again. Again, congratulations on the quality of your build. rw
  17. He is simply doing what most of us starting doing back in the dark ages of modelling, slap it together, throw paint (any paint) on it and hang it from the ceiling. You're clearly starting him in the right directionkeep it up and I hope you continue to have sucess in bringing him into the hobby.
  18. From what I've read it was not one of the molds lost in the train wreck but that's not to say it wasn't damaged or messed up so much that Monogram decided to just scrap it. As to the question as to why we appear to be stuck in the past. Most of us modellers are old farts and remember these kits with fondness, whether they deserve our kind thoughts or not.
  19. To go back to the original question. When I first received my email from Bob's Promotional cars regarding the C7 Corvettes I asked him if they were plastic and in a return message, but without giving any further details he confirmed that they were. I quess we'll have to wait and see but his web site continues to say that they will be available by early fall.
  20. Very nice overall look and a perfect execution of your concept. This is a model anyone of us should be proud to have in our display case. Well done.
  21. I love that and you did a great build. I hope my LHS can get one in for me, they've been pretty good at getting Revell Germany kits in the past. It would make an excellent addition to my "Cars only an owner would love" collection.
  22. Zora Arkus Duntov is turning in his grave. Oh well, it's your model and a very cleaver use of an old body. I applaud your creativity.
  23. I have that kit, unbuilt, and it is a dog. (Not surprising considering its age). You've done a very credible job of turning that ancient mold into an attractive model.
  24. I agree with you to some degree but on the positive side, with Humbrol one doesn't have to worry about lids getting glued on because paint filled the gooves in the screw caps. I'm a long time Humbrol user dating back to the primeval days of the hobby and they still have the finest pigments of any enamel paint and flow on smoother then other paints.
  25. They were a great way to relax after a serious or really stressful build and with only a little effort you could produce a nice shelf model. They're also handy if you're in a position where you can't paint but still want to build. I've built a few of them but in most cases stripped at least the body and repainted. Still have others in the stash for those times when I'm in a slump. As Walid mentioned one criticism is that they made no effort to clean off mold lines or flash before they were painted and with some kits that can be a real down side. I've also seen some where the paint job was not well done. I believe the purpose of these kits was to encourage younger modellers into the hobby that wanted quicker gratification. I believe at one time AMT even did some that were pre-built for you, sort of a super promo model.
