Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)
GeeBee replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just had another GTi arrive this morning, before it went into the stash pile I took the body out and had a good look at it, and yes there are flashed over holes inside the body on the front wing and rear quarter panel, and four clear "Marker lights" included on the sprue marked "Parts not to be used" and as the bumpers are on a sprue of their own (Sprue P) it looks like the Rabbit will be a goer, but not the Cabriolet, which doesn't have the flashed over holes on the body. I'm going to be casting some of the parts from the Cabriolet kit, wheels, dash, centre console and seats, so I can turn one of my GTi kits into a lower spec Golf, shouldn't be too hard to remove the wheel arch trims as there very faint anyway. You could always use the one's in there for the "Mainland" Shay ..... -
Very shiney Shay ....

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum, to answer your questions, yes you can get a good finish using spray cans, as you in the U.K, go and have a look at Halfords, there colour matched aerosol paints are acrylic and give a great finish, use them over Halfords plastic primer, either grey or white depending on the top coat your using. Secondly, an airbrush set up really doesn't have to cost a fortune, I've been using one of these compressors for the last few years, not too noisey and only £79.00 http://www.airbrushsupplyonline.com/compressors/mini-airbrush-compressor-with-tank-as186-oil-free There are so many airbrushes on the market, but again, you really don't have to spend a fortune on one, for most of my car bodies I use a Paasche H, the complete kit will set you back £90 if you want the kit with all the different tips and needles http://www.airbrushsupplyonline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_325&products_id=4019 Hope this helps ....

Between working on the Universal, and getting the flocking done on this one, I finished the day by starting to fit the road wheels, one thing I hate on a model is seeing the wheels fitted out of line, so I always use a square when fitting wheels to my models

Got the wet sanding done, the bonnet was fine and will be polished, the tailgate didn't need to be wet sanded, the body was a different story, pretty much like the 601s saloon I've got on the bench, the roof went without a hitch, but the lower body will need a respray, but I have plenty of the paint left

67 Corvette Convertible Finished! Posted in Under Glass
GeeBee replied to microwheel's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Not sure how I missed this one, but it's looking good Jim, I love all the little detail touches you put into your builds -
What ? Glasses or heart tablets ?
-
I still want to convert one into a van, I think by then I should be able to put one together without looking too much at the instructions
-
A nice example of a well worn Bug, love all the detail you've put into this build ...
-
It's got to be wet sanded and polished yet ...
-
Cheer's Jim, I'm really enjoying this build ....
-
Must be the new tri-focal glasses and better heart tablets from the doctors ......
-
Probably one of Trabants brighter colours, it would certainly brighten up a grey misty day in East Germany
-
Looks very nice Shay

Looking at the part it's a pre 66, as the front under tray was altered that year, the full size wheel trims didn't come until 1963, so it's a 1963-66

The 601s saloon is still on the bench, and next I was going to start the Revell Golf Cabriolet, but still need to order in the paint for that and a few other models, so as I had the paint for this in stock, I thought I would make a start on it. The bodyshell was broken when it arrived, but instead of sending it back, I got a replacement and then bought this one at cost price instead of sending it back. This one will be done in genuine Trabant Capri Green, yes the paint I'm using is made in what was East Germany, and made to the original formula, it's a real PITA to apply, as it doesn't like to be applied in a smooth fine spray, it really likes to be put on in heavy coats, but with a little patience it can be made to spray o.k
-
If you can't get Trabant paint mixed up, some of the shades are compatible with the RAL codes, there's not many auto paint stores that can't mix RAL shades Cliff Green = RAL 6018 Pebble Grey = RAL 7032 Champagne Beige = RAL 1024 Papyrus White (Actually Grey) = RAL 9018 also Glacier blue is a pretty close match to Fiat 401 Glicine Blue Hope this helps anyone who wants to paint the model Trabant in original colours

10 x Magnifier lamps, I've been using one for the last few years, not sure what I would do without it -
Just had an email from my contact at Ebbro, this one is hopefully being released in the new few months, I for one can't wait .....
