I'm looking for contest pics that are stored online somewhere (like fotki) that I may browse. Reason being, I'm on a nostalgia kick lately. I'm trying to recreate some of my past builds that have been lost to time. I used to frequent contests throughout Kentucky from about 1996 to 2006. Someone (hopefully) took pics. I've found a few on fotki, but most of them were blurry when clicked upon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice build. I have several of those kits waiting.

Thanks! The paint is Testors metallic blue (I forget which one) over Tamiya aluminum.

Awesome build. I like it a lot in red. Most people do them in blue or white.

Thanks. I appreciate your help.

Just a few I've built in the last 6 years. In order: MPC 74 Cuda pro street MPC 80 Volare MPC 74 Charger "Supercharger" MPC 75/76 Dart Amt 80 Plymouth Horizon TC3

That's not a typo. This one began as a Revell/Monogram 71 GTX, and was built that way. However, it was damaged when I moved (tire marks in paint, missing parts) so I fixed it with what I had on hand. I couldn't part it out (like so many others) as its the first kit my wife bought for me. I contoured the nose to fit a 71 Charger grill. It has a hood somewhere, but I'm not done building a scoop yet.

When I was a teen, I built the then brand new Amt 93 Ranger. I'd like to try my hand at it again, so off to ebay I went... Anyway, I'm seeing several 95s in Coke packaging. Does this version have the optional parts that the earlier release had? Mainly the custom wheels? Thanks!

Changing Times, Changing Tastes

Try finding anything for one of these in a junkyard. Here locally about a year ago, a junkyard got one in. They wanted $250 for a tailgate that was badly dented and slightly rusty. -
Nice! I like it

Cool. I might get one for nostalgia. I bought that kit new when I was 9. I remember painting it with some really hot aerosol that was on discount. You could grate cheese on that paintjob lol

Any trouble with the AMT '66 Nova??
Rbray47 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I haven't built a stock one, but I use a lot of the pro street Novas as donors. There's a lot of flash and raised ejector pin bumps. The chassis alone takes forever (it so it seems) to clean up. -

Nice build! -
Nice build. As for the year, it looks like a 73 or 74.

The last of my finished 78/79 Firestone kits. I have a few more planned. This one was converted the same way as the 78 long bed. I added the two tone chrome trim because I originally planned on a blue/white paint scheme, but it just didnt happen (it's been a few years, cant remember why lol)

I have to buy this when it becomes available. Supernatural is my wife's favorite show and she wants their car in the display case. I'll probably end up with two or three so I can put the wheels on some future pickup builds.

Thanks! I used Testors Fifties Aqua, but Ford called it Light Jade. I think 80 or so was the last year it was offered. The 1:1 had a dark green interior with fake woodgrain that didnt really match the rest of the truck. -

It wasn't too bad. About the same process as building an altered wheelbase drag car, cut out the wheel opening and move it forward. Make sure you have a good side profile pic before cutting. The hardest part is getting both sides to match, and fortunately, Amt molded the bedsides separately. Depending on year, the gas cap will have to be removed and a door scribed in its place. I also have one converted to swb. -
Kit Manufacturers Quality Control Or Lack Of It
Rbray47 replied to VW93's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Speaking of Revell quality... I bought their 62 Impala about 4 or 5 years ago. The body was so badly warped that when placed on a flat surface, one fender was about an inch (not a 1/25 inch either) higher than the other one. Their customer service, or lack of, wasn't helpful. They wanted me to ship them the entire kit on my dime, so they could evaluate whether or not it warranted a replacement body shell. I emailed pics, that should have been enough proof. I ended up parting it out and tossing the body. -
Biggest pet peeves on builds.

I usually cant get the lower radiator hoses attached. I either forget about then until it's too late, or I cant get them lined up correctly. Sometimes (if I remember) I use flexible tubing with stiff wire inside. -

No progress pics on this phone. I built it about 5 years ago. -

Thanks! The grill conversion was fairly easy. I dug through my parts box until I found a pair of round headlights that looked to be the appropriate size. 30s-40s vehicles usually have decent ones. Next I drilled out the molded-in square lights to fit the new round set, then paint the bezels black.
