Thank you very much Francis it means a lot. Plus there was a personal factor with this car, having worked with it for over two years and then Norm passing this last spring I wanted to get it right.- 63 replies

Pony Express 70s BB/FC ex M/T Pinto
Ian McLaren replied to Ian McLaren's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Well here it is completed, The Pony Express BB/FC. Competion Resins body, Custom Machined Wheels by Jeff Faris, headers courtesy of LPH1320. Engine and drivetrain (bellhousing, Lenco, 9 inch) 3D printed by me. Chassis, seat, wheelie bar scratch built brass. Fuel tank, Oberg filter, aluminum body panels, seat belts ( Futureattractions) and chassis supports scratch built. Decals designed and printed at home. The chassis is built as per the chassis Terry Graham at Airport Welding fabricated that was basicly a copy of the Titanium chassis the car came with. Which by that time was stress cracking so badly as to be unusable. During the period depicted the car was owned by Norm Rousseau (RIP) and driven by both Neil Erasmus and Geoff Carr and me ( listed on the rear panel as Crew) This model has brought back a lot of memories and I find myself smiling each time I walk past it.- 63 replies

While waiting for the clear to fully cure on the Pony Express, I spent some time on the BubbleUp body and paint, recontoured the green to fit with Chucks decals, as well as fixing some body issues and re doing the white areas. I have also applied the first clear coat to give the decals a proper surface to attach to.- 190 replies

Chassis is done, just waiting for the last coat of clear on the body to cure so this one can be wrapped up. I'll probably return to the BubbleUp cars body for a couple of days as its chassis is also pretty much completed- 63 replies

Still progressing, still sitting on the jig but once the radius rods are trimmed to size and instaled it will be free standing. Still lots to do but it's getting closer- 63 replies

At long last the decals have arrived after an epic battle with USPS and Canada post and the battle is not over completely yet. That however is besides the point as the decals have exceeded my every expectation and the project can now be brought to a conclusion. That conclusion will have to wait a bit longer as I wrap up the Pony Express BB/FC which is in the final assembly stage at the moment. The Bubble Up car should be back in progress within the next ten days or so.- 190 replies

Slowly this thing is progressing, it was never a pretty chassis and drivetrain, pretty much devoid of chrome and color, but it was clean and well taken care of. It was very close to the true meaning of form follows function, a true weapons grade racecar.- 63 replies

Progressing on the detail parts, Fuel tank ready to install, had to scratch build this one, no STL File close enough, my welding hasn't gotten any better in 1/16th LOL. The dent in the top of the fuel tank is intentional. I dropped and open end wrench on the real tank between rounds and got my butt thoroughly chewed out. Luckily we won the event and all was mostly forgotton.- 63 replies

Tim i would love to, this build is really out of my comfort zone. I had been planning this build for decades and had set a timeline, but in a moment of madness I figured I would do it for a build off, Even acknologing with a one off brass chassis it was a long shot as far as time goes. This first coats of clear went on the body this morning and the chassis will be painted this week end . There is still a massive amount to finish up, but I may just make the deadline. Never again!- 63 replies

Thank you Francis, They were done for me by Jeff Faris out of Washington. When you can't afford the machines it's nice to know an aerospace machinist. Jeff has supplied me with numerous parts, wheels for three other models, Injector stacks for the Banzai Vega Panel and most notibly the exact Donovan 417 valve covers of my Royal Canadian FED ( the covers alone used up six hours of my time measuring, and remeasuring the real covers). Also the better part of two weeks in machining to get the angles correct and the heights and angles for the four breathers perfect ( they were much taller on this car than what we thought was the norm.- 63 replies

Loving the seat frames, as you said they will add a lot of interest to the interiour. Also I'm very glad to see you back on line.

I am in disbelief at how much detail and effort you have put into just the intake/injector and the mag is simply on another level. You just keep on setting the bar higher and I'm, never, going to believe you again when you say this is going to be a more simplified model to recover from my previous model. But dam it's been fun to watch and learn from this model and I can't wait to see the finished product, even if it takes another 20 pages to get there. LOL

Today is engine day, plug wires injector lines, blower belt idler and some detail painting, this afternoon is fuel pump, barrel valve at start on the throttle linkage. Not much overdrive here (soft tune up) I'll probably change the upper pulley- 63 replies
