revell stateside vs. revell germany
GeeBee replied to MsDano85gt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't fault any of the later Revell Ag kits, I've built the Mini Cooper, VW Beetle and I'm in the middle of building the Trabant 601, all cracking kits, parts fit on all of them were first class, I'll be buying more Revell Ag kits in the future ..... -
As I'm getting more magazine work I really needed a better way of taking photo's of the finished model, so I've ordered one of these,

After meeting up with Shay (aka Dublin Boy) yesterday, he's bought the latest VW Golf Cabriolet from Revell, I wasn't going to buy one, but after having a good look at the kit, I knew I just had to have one, I worked for VW-Audi back in the 80's, anyway managed to get one off eBay for £14.99

Resin Mini kits (BMC not BMW!)
GeeBee replied to Paul H's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
They were made by Scalekraft in South Africa, the guy (Guido) that was doing them is a good friend of mine, and after a serious climbing accident many years ago, which apart from other parts, damaged his hands and was unable to carry on with the model making, he was lucky to survive the accident, they do pop up from time to time on ebay, but usually go for silly money, his casting was very good. -
Cracking build, the wing in bare Duraplast is a neat idea

Interesting project, it would certainly get past Checkpoint Charlie quicker than a standard Trabbi ....
-
Been cracking on with the little Trabbi, it's now got an engine .....
-
I've had one of these since they were available, still need to get round to building it for a magazine article ....
-
Nice build, I built one of these a few years ago, it's a good kit to put together ....
-
Just ordered one of these, no plans on building it any day soon, but as money from the sale of these kits go to a Children cancer charity, it's a worthy cause ....

After putting on the aluminium BMF on the trim above the wings and doors, I left it sitting on the side while carrying on with other jobs, I kept looking at it, and I knew I couldn't just leave it with the aluminium trim without any further work, it just looked wrong .... So with a deep breath and a lot of trepidation, I came up with an idea, but still wasn't sure if it would work, luckily it did, I masked off the body either side of the bmf and ran a broad tipped art pen, it took a few coats but it did the job, with the reflections going on, it didn't photograph very well .... Also got a few of the smaller parts sorted, as there are no chrome parts supplied in the kit, although to be honest there isn't any chrome parts on a Trabbi, but the headlamp reflectors needed a little more that the call out for silver paint in the instructions, so they were primed, (so the BMF had something to bite on to) and then covered in chrome BMF, then the bulbs were picked out using Tamiya clear yellow to replicate the bulbs, a black wash was added to the engine cylinders and ventilation grills that go onto the C pillars,

Oh one of my favorites, why there's never been a model of it, I really don't know .....

Popping down to your local museum and taking photos of the real thing, then trying to pass it off as a model just isn't fair Harry ...
