Installing clear parts without fogging: How!
Ben Brown replied to conchan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
In the interest of science, I recently bought some JB Weld UV-curing glue from Home Depot to see how it would work for airplane canopies and car clear parts. I had gotten good results from some other stuff I’d found in the “As seen on TV” section of Walgreens a few years ago. The old stuff hardened to a hard rubber consistency but held the parts well. This new JB Weld cured to a harder consistency and was very strong. Only problem is the tube seems to have a very short shelf life, like days. At ten bucks, it’s a little too pricey for one- or two-time use! Also, no kittens were harmed during the experiment. Ben -
I’d love to see more GT3 kits. A Huracan, NSX, and 488 would look great next to Nunu’s M6, R8s, and upcoming 911.

Information on Monogram's Exotics Series
Ben Brown replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks, guys! They were both a pleasure to build. I still have another TR7 I built back when it was first released. I've hung onto it with the intent of chopping the top for a convertible version, but the rear deck differences are a little complicated. Maybe someday.... ? Ben -
Information on Monogram's Exotics Series

I built the TR7 and RX-7 back in 2020. Great kits! The ‘75 TR7 I had in high school looked like my model except for different wheels. I had to print new decals because the originals were unusable. The only downside to the RX-7 kit was the wheels and tires are too big so it sits up too high. Ben -

Hasegawa 944 Turbo race vs street boxings?
Ben Brown replied to Ben Brown's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks! Now that I look again, it looks like the race car kit is missing the sheet of stick on “carpet.” I think I’ve seen a similar product at Hiroboy or SpotModel. Ben -
Hi all, Does the race version of the Hasegawa 944 Turbo kit still include all of the parts for the street version? The race version is going for quite a bit less that the street version on eBay. Looking at the instructions available online, it looks like everything is there, but I’d like to try to confirm before I start on my quest. Thanks! Ben

Oooo, I'm in for at least one if they do a left hand drive version! Like the others, I'd like to see a post-face lift version, too. I hope they include the alloy wheels and not just the steelies. I built the Monogram kit last year. It does look a bit "off" to my eye, but I think the problem is with the wheels. They're 15" instead of 13" to fit Monogram's generic-size tires they used in that series of kits. The combo makes the model sit too high; it looks jacked-up sitting between my TR7 and Miata models. My M8 kit only took eight days to get from Hong Kong to the US. I’ll have to order from HobbyEasy again! This is a good looking kit. I’m looking forward to starting it. Ben

Veeery interesting. I seem to recall seeing a 1/24 Huracan GT3 slot car body somewhere.... ? Ben

I agree, it stinks that a lot of cars are only available in resin. I don't mind building a resin kit, but I don't need a 911 RSR badly enough for my IMSA collection to spring for the Profil24 kit. As I've said elsewhere, I still think a Huracan GT3 and 488 GTE would sell well. The Lamborghini is raced all over the place, has been far more successful than the Murcielago and Gallardo GT3, has a bazillion cool liveries, and will be raced through 2024 with the Evo 2 mods. They could perhaps even set a kit up in such a way that they could produce a Super Trofeo car, with loads of decal options there, too. They'd be able to produce multiple decal versions like they're doing with the M6 GT3, which seem to sell out pretty quickly. The Ferrari should sell well because Ferrari. Plus, it also will be raced for several more years in GT3 and DTM. Licensing fees also factor heavily in the decision process. I wonder if Ferrari and Lamborghini are any more expensive than BMW and the others that are currently being produced? Ben

Thanks for the explanation. I was looking forward to that GT3R with the fluorescent green livery. I’ll take to Twitter to (politely) make some suggestions.... Ben

? Do you know if they’re canceled or just delayed? Ben

Finally! I'll be ordering shortly. Hopefully, this means we'll be seeing the 911 RSR and GT3R soon, too. Ben

*Model Car Preference*
Ben Brown replied to Zippi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I prefer 80s-current sports cars, racing and street. Apologies for the crappy cell phone pics. Ben -
I have one like David G’s that I got from Amazon. It can pull out fumes and dust from a rattle can and is big enough the fit a 1/48 F-4 Phantom inside. My only complaint is that the fan is pretty loud. One of these days I’m going to do a Tim Allen on it and strap a super-quiet bathroom fan onto it. For filters, I buy cut to size filter material from the hardware store. Cheaper and easier than trying to track down the right size filter for the box.

Love it! My ‘71 was orange with Rostyle wheels. Ben

I missed the initial post for this thread, but so far, I've finished a Fujimi Ferrari 330 P4 and Tamiya Mercedes AMG GT3 as part of a Daytona 24 and a Sebring group build from a 1/1 car forum I frequent. I'm in the middle of building Ben Keating's 2019 Ford GT Le Mans car. For the rest of the year, I'm hoping to build a Nunu Audi R8 GT3, another Nunu BMW M6 GT3, their M8 GTE (if they ever release it!), and hopefully start on my Lotus Esprit X180R conversion (using the Monogram kit) and/or McLaren 570S GT4 conversion (Revell kit). Hasegawa Mirror Finish Film - anyone tried it?
Ben Brown replied to Ben Brown's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I still haven’t had time to do more than peel a corner up to see what it’s made of. Turns out, I’ve already used this stuff before. Aoshima included a small square of it in their NB Miata kit for the mirrors and headlight buckets. It appears to be thin Mylar, adheres well, and is fairly flexible. I was able to get it to conform to the Miata’s headlight buckets without much trouble, but like Rick’s tape, it didn’t go over tight shape changes, like over the light bulb bumps, very well. It isn’t a complete replacement for BMF, but for my own uses (mirrors, race car stripes), I think it will work just fine. Think of it as another tool in your toolbox. Ben -
Hasegawa Mirror Finish Film - anyone tried it?
Ben Brown replied to Ben Brown's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the replies! I went ahead and ordered some from Amazon to play with ($12) and it's sitting in front of me right now. I'll play with it this week to see if it will work for what I'm hoping to do with it. Ben -
That stinks. The R-SV wasn't all that well-known or successful, unlike the Huracan GT3. With all of the colorful liveries, one would think a Huracan would sell pretty well. I was wondering if Aoshima having the Lamborghini licensing tied up was part of it. Ben

Maybe someday they’ll listen! Ben
