  1. You might try "Blender". also free, and maybe overkill as it can do 3D, 3D printing models, movies (cartoons or lifelike) as well as free hand drawing. I am trying to learn it myself but like all tools, you need to learn how to use it. An expensive tablet would probably be needed as "penciling" with a mouse disappoints.

    art ??

That truck is my kind of drawing. Supper. I am releasing a few 50 year old drawings I did while in school. Look for "VERY OLD ART" in Auto Art forum, if you are interested in pencils.
  3. Very nice art. I especially like "Competition coup" and "Junkyard Rods". I am an old computer guy but I never tried to do computer art (Yet?). I am trying to learn Blender. Difficult but incredibly powerful. I am releasing a few 50 year old drawings I did while in school. Look for "VERY OLD ART" in Auto Art forum, if you are interested in pencils Look them up in Wiki ?

    VERY OLD ART

This is a full body dragster. I am guessing I drew this in about 1971 when Don Garlits changed to rear engine dragsters. It is a little hard to see but The Hemi is at a 45 degree angle leaving room for the driver on the left side. I drew the dragster first and then tried to make a 3 view (never finished) to match the original design.
  5. Dizzy or not, it works. Cool. While I am a newbie to the forum (40 or so posts) so I will try my hand at Links. I will send you what I think is a link to my just posted drawing of a 57 T-Bird. Hope you dont mind. I called it Very Old Art. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/discover/content-started/
  6. I must be doing something wrong. 3 out of 4 trys takes me to the same place with or without the /page2 I tried reloading and going back and starting over. Maybe ask another person to check?

    VERY OLD ART

Hi, I thought some of you might want to see some 50 plus years old art. Most of it is not dated as I was doodling or goofing off when I did it. You can assume the art is from 1960 to 1977 when I graduated from Cal Poly. I graduated from HS 1964 and was in the Army 1966 to 1968. My first pic is dated, 1967, so I was either in TX or Germany in the army. Also I spent 7 years getting my 4 year Engineering degree. Perhaps I could have spent the doodle time more wisely, but too late now. Lots of my old drawings are made in class or at workstations. Much of my work was monitoring something so I had lots of free time to kill. I will throw in a doodle page to show you the school work. From a civics class, probably HS or maybe a general ed class at Mt San Antonio Jr College. (2 years there mostly did not transfer well to Cal Poly.) I plan to comeback about once a week or so, to put up a new picture. So if you like what you see, check back. I have a box full of them I found in storage and I have to scan them in, edit for size and contrast and maybe weed out the junk like in the schoolwork pic. Many of them were quite small and I had to enlarged them. Later I will try to show some drawings that led to models. I dont know how that will work as some moderators are picky about the correct forum (Art or WIP say). I maybe can link them, but I am not clear on that. Hope you enjoy...old stuff ?
  8. It is, yes. The point I am clumsily trying to male is that my Corvetruck (for example) is arguably a truck and a car so I should be able to put it in either category (or both). The movement is a waste of time for all. It is debatable and therefore a choice and I dont see it as requiring a debate as it is of little consequence. Just trying to reduce the load on administrators in the end, actually.
  9. Clicking both these urls take me Firefox on W10 to the same place. What gives?
  10. I think I have a simpler idea most people will like and less work for all. Let the trucks go where they will. If it is a truck like vehicle, let it go into any forum that has trucks. If it is a car like vehicle (Camino, etc) let the owner put it in trucks or cars forum. What is the big deal. If they want to put it in Hot Rod trucks, so what if it is not quite like a traditional rod. Why go to such trouble to move them around when it is not a serious placement problem. Where can I put my Corvetruck (soon to be displayed)? Why cant i put it in any reasonable forum (Trucks, Cars, Hotrod trucks, etc)? Take it easy and dont sweat the little stuff. Plenty of bigger problems to go after.
  11. Hi Kevin, I finally finished the 55 you helped me with. Just thought you might remember it. Been a while, eh?
  12. Well, I guess I should finish up this thread and the 55 HS Ride, like I promised a year ago. Uhm, a year and a half almost. How time ... Well, you know the rest. Anyway, I managed to clean up the windshield with Novus 2 fine scratch remover. Better (and easier) than I thought. Here is a better pic of the finished frame. Another shot of the finished interior. Sorry, I still cant claim to be a good photographer. The lead (top) pic in this thread is the best shot I have of the finished body. I repeat it here for convenience. I put the car on display in the living room showcase. Note the Box it is sitting on. Here is a tip from old penny pitcher himself. If you look for small model sized clear display cases, they are VERY expensive. Mostly $15 and up per model. I found clear plastic bowls and storage bins are sometimes just right. Hard to find the clear ones but I got some of these for about a buck at a dollar store. OK, I finished that and decided to start another practice project before I finish the series of 1:1 car models I decided to build. They are siting in the cabinet waiting for me to do a good job and I am procrastinating. Sound familiar? NEXT...

