I'd love to see more of that catalog (and others, too lol) -
AMT 81 Toyota Truck 4X4
Rbray47 replied to Adecoste's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice start! My favorite brand of pickups. My dad bought a new 82 in that color. He kept it about a year and gave it to my brother, who drove it until all of the other SoCal drivers destroyed it. -
What’s your most and least favourite task?

Just remembered, I've spent more time than I care to gluing door mirrors back on. From now on, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to drill and pin them in place. -

I hate installing windows. Everything else is fine. -
Wow, that looks awesome.

Ever buy kits...just to "Pirate" parts?
Rbray47 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Every time Ollie's gets kits in stock. They rarely get anything I'm interested in building. Bought a couple each of the 05 300, 72 Challengers, and 64 Dodge 330s. Hopefully I'll be able to combine one of the 300s with the Challengers. -
Actually, I dont remember. I *think* I may have filed the rear mount (above the engine) down a bit. It's been over a year so I may be wrong.

Growing up in eastern Kentucky, I saw a lot of log trucks. Many were privateers or belonged to small family operations. Very few were modern or safe. My uncle always had a couple of really nice GMC Generals, which I hope to model some day. But, other family members had less expensive setups. I remember seeing several farm trucks with steel poles welded on and put to work. This build wasn't really planned as a log truck (much like the trucks from my childhood) But my wife brought this L700 kit home from Ollie's one day, and it was so ugly I had to build it. I stretched the frame a bit, and constructed everything behind the cab from plastic and aluminum tubing and angles. The headache rack mesh came from an old Fram air filter. My cat stole one of the kits tires, so I swapped them out for a set from Moebius (since completion I've found where he stashed it) This truck really doesn't represent those old, beat to death, examples since I had to replace the wheels. But, once I get the originals painted and mounted, I'll weather everything and add some cargo.

I'd be in for one of those Rabbits. Had one years ago, fairly decent kit.

I like where this is going.

Biggest pet peeves on builds.

My Jeep has a pressure switch under the seat. It got unplugged on day one. -
No pics yet, but I just watched Furt Road again, so I'll probably have some progress later.

1940 Ford Pickup Street Rod
Rbray47 replied to jdhog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Good start. I've had 4 or 5 over the years. The only one I completed (that came out right) was the older issue molded in yellow. I polished the plastic and left it yellow. The old guy who bought it refused to believe it wasn't the red one with paint applied. -
Yep. 300+ hp Aurora V8s.

Thanks, guys. I ran into a bit of a snag. My truck was Electric Red. I dont know which hobby spray would be a match for it. Plus, I haven't been successful with the oil pan. Also, the kit has bucket seats with a center console. I'll have to figure out how to remove it from the kits bucket. Mine had the center cushion thing that folded up and down. -
Oooh... I like that a lot. I have one somewhere. It's my oldest surviving build.

Testors metalflake spray bombs
Rbray47 replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are they really the same? Or did they just bring back the names? I ask because after seeing this thread, I googled 'Testor's Jade Green Metal Flake' and on each image the caps looked like a medium green instead of dark like it used to be. When I was a kid, that was my favorite color by them. I painted dozens of cars with it. -
This kit arrived yesterday from ebay. The original plan is to build a replica of the truck I once owned. Mine however, had the 2.3 engine. So far, I've stripped the chrome from the wheels, painted them Tamiya gloss aluminum, and mocked up the chassis. A couple of weeks ago, I started to build a 2.3 to go in it. Mostly going from memory, I think I'm getting pretty close. If anyone has any critiques, please let me know as I'd like to get it correct as possible. I started with the block from a glue bomb Courier. The coil packs, as well as the upper and lower intake are completely scratchbuilt. The exhaust manifold is a modified junk box item. The valve cover started as a bbc piece that was shortened and smoothed out. The oil pan will not work. I haven't figured that one out yet, but I'm working on it. All of the pulleys and accessories came from the parts box, not sure what they came from. They're all attached accept the idlers. The belt will be masking tape. My truck didnt have yellow plug wires, but that's all I have. Routing all 8 was a chore.

Thanks for the compliments. @espo I actually painted it on my truck's tailgate.
