  1. Thanks! I was going to foil out like the rest, but I decided to be cheap lol
  2. Well it's done, or mostly. Still need to add the rear bumper guards. I also forgot to give the wheels a black wash around the lugs. Not the easiest kit I've built, or my best effort, but the wife is happy. It will go in it's own display case likely to never to be taken out, so some of my boo-boos (like glue on the windshield that I painted over with black to hide) wont be noticed. I didnt spend much time under hood since it will never be opened. Also, the Molotow around the wheel openings looks horrible in the pics, but in person it's looks good. Wierd.
  3. Interesting kit. I saw one on the shelf at a hobby shop last week. I briefly contemplated buying it and putting some nice offroad wheels on it, like from the Revell Wrangler kit. Heck, if it's still there in a couple of weeks, I just might.
  4. Personally, I think it looks dumb, but obviously those who make these decisions know (hopefully) more about their customers than I ever will. Also, I wouldn't turn down a Coke themed kit if the underlying subject interests me. However, I usually dont give them a second glance.
  5. I'm still slowly plugging away at it. I gotta say, R2 really phoned this one in. Nothing fits correctly. Maybe I got a lemon, who knows? Today I'm doing the trim.
  6. That's...really cool.
  7. Been busy with life, but still managed some progress. The interior is mostly done. I painted it with Tamiya semi gloss black and Rustoleum flat khaki. I may redo the carpet in a slightly darker shade as I'm not happy with it being khaki with dark brown overspray. Also, my wife (who wanted this car bad) has decided she wants it inside of a wall display with a 1/25 paper Sam and Dean standing beside it. What that means is that I wasted a lot of time correcting things that will likely never be seen. Had I known, I wouldn't have done and engine/trans swap. The TH/400 is shorter overall than the 4 speed, so instead of fixing the driveshaft, I cheated and added about 1/8" of tubing to the tail shaft. On my kit, the hood wouldn't shut all the way. I didnt test fit before painting, either. I ended up grinding the top of the core support until the hood sat flush. I noticed in the built examples from here and Facebook that the car rides high in the front. Dean's car doesn't. I cut the wheel stubs off of the spindles and remounted them to drop it some, and while I was at it I bent the too-wide tie rod until the wheels were turned.
  8. Looks really good. I dont have one finished yet. I'm doing the first one as the TV car. The second one will get combined with a 93 Corvette I just picked up.
  9. Looks great. I've known about this kit, but never gave it much thought. What color yellow did you use? My Hilux was almost the same shade.
  10. I was early for a family engagement yesterday. Stopped off to kill some time. Yep, those are the prices I paid.
  11. I'll be buying another one just for the wheels, as they'd look good on a 90s ranger or s10. Right now I'm building the TV car, but the next one end up as beater with a hopped up engine.
  12. Dang, that looks good.
  13. Revell 64 Impala has a power glide, if I'm remembering correctly.
  14. I dont know...if a woman were to post that...I might be tempted to visualize it lol
  15. I was waiting for someone to do a WIP thread on this kit, but I'm impatient, so here goes... My wife is a huge fan of the show, and like an idiot, I told her about this kit when it was first announced. She's been after me ever since to get one and build it. Ofcourse, she wants it as accurate as possible. I started by smoothing out the body (it had a few scratches and gouges, I guess AMT's chicom workers weren't happy about getting back to the factory) I've already laid down some Testors black lacquer. Next I filled in the mounting hole for the console since obviously this car wont have one, and the bench seat only covers the rear mounting hole. I also filled in the rear seat speaker and rounded the edges of the bottom cushion. I wont correct the pattern to match the front, she wont notice hehe. Last pic shows the powerplant swap with the Amt 70 Monte Carlo. The 454/TH400 seems to fit fine. I haven't messed with the exhaust or driveshaft, so I'll worry about that after the rest of the chassis is painted and assembled. Also, I'll be coloring the valve covers with a Molotow pen. The engine as you see it is how I pulled it from the Monte kit (previously started) I'm not going to get too carried away with detailing, aside from fixing the obvious errors.
  16. I dont remember any issues with mine, but since I was dealing with brittle plastic that didnt want to take glue, I could've forgotten.
  17. Ooh...my wife is gonna hate that. She bought ours from ebay at nearly $40 shipped. Side note: who's going to be the first to do a WIP thread?
  18. My kit arrived today. The body has several scratches and gouges on it. The long one across the roof sanded away without much effort. The one on the front passenger door goes a little deeper and goes through the side trim. It will have to have filler.
  19. I had a 77 Caprice and Impala 2 dr. They were tied for the 2nd most comfortable cars I've owned (first was a 77 LTD 2 dr)
  20. I love that look, and yours look awesome. Hmmm...now I need to plan a late 80s pastel build.
  21. You're correct. The 68 I learned in belonged to my brother. His daily drivers vary, but his 2nd vehicle is almost always a 68 Impala, Belair, or Biscayne. His preference probably goes back to when dad bought a 68 impala new. I'm also probably in the tiny minority here who doesn't like 55-56 Chevies. 57s are fine, but I think the previous 2 model years were unattractive.
  22. I was taught to drive in a 68. 1968 redeemed and refined the homely 67 and gave it the proper shape and amount of taillights lol
  23. I assume you work on/around the show? You probably have loads of info about the cars, not just the engines used. I like the show at times (far from love it) but it's just about my wife's favorite show, and she wants me to build the car as close to accurate as possible. Personally, I think 67 was the ugliest year Impala of them all, but we all do things for our wives we wouldn't normally do. I'd rather have Dean's 1911 than his car lol
  24. I remember one episode where the hood was up. The engine was clearly a big block. However, I also remember a different episode where Dean "went back in time" and part of that episode included talking his own father into buying the car. One of his selling points was that the car had a "327 4bbl". Revell's 64 Impala has a fairly good 327/PG. The early episodes also had the car equipped with steelies and dog dish caps. So, if one were to build the kit accurate to the show, there are still plenty of options.
  25. The 396/th400 sounds like a good swap, I might try that when I get my kit. Either that, or the 454/th400 from the 70 monte carlo.
