  1. I use a similar technique, except I mask the openings and cover the rest of the body with a paper towel to reduce overspray. If I do get any overspray, I use Windex to remove it. It has a little ammonia in it and it does a good job of removing Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics without damaging underlying lacquer paint. Ben
  2. No, I’ve never had that happen. I use lacquers and just mist the paint on, building up the paint slowly, so it dries quickly. I don’t spray enough paint to soak the post it. It also sort of helps you limit the size of the area where you’re spraying, so you don’t get much overspray. Ben
  3. I’ve had to do similar touch ups near decals in the past. Rather than risk having tape pull up the decal, I use a post it note to cover the decal. Just shoot away from the decal, so paint doesn’t get up under the post it. I let the post it lift up a little so the spot you spray has a feathered edge, but the decal is still protected. Ben
  4. Nice build! Studio 27 seems to be pretty hit and miss. Sometimes they’re great and other times they’re brittle break up easily. Age doesn’t seem to be a factor. Ben
  5. Another thumbs up for Indycals! The biggest difference between these and the water slide decals included in kits is Indycals are printed on a single sheet of decal film, so you have to cut out each individual decal. I’ve found they seem to react better to heat than setting solution. I don’t see either as a negative; just something to be aware of. Ben
  6. Beautiful build! I look forward to seeing the finished project! Ben
  7. For future reference, in case someone else has the same question, the black boxes are for Mr Color lacquers, the H colors are Gunze acrylic, not sure about the third line of paints. I have to write the colors for these Japanese kits down on a cheat sheet I can refer to so I’m not constantly flipping the instructions back to see what color they’re referring to. My memory isn’t good enough to remember what “H32” meant fifteen minutes ago! ? Ben
  8. I’ve been very happy with Excel blades I got through Amazon. They stay sharp far longer than the cheap knockoffs and they don’t bend or break as easily. I also had trouble with the knockoffs not fitting in the handle; the bases of the blade were too wide. Ben
  9. You’re off to a great start! It’s a good kit, it just takes a little more work than a Tamiya kit. I’ve built a couple of their M6s and the M8. You can see Nunu improving as you go from the M6 to the Audi to the M8. I have high hopes for their upcoming 911s. Ben
  10. Sadly, there aren’t very many kits of current or even recent Le Mans or GT3 cars. I’m still waiting for somebody to produce a Lamborghini Huracan GT3! ? Profil24 has several Le Mans cars (Link), but they’re expensive. I think there are a couple of other resin kits available, but I can’t recall who makes them or what subjects they are. Ben
  11. I passed the Bricklin again yesterday at the grocery store. It’s also currently for sale on Bring A Trailer. Ben
  12. Spotted this very nice Bricklin at the Home Depot last Sunday. I haven’t seen one since the 80s and never one moving under its own power. Ben
  13. I don’t recall posting mine, so here goes (possibly again) Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Acura NSX GT3 Ferrari 488 GT3 2nd generation Mazda MX-6 1st gen Lotus Turbo Esprit Lotus Elise 1st gen Acura Integra
  14. Thanks for the reply! I can work with this. The Audi wheelbase is 2" longer than the Huracan, so I was already going to have to make some adjustments to the chassis. I'm sure the cockpit will need tweaking, too. The Audi kit probably does have some dimensional inaccuracies, like all models do. I'll try to order a ScaleAuto body and start tinkering with it. That should guarantee Nunu or someone will release a 1/24 Huracan GT3 kit. ? Cheers! Ben
  15. Hi All, I’ve been looking for a way to build a 1/24 static model of a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and saw on ScaleAuto’s web site that they have a new 1/24 white body kit. Are ScaleAuto’s 1/24 car bodies generally pretty accurate or do they stretch or shrink the dimensions to fit on a standard-sized slot car chassis? I’m thinking if the body is to scale, I can mate it with a modified Nunu Audi R8 GT3 chassis and interior, since the real cars share the same platform. I’ve tried contacting ScaleAuto and both of their US vendors, but never got a response. Thanks! Ben
  16. Excellent build! I never knew that kit existed. Ben
  17. Beautiful model! One of McLaren’s best-looking road cars, IMHO. I had the same experience with those masks. It took me longer to get the adhesive off of the clear parts than it would’ve taken me to just mask them myself with Tamiya tape. Ben
  18. I use Mr Color clears, although I recently tried Tamiya’s LP semi gloss clear on an airplane. You can’t go wrong with either brand. Tamiya requires less thinner than Mr Color. I thin both with Mr Leveling Thinner. Ben
  19. Thought I’d share this since I haven’t seen many builds of this kit online. The kit dates back to 1987 and Hasegawa reissued it with new decals back in February. Fit and molding were surprisingly good. I was expecting a battle like with their Mercedes C9 and Mazda 767 kits of similar vintage. I used the kit supplied seat belts which worked pretty well. I lowered the suspension about 1 mm. Decals were typical Hasegawa, thick and translucent. Ben
  20. I finished this Tamiya 956 from the ‘84 Le Mans race a few weeks ago. I used Indycals decals and Classic Racing Resins rear wheels. I found out late in the build that the car was actually a short tail 956, but I didn’t want to spend another 50 bucks on a resin conversion and replacement decals, so I’m just living with it. Ben
  21. Still hoping they’ll release a left hand drive version someday. Ben
  22. My experience with him was the same as quite a few other unfortunate souls on various forums. Gravity Spain, on the other hand, are great. They're my go-to if Splash Paints here in the US doesn't have what I need. I've heard good things about Scale Finishes, too. Given the variety of other, more reputable sources of good-quality paint that are available, I see no reason to patronize Gravity USA. Ben
  23. A few of mine. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Revell Ford GT Hasegawa Mazda 767b Fujimi McLaren F1 GTR Fujimi Porsche 917K (I guess this one counts, as it was used as a camera car for the movie, IIRC.) Fujimi Ferrari F40