    City scape

Hard to believe this is HO scale. Incredible detail. How long did it take to build?
  14. Look at the top pic on WIP forum for my entry "55 Nomad, a cool HS ride". The pic is blurry and the taping is poor but I think the chrome trim looks pretty good. I used to do the aluminum paint and know how bad that was. Just trying to help.
  15. Sorry Mike, definitely drifting off subject. Back on subject, I have never used BMF but I have used Molotow Chrome Pens (especially the 1mm) and it is amazing. The 2 mm pens can do a bigger panel but are less good for detail. I have tried masking and using the 2 mm tip and got pretty good results. I think that is limited to the quality of the masking (especially the tape, paper tape wont do). Am I on subject now or just being a fool?
  16. Tom, Didnt google archive some or a lot in the past? Saved websites? No more?
  17. Thanks for the answer Peter, I am a relative newbie to the site (27 posts) and I would like to upload some WIP, Drawings and Finished (I have loaded 1 WIP and 1 Final). I have not built models for 50 years or so but got rear ended and need delicate work to retrain so I am taking up models again. I had a big box of leftovers and it is working out well. Because the internet is so ephemeral (as you point out) I was wondering how long it might keep the forum alive. The Magazine looks very shaky in my view (no offense meant, lots of mags are). Since this is their forum, I wondered, do they need to be financially sound to keep the servers of the forum running? Some one mentioned Gregg is managing the forum. I guess I will ask him. Because I do like the place.
  18. I was wondering who manages the forum? Who is paying the rent? Is it MCM? I ask because I want to know how likely it will fold? It seems like a very nice forum with lots of comradery and I would like to invest my time here. Someone must be paying for the ISP and storage and upkeep. Thanks for any thoughts on this.
  19. I just read through this thread (mostly) as I have the 1957 Ford Custom (Revell) that I want to build like my first 1:1 car. So your car will give me inspiration and a bit of model reference. I rebuilt the 312 engine around my senior year in HS (1964 or so) so I do not need much 1:1 reference. My only complaint is the Photbucket ad pasted over every early picture. I wanted to see how you did the distributor/wiring. Looks so good. Your dash is also fantastic. Thank you for taking the time to detail it for us. 74 Malabu drag car on your website is pretty cool. 350 engine pulling wheelies? That still a 350 after all the work you did. Go Finland! PS, only Finland or is there more in Europe? Sorry to be so ignorant. Gary, scalemodelcars.weebly.com
  20. OK, let's give this "In Progress" section a try. I am nearly done with my 2nd model after 50 years of not building models. While I am pretty satisfied with my improving abilities (rehabilitation) after the accident, I have plenty of room to grow. In any case, let's look at the results. !955 Nomad. I started this as another (2nd) test of skills and renewal of technique. It was a lightly prebuilt kit already with only the frame and interior painted and a few parts missing. Thank you Keven for help in that department. I am not finishing it now because I want to decide what final work I want to do and also I need to do some research on polishing the window glass. Looks like no small task. So the model is pretty detailed though needing some repairs and I am not a person to follow directions very closely or use the suggested parts. I cobbled a 2nd exhaust system out of tubing, made some light-duty traction bars (zoom in to see) just like I did in real life on my 1:1 56 sedan back in the day. Although I did not wire or plumb much, I put on battery cables and painted on wiring and some brake lines just to get the feel of modern modeling. Not that I could ever compete with Johnz incredible "Green T Bucket". But we have to aspire to our heroes, right? I will improve. The only other modern technique I tried was Molotow Chrome markers. Fantastic, but very expensive. The engine is aimed to be a 1957 Corvette Fuel injected 283 drop-in. Made from many kits. Chrome wheels round out the period motif. This 1:1 could have been built in late 1957 to well past my high school graduation of 1964. I would have loved to have this car in HS. Note the dashboard. It was partly painted so I can't take full credit but looks very good from a distance. Zoom in on all the pictures to see the sloppy workmanship and jiggly painting. At least a definite improvement to my just published "1st" car, the "61 Ranchero, 1st after 50". -- Thanks for looking, Gary My Website is scalemodelcars.weebly.com
  21. I like the scribe of the doors and trunk. Makes them look like they open. In the distant past I have used the exacto to open several doors. Could not use fine saw as I kept scratching the sides. Also, Fun Fact. I think I read the W block (such as 409) were made with 427 cu ins. Only a few were produced and were called 427W, I think. So you could put 427 emblems. Or maybe not... ?
  22. To PappyD340 and afx; The color is Grabber Orange, I think it is a Ford color. Thanks for the complements.
  23. Thats my choice too. The other 2 are for looks as they would be so nose heave as to just burn off the rear tires. Fun Fact: I understand that is lots of fun in Australia. Clouds of tire smoke. Or so I read. Thanks, Gary
  24. Thanks Tom. Must be a trend.
  25. There are a lot of nice models here and I am a little embarrassed to show mine. In my defense, I have not built a model in 50 years or so. The reason for starting again is interesting or at least unusual. I got rear ended a few years ago and went from bed ridden to final check out of rehab. They told me to recover more dexterity and strength I had to do more exorcise and fine delicate work on my own. So I do the exorcise 1 hour a day to cover that and decided to dig out my old box of unfinished models stored away. This is my first finished model. The level is about what I did at 13 (in 1959 !) You can see more and read more (including how us dinosaurs built models) on my website: scalemodelcars.weebly.com Anyway, I chose this kit from my brothers stock as a simple and dumbed down starter. 1961 Falcon Ranchero. When I say it is finished, I mean it is as done as I want at this time. I have 3 engines made to drop in depending on mood. Mild to wild. the 289 Cobra would be a nice ride back in the 70's. The 427 wedge would have been a powerful street wagon (if a little nose heavy). Then there is the SOHC for the wild show off engine. Take your choice. If you zoom in you can see some interesting details and lots of sloppy work but I am very satisfied with my improvement over the months of work. Later on I will show some old unfinished models from the past and maybe some drawings too. I will continue to build as I have a large supply of kits (started and new) including all the real cars I have had that I dearly miss now (I do have a couple still). More on my website for those interested.
