Louvers, Louvers and Louvers...
Raul_Perez replied to curt raitz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
For obvious reasons, my vote is for Silly Putty!! Later, -
That's too funny!! I can't remember how many times I also wanted to take a hammer to one of my "creations" when it wasn't coming out the way I wanted it to... Later,

Thanks, Bernard!! Yeah...my first pass at the hood scoop was too small for this big truck hood, even after it was pie cut. It was a direct transplant from the '06 Z06 Vette with only a minor tweaking of the support bars. The new design carries the same concept, but is a bit deeper and the upper peak better follows the shape of the rear edge of the hood. Yes, I like the smaller size of the tail lights much better now. Until my boys are finished with college, (and the subsequent, routine draining of my wallet), I can only afford to build in the small scale world. Later,

Brian, You said that you're going to wet sand the color coat and then apply a layer of clear. Wet sanding metallic color coats drastically changes the color and appearance of the paint. Are you going to first spray a light color coat before you add the clear? For metallic colors, it is highly recommended that you not apply clear directly over color coats that have been sanded without first applying a light color coat. Regards,

Louvers, Louvers and Louvers...
Raul_Perez replied to curt raitz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
But the real question should be: "how you're going to attach those really nicely built louvers to the hunk of Pine that you'll be using to craft that stylized body?!!" You are too much!! Good luck, my old friend!! Later, -
Revell '32 Five Window Finished! Think Purple!
Raul_Perez replied to Don Banes's topic in Model Cars
WOW!! Is that the Tamiya purple? I built a 32 highboy roadster the same color a few years ago. It was so bright that I didn't need to turn on the light in my display case to see it!! Thanks for sharing, -
I agree with Lyle...you are the wagonmaster!! Another GREAT build!! You need to bring some of this stuff out for the NNL West in February!! Later,

That's some pretty wild stuff!! Yeah...it'll be a while before anyone tops this!! Later,

Now that's one pretty cool looking hotrod that you've got there, Dave!! Where do you get all of those oversized tires and wheels?? Later,

PERFECT COLOR!! Thanks for sharing,
-
Thanks, Randy!! Yeah, the tail lights do have a Cadillac look to them, but it's all GM so it's all good for this build!! Later,

This build is looking pretty good, Brendan!! When are you going to come over to the dark side and try your hand at a custom build? See you at the NNL West!! Later,

Thanks, Charlie!! I tried not to divert too far from the original look of the truck for this build. Thanks, Dave!! Yes, this really was an excercise in styling for me. There won't be a lot of detail or mini photo-etched goodies on this one...just a few simple design changes to give it a more modern appearance. More than likely the bed cover will also be glued in place on this one. No need to hinge the lid only show show that there's nothing in the back... Between the two of us, we've burned through a few of those Corvette kits to come up with some modernized spin on some other vehicle. Later,

I finally got around to spraying a bit of red on the body this afternoon. This is just a base coat to find any small areas that still need a bit of cleanup and fitting. Here you can see how I put a spline in the center of the hood scoop to match the design of the split windshield. Since the chassis is now fitted to the body, this is the final stance and rake. One of the significant diferences between this build and the one I did 15 years ago is the use of a newer bed. With the newer styled bed, I also went with a more stylized tail light design. Here's a shot from the rear of the older one with the stock bed box. There's still a lot of work to be done on this one, but overall I'm pretty pleased with how its coming along. I'll post a few pics of the chassis once I get the splices cleaned up and get a bit of paint on it. Later,

The valve covers look GREAT!! Thanks for sharing,

Yeah...it looks a lot different with paint...That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!! Later,

OK...another one that went straight to "Under Glass"!! (Or did I miss it "On the Bench"??) GREAT JOB, Lyle!! Yeah, we're going to be seeing louvered trunks for some time, especially now that Norm is making one to fit the Model A!! Thanks for sharing,
-
Virgil, Where did the second one come from?? I watched one of them being built, but now there's two... GREAT work, as always!! Thanks for sharing your skills with us!! Later,

1/12 `69 Camaro Z/28 Cross-Ram.....Huggar Orange
Raul_Perez replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Cars
These look as close to 1:1 as I've ever seen in 1:12 scale!! Very nice work!! Thanks for sharing, -
That's too funny!!

Excellent work, as usual, Virgil!! I'm going to have to try your sponge technique when I get back to building rust buckets!! That looks like it really works well. Yours is such a stark contrast to the '50 Chevy truck I'm building. I would be great to see them side-by-side when they're both done, (yours beind done first, of course). Too bad you're so far away from sunny CA... Oh well, maybe someone can Photoshop them together once they're both built!! Later,

It'll be a while before Rex needs to make room for this one!! Yeah, pizza sounds GREAT!! I'll call you Monday after I check my schedule. Later,

That is such a seet engine and chassis to build!! Another very fine job, Virgil!! So, how many Revell '41 Willys builds does that make for you? Later,
